I’ve only had one kid ;-) but I guess that’s still R=1
Edit: or actually R=0.5? if neither of us have any more
For the record I don't consider overpopulation a "problem" that needs a solution. I certainly don't look at parents who choose to have 2-4 kids as a negative, assuming that they're being good parents. Of course my criteria as to what constitutes a good parent is pretty darn strict.

All these people concerned about overpopulation, yet nobody is willing to do anything about it as an individual.

Actually Jason, My wife and I have NO kids. so you're VERY much wrong YET again.

Do you know what, try engaging your brain before spouting utter nonsense once in a while ok?

I was 100% certain that you didn't, Leper. It's my experience that when people talk about being very concerned about "over population" they also think something should be done about it...but never quite specify what this would be and certainly never include themselves in that equation.

Huh. Just scanned the thread to see what's been happening in my five week absence and it looks like all the dissenting opinions have mostly disappeared. What a nice little echo chamber it's become:)

What happened to the "It's just a flu'" and "It will go away in April" arguments of yours, btw ?

They have morphed to accept reality. Yes, this is just like the flu and perhaps slightly more deadly, and it will "go away" when the powers controlling the information spin say it's gone away.

Cambridge uni has moved all courses online until summer 2021...
Can’t say I’m surprised, I’ve been telling my uni colleagues who thought things would be back to normal by September that they were being um, optimistic...

University my wife works at is struggling, but still apparently in much better shape than many other local universities, when it comes to getting as much online as possible and still being able to hold courses. Everything is online now, but this won't be viable for the next semester, so they are trying to find ways to enable acceptable social distancing. Lectures are easy, but the more hands on stuff like lab work is going to need some kind of physical presence.

Of the many strange (yet unsurprising) social phenomena that have emerged in the last few months far and away my favorite is the hypocrisy surrounding quarantines, masks and social distancing. At least in America it's clear that it's not about science but rather a combination of the authorities gleefully exerting their ever expanding control over the sheeple and the vast, overwhelming majority of said sheeple woke virtue signalling. Throw into the mix all of the hypocritical double standards by the media and those in leadership positions who preach one thing (YOU MUST WEAR A MASK, NOT VISIT YOUR GRANDPARENTS, GET YOUR HAIR CUT, SOCIAL DISTANCE, ETC ETC!!!) whilst turning around and doing the opposite themselves, up to and including having the frequent exchange of bodily fluids with your mistress and not only literally infecting her with covid, but also exposing her unwitting husband (and maybe kids, if there are any) to it...after openly espousing the Chinese model of draconian social controls evinced in Wuhan where people were forcibly loaded screaming into the back of what looked like cattle cars and hauled away to some uncertain (but certainly ominous) future. Just one teeny (but high profile) example.

FYI: if you're visiting your girlfriend/boyfriend/parents and you don't actually live together then you are at best a raging hypocrite who 100% doesn't give a flying fig about the science...you're just using "muh science!" to make yourself appear virtuous in conversations, walking in to grab your espresso at whatever version of Starbucks you prefer to frequent and try to win arguments on the various internet forums on the topic.

Does any of this sound familiar, gang?

Well seeing as my wife and I ARE doing what we think we should do and not contribute to the rising human population, so we DO include ourselves in that equation. Putting our money where our mouths are.

I'm glad to hear that, Leper. I'm sure the world is a better place for your decision to not reproduce. But in the future, perhaps you could leave those of who do want to reproduce alone to do so without insinuating or implying that something should be done to correct that?

That's just obfuscation and an attempt to shut down opinions that fail to align with your own and keep this thread all nice and echoe-y.

The strict adherence (or not adhering as the case may be) of quarantine protocols is ABSOLUTELY ON TOPIC

Edit: besides... who's been attacked?

Yessir! Hopefully that applies to everyone evenly:)
Jason's back then.

You must be reading a different thread because there have been disagreements in a couple of things. Not having someone share your opinion isn't an echo chamber.
