News Community Update (01/05)

I can all but guarantee that if FD would announce a Planet Zoo DLC was delayed their community would not start raving about individuals selling and buying stock or declaring a honest-to-god pandemic is a 'convenient excuse' for a company to sell a product later than intended.

With Elite Dangerous being a sci-fi space sim game, it unfortunately attracts a number of weirdos with personality complexes.

Nope, I assume you mean macOS, as I'm still playing ED (now and then) on my Mac.

The rather clumsy point is that if Frontier doesn't see a future on a platform, support may be withdrawn (regardless of whether doom or otherwise is being predicted).
Yep a mate of mine plays ED on a Mac using a remote server. (y)

What a crap way to announce the delay. Thread title "Community Update ..." means nowt - for goodness sake someone get on a communications course.

Yeah what a horrible heading to update the community.

"20 times complete noobs failed in PVP. No 6 will surprise you." There fixed it for them. Now with extra clickbait.

Understandable. Thank you for the update.

I think what probably the majority of the community would appreciate is a feature roadmap, of course with the caveat that all features are subject to change or removal at any time.

There would be complaints of course, about desired features not being included, and included features not being designed as desired, or unwanted changes to declared features, or included features being cancelled, or the roadmap not being detailed enough, and any number of other things. Then again, there is constant complaint about there not being enough communication about the future of the game, so given that people will complain anyway, if there’s a published roadmap, then even fans of the game who aren’t happy about the direction being taken will still be able to say “at least Frontier communicates and informs their player base”, and that will be to the company’s credit, and improve its reputation.

Dropping VR would be the only way for FD to lose me as a player, it is the only thing that is a possible concern to me.

Same. I enjoy the game as it is, despite having many gripes like any other player, but I still see anything added as a bonus, and that I’ve already gotten more than my money’s worth.

However, if VR support is removed, I don’t think I’ll be able to go back to pancake view and enjoy it. It won’t be a rage quit or anything like that, I simply won’t have much desire to log in and play.

The only way I could mitigate that would be to spend a good deal of money and time on a big three screen or projector setup with a custom cockpit and head movement tracking, which I most likely would not do. I’d just move on to another game.

Anyone who is complaining about a delay caused by a global pandemic that has killed untold thousands needs a damn reality check. Elite Dangerous is real and you guys are so lucky that our online games are even running at all.
