this stuttering thing?

brand new would love to play buy my word it is annoying. ive been reading threads for 4 5 years ago saying it was happening then.

please say there is a fix to this.

if not can one get their money back?

This has come and gone a few times but I'm not aware it's a games issue at the moment. IIRC sometimes it's PC set up issue. I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me will be along shortly with advice :)

Have you raised a ticket? Support are excellent and may have some advice.

There can be many factors that cause stuttering in game.

Your PC is a major factor, as is what's running on it, where the game is installed, the quality of your internet connection, internet traffic, background processes, number of players in your session, all of the previous on their side.

How full the servers are on that day, your position in the world (players across the pond may experience stutter due to lag).

Graphics settings, air flow, cleanliness of your system, overheating.

The day of the week can be a factor too, weekends tend to have higher server traffic than week days for example

On laptops whether it is plugged in or not (trying to game on battery means that not only are you limiting the processor to its base clock speed your laptop will also prefer to use the Intel on board graphics as opposed to any other solution, causing massive stutter).

Etc etc, that list is not exhaustive but one or more may apply to you.

I agree with all of the above and am sure that isn't the game at fault as I have played on some quite low end computers and not had any issues with ovar 3000 hours in game.

Lenovo desktop with Nvida 1050, Intel i5-7400 cpu @ 300ghz, 16 gb ram, 64 bit operating system. So as you can see not the highest spec.
It will also run VR with no problem

Please quote system specs, how you are playing, solo, multiplayer. What your isp connection is performance wise. Remember this is peer to peer so upload and download speed is important.

I have a brand new Windows 10 1909 (all drivers up to date) PC, Asus Rog Strix X570-F Gaming Mobo, Corsair 750W Gold PSU, Ryzen 5 3600X, Corsair H60 Hydro CPU Cooler, RTX 2070 Super GPU, 32Gb Corsair 3200Mhz RAM, 2 x 1Tb Samsung 970 EVO Plus M.2 PCIe NVMe Drives, and a MSI Optix MAG271CQR 144hz Curved Monitor. All other Games are really smooth no stuttering or lag at all, but not Elite Dangerous and nothing within Elite Dangerous is set to Ultra and I'm still getting occasional stuttering and lag, I have tried every setting possible evening lowering graphics from 1440p to 1080p I've tried using ED Profiler, nothing seems to work, this must be something to do with Frontiers coding, as, like I said every other game is smooth as silk, Assassins Creed (all of them) Tomb Raider (all of them) etc. Elite Dangerous is still playable, but soooo frustrating.

What stuttering? The main time it is noticeable for me is on the odd occasion coming out of a hyperspace jump (and it was particularly noticeable last night, as it happens). I think I may have noticed similar on other transitions (e.g. during glide down to a planet), but general gameplay is fine for me.

Not going to claim to get no stuttering, but Elite: Dangerous is generally quite smooth for me at 4k with well past 'ultra' settings on my OCed i7-5820K and GTX 1080Ti.

If you want something quantifiable, this is a plot of about 80k frames (a twelve minute mix of stations, SC, and RES combat, with a hyperspace jump thrown in for good measure) recorded with NVIDIA's Frameview, red spikes showing game engine latency in issuing presents:

It amounts to a handful of momentary stutters when switching instances and loading assets, most of them barely perceptible. The one big spike is jumping to another system.

Plenty of other people do get stutters, but pinning down their issues to any specific problems is often difficult. Anyway, the game is certainly capable of running relatively smoothly.

I have a new specced pc too and only time I see it is in combat. Worse place to experience it. Split second of stutter the screen goes all on acid like. Then it's fine. Think it's either sheer load in a high cz or isp/router related or perhaps Vr.

For those blaming ED, I have some news for you.. I've run it on a Pentium 3260, with 4gb of ram and a Radeon R7360.. I now run it on a R5 3600 (all@4.2) wit h32gb of ram and a 8gb rx580. Both would run it stutter free at appropriate settings.. Both would exhibit stutter when my uplink bandwidth tanked.. No ability to upload cause lag and stuttering - it's not the damn game code - but it's never an issue at your end, right?

Sometimes I accidently hit eco-mode on my laptop, the first time it happened took me a while to figure it out, now whenever it suddenly starts stuttering that's the first thing I check, and it's always that.

well the stuttering thing i had was the game would stop for less than a second, like it dropped a frame or two. so after some reading around someone mentioned the nvidia overlay when i start a game..take screenshots, stream with it and a few other options. played a few hours since then and it seemed to stop so.

I don't think it's platform/machine specific. I am on XBOX ONE S and get a 1 second pause jumping into hyperspace to another system in and around Sag A*, but moving away it seems do diminsh to none existant the farther I move away. IMO it's somthing to do with the server end, but I don't know, I'm no expert.

That's the spirit OP!
Don't give up - the problem is on your end, but I'm sure you can figure it out and nail it down!
Do a restart - close everything except Elite - load stuff incrementally, until you notice an impact on Elite.....?
Elite is worth it imho....but we're probably a bias bunch here! 😉

Welcome to the Forums! (however fleeting )
....And i hope Welcome to the game too! o7

Been a while since my CMDR was anywhere near Sag A*, but higher star density, nebulae, and galaxy map settings can have a significant impact on hyperspace load times.

was getting a stutter seemed only once in awhile. i timed it, was exactly every 15 minutes. had setting to turn off monitor after 15 minutes. i use controller so was not moving the mouse, so computer tried to turn off screen. changed setting to NEVER turn off screen and no more stuttering.
