why i quit playing elite.

well not that anyone cares. but yea im done with this game. the next update i waited a year for has completely trashed the game for me. i dreamed big lol hoping to move my carrier across the galaxy. grinding out mats so i can power the ships fsd wouldn't be so bad, but grinding the 1 billion carrier upkeep per week is really horrible. that means a solo player like be would never be able to own one. i would have had to dedicate all my time just to keep the damn ship a float. i made over 800m once when i filled my whole type 9 with ltd's but that took me 14 hours of straight mining and by the end of it i wanted to shoot myself in the face. I said it as i was cashing in "ill never do that again" LOL . with the way carriers are going to be set up its clear to me that there meant for a squadron and not for solo players. honestly i went from playing everyday for a year or 2 to just playing once a month. so its a pretty easy choice to just uninstall. once i bought every ship and fully engineered them i started exploring the center of the galaxy. but even that got way way too boring more then anything. every system looks exactly the same just with a different color painted on them. for some people thats good enough , new color schemes on planets is all they need. but i cant, there is a huge lack of just about everything that happens in space on a regular basis. the constant boringness and lack of space phenomenon makes it way to unrealistic at times. well have fun . ill try not to let the hatch hit me in the on the way out.
I'm curious to know after playing the game as long as you have and ascertaining all the things you've accomplished. Just how much game should a game developer provide for the cost or price of a game. I'll assume you paid about 60.00 U.S. dollars, and have at least a 1,000 hours judging by what you've ascertained. Doing the math, that works out to be only 0.06 cents an hour. Less if you've played longer.

I understand burn out, even with my level of OCD (Obsessive–compulsive disorder) I get burned out and stop playing ED for a month or more. but after 60.00 dollars and 3 years in which I've played for over 6,500 hours which equates to 6 to 8 hours a day, six days a week. Thus making my investment only 0.01 cent per hour. If Fdev pull the plug today, I've more than got my money's worth.

Never say Never, take a break, even if it's a year or longer. Then come back, we'll all be waiting.

I earn about $42 an hour so I guess I should have better things to do.
Basically a game that is still "developing" after this amount time should get better, it isn't as far as I am concerned.
How far have graphics cards advanced in this time? yet we still have cartoon images of characters.
The original game was all on ONE floppy drive, 1.44meg! this game won't run unless you are online even in solo mode.
If you want a challenge get a BBC micro simulator and play the original.
Anyway, I've said my piece and played my time. Like COD 1 online I'm done with Elite Trading sim.

I should start blocking forum griefers the way I block griefers in the game. It would make for a much better experience.

It's called free speech mate if you remove all the negative you are just sitting in an echo chamber listening to yourself.
There's a difference between negative feedback and trolling. Ask anyone, I've given TONS of negative feedback. I have no issue with people who like the game but dislike various features of said game, even when I disagree with them. People who clearly hate the game, however, bring nothing to the discussion. Even in countries with free speech, hecklers are often removed from civil discourse so that the discourse can continue.

Look up the definition of "forum" mate.
It takes two sides a positive and a negative.
Get over yourself and go play.
You have 17,000 messages I have probably less than 50, I spend more time playing than posting on the forum. Yet you think I hate the game, very observant, not.
I was probably playing Elite before your dad was born, but hey what do I know.

personally I still occasionally play games like space invaders, asteroids etc
elite will still be here for you o7
playing too much of just one thing is ok but variety is the spice of life, not that the mortally challenged are concerned!

IMO fleet carriers in this game are a bust. Not surprising, given what I've seen introduced in the last 3 years.

So now I'm waiting for the upcoming super carriers in DCS. I suspect I'll enjoy those much more.

Dad to son, who drives a beat up old Ford Fiesta: " Son, I've bought you a beautiful new blue BMW for your birthday"
Son: "Dad, I want a red one"
Dad: "Sorry, I can't cancel it. It's waiting in the showroom for you. Don't you want to try it out to see how well it goes and what gadgets it has in it"
Son: "I don't want a blue car. I've already driven to the supermarket, the coast and another country. I've played at drag racing with my mates. I've played at baiting the police and been fined several times. I even managed to run over an old lady. I can't think of anything new to do with my car. If I can't have a red BMW, I'm not going to drive anymore."

How did you know I had a red BMW?
