Yes there are lots of us female players in Elite - I know of several just in my own squadron (Hutton Truckers)! I have been playing since Alpha after my husband alerted me to the Kickstarter. Although I never played the original game in 1984, I often watched while he played so was very excited about the prospect of an updated online version. We both backed the game, starting out fairly slowly but gradually increasing the pledges and ending up at Alpha level.
That is so goddamn cool! Would love to hear your opinion about the game's progression since Alpha, and what you think about the space legs update (if rumours are true etc), I've been meaning to ask someone who was around since the beginning for their thoughts for a few weeks.
Glad we've came t an accord... Even if that accord is somehow, befittingly, mocking me. IRL I am a somewhat barrel-chested "beardy bloke" who can pick up most individuals and carry them on my shoulder, raised by a very stict mother, to traditional values. I'm the sort of dude who will hold a door open for a woman in a shopping mall, and stop and help a woman change a wheel on her car... And get "in the face" of anyone whos being a jerk.
The last time I used "alpha male" as an adjective to describe myself on here, some keyboard warrior cracked out a game of thrones meme about "a true alpha does not describe himself as an alpha", to which I thought "vey good, but I could probably break you like a twig over my left knee, but that was well delivered." Somewhow the idea of you laughing at that term wrankles less than the generation of a meme about it.
Anyways, I've torched my flying time on this thread, so its now way past "bed time" in my country, so its time for me to say "noot noot".
Noot noot CMDR.
P.s. I used to teach MMA and while normally I like to poke fun at non-fighting men saying they're amazingly tough online, I must give you credit as barrel-chested men were generally the hardest for me to fight (but not to teach! Always had good experience with big polite boys who accepted they could learn something from me). Moving faster while being stable and keeping good form and technique will win you a lot of fights, but it didn't do me much good against someone literally three times my weight when I tried a front defensive kick/push kick. Rude awakening that I really had to pay attention to the whole "unarmoured points" thing and getting out of the way against certain opponents, no matter how well I was planted. That and grappling with them sucked because while of course my core is stronger than even a big man's arm and no one has muscle or fat protecting their carotid (can even make it easier, skinny necks are hard to correctly place and set on for me), it never feels good having to rely on rules or pain to protect you from them literally picking you up while you're torquing their elbow. Or more annoying for them, flopping on you. Not skillfully applying pressure, pushing off with toes or anything, literal flopping. It's worst for them because they can't learn anything at all from it, it's okay-ish for me because at least I can practice getting out from pressure and choking from a compromised position. But I digress. Feel good about your body type because it is actually a bit tougher than average

you will need to train if you want to reliably win actual fights though. Just please never call yourself a chivalrous alpha male again you made ME blush from embarassment and I'm not even you
I was planning to wait a few months before daring to ask if there were other LGBT CMDRs but seeing as you brought it up, hell yeah it does!
Unless you mean "does gay count as being a woman?" because in that case uhh, that one's on you to decide, not me
I've finished wading through this thread like an asthmatic ant with some heavy shopping &...well, it
started rather badly, tailed off towards the middle & the less said about the end, the better! (Let's play "Spot The Plagiarism")
'Second time I've been very surprised today, after reading this headline...
Who cares?! Man, woman, hermaphrodite - is that all of the options? I don't want to offend anyone - is all but irrelevant to flying a spaceship with other sad dorks who also have nothing else to occupy their empty days & nights until they shuffle off this mortal coil. One thing is for sure, on our death beds we'll have no regrets that we've wasted our lives, right?!
...RIGHT?
...
Hello??
I'm glad you don't want to offend anyone

towards that end, you should know that the word hermaphrodite is no longer used to refer to human beings, and you're probably thinking of intersex people. They're a broad spectrum of people though, so not everything you may associate with the word hermaphrodite is applicable to intersex people. Feel free to ask me if you'd like to understand more!
My daughter (19) plays, but almost all in VR, in solo, and doesn't come onto the forums or have a gendered cmdr name.
Nice, I really want to start playing in VR at some point. It would just involve a lot of steps, like transferring my account to PC (also lets me get a good HOTAS so net positive), upgrading my partner's PC hardware to be VR capable, and buying a VR headset. Those things are expensive and I'd want value for money (so something like a Quest), but I've heard the Oculus Link software isn't that great for games with text so atm I'm thinking of holding out for the Quest 2/Del Mar headsets whenever that launches. I'm okay to wait, just gives me more time to save up so it can be something I'll enjoy. What's your daughter's VR setup like?
