["Journalism"] Fleet carriers in BETA will cost 5Billion & developers WILL NOT provide extra credits

Greetings everyone, it's your ever lovable dead-horse beating latvian bringing you NEWS!

After having concerns during developer stream on Fleet Carrier "reveal" I noticed something in this particular segment ~52mins

I got a worry that for beta they will not give you the carrier itself OR extra credits to buy one SO I followed it up and investigated. I contacted Stephen myself and asked directly

"Hello. I would require 1 piece of clarification about beta: Will you, developers, provide players with funds to acquire fleet carriers for the beta?"

Answer given to this was following

"Hey Yamiks, Developers will not provide addition funds to players to purchase Fleet Carriers in the beta. "

Of course this being Yamiks, I asked for a little clarification on WHY this is going to be a thin. And answer

"Yes you can say that the current plan is that fleet Carriers will cost 5bn in the beta, but this may change..."

"We need people to test owning, and being guests at Fleet Carrier. The current plan is to have people who have the funds to purchase them to get them like they would in the live game, so we can manage the feedback and the bugs. Just because you can't own one doesn't mean you can't participate, guests on Fleet Carriers are just as important as the owners for these tests"

Now this is what I gathered and MASSIVE thanks to out CM Stephen Benedetti for providing not only info , but a speedy response too!

As for information...well....I mean....wow!

I have to figure...
If EVERYONE had a carrier...why would anyone visit anyone elses?
Wouldn't be much of a beta if it didn't represent the reality of what will be in the live game....surely?
That being said, didn't FDev say there would be two FC betas?
I could get behind the idea of one 'realistic' test, and one 'stress test'.
But yeah - I guess that's the reason - the live game simply won't have tens of thousands of carriers, and FDev want to encourage Cmdr's to visit other Cmdr's carriers.
...I could be wrong of course! (FDev is a strange beast!)

They need people testing as guests instead of owners.
Imagine my surprise that it seems to be a thing considering how many (self admitted people on the forums at least) don't have the credits to actually buy one.
Oh well, DON'T FORGET TO ADD CAPS LOCK TO SHOW HOW SERIOUS THIS IS

Why not have two stages to the Beta. 1st Stage only some people can afford an FC. Second stage, Frontier lower the FC cost allowing more people to buy.
I seem to recal a previous beta that did something like this. Two Stages.

But hey... A shame, i was looking forward to trying out the various mechanics of FC ownership.

Interesting..

Trying to judge if landing at a Fleet Carrier is going to be worth the effort of downloading the Beta - I guess?.. Have to admit I kinda assumed they'd lower the entry cost to gather more opinions and testing data. Oh well. By the time I've got enough credits to actually afford one I wonder how they will have changed :D

Credit to OP for eliciting that response. It makes sense, I suppose, otherwise the beta would be a bit of a FC-fest with everyone swanning around in the FCs and nobody properly testing the "don't have but will use" facilities.

Agreed, and maybe they will allow more to be tested. That too would make sense after the initial beta.

I'm okay with not being able to try out FCs now. I'll watch the livestreams of all you rich YouTubers as you test yours out. This will leave me something to look forward to later in the year if I decide I actually want a fleet carrier for myself. Otherwise it's kinda like opening your Christmas present in November 🤷

On one hand yeah it’s poopy everyone won’t be able to give them to test drive. On the other I understand they want to see how the servers react to the realistic number of FC there will be.
Thing is - it won't be realistic. Firstly the number of people who participate in beta is a tiny percentage of the player base. Secondly, the proportion of players in beta with a fleet carrier is likely to be extremely high (i.e. those who can afford a FC may well want to try the beta to see what they're like (and people will liquidate their assets in beta to get one where they wouldn't in real game), whereas many potential beta players (like myself) who can't afford one probably won't bother with it). So you're going to end up with this really scewed distribution of FC owners in the beta. God help us if Frontier use that for any actual game balancing.

So it begins...

Don't forget that if you're not too far off, you can sell some of your ships to raise cash. The beta is in a "parallel universe", you will still have those ships on your main account.

I barely have 5 billion now, so I will need more for the various upgrades.
