ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Announcement

As many commanders playing in VR exclusively, the absence of listed VR support in the Steam page worries me deeply. I think I am speaking for the entire Elite: Dangerous VR-community when I say that we would appreciate some sort of clarification on this issue.

This. I can only play in VR on my gaming PC now as it only has a low resolution monitor connected to it. I'm quite happy with this as I usually use the XBox for none VR games (connected to a big screen).

And if the expansion doesn't support VR, I trust that doesn't affect the VR support in the previous releases?

Looks good, really good but I need more details which will come later I know.

Looking at the trailer, either the game has been moved to a new Engine or the current Engine has had some MAJOR updates.

It also looks like "Base Building" which could be good I guess but I have to wonder if it's going to be a boring grind like Engineering is currently in order to upgrade the base.

Honestly I think this is the first time I am excited about something coming to this game since the "Gold" release because Horizons didn't get me excited beyond "Ok so I can make it to Beagle Point or Sag A* faster" but this trailer has got me really looking forward to hearing more about the DLC.

LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Hmm. Yea. Just as everybody already suspected since a long time: we get a shooter attached to the game. The question is: will it actually be so much better than the plethora of shooters already on the marked or coming out in the next time?
1. We do not know if its just a FPS bolt on. From the blurb it doesn't sound like it.

2. It doesn't need to compete with other FPS games, it just needs to be good.

If yes: interesting. How is that possible, considering that other game developers have years of experience and focus all their effort on creating the best shooter possible. (Might explain the status of carriers though: the actual effort went elsewhere. )
As stated, they are not building a FPS and doesn't need to compete with them.

If no: why bother? Wouldn't it have been more interesting to have more things to find, than to have a shooter attached? We still can't land on anything with an atmosphere, let alone with a biosphere or being able to have a submersible spacecraft (say Hello to the Moray Starboat) and explore water worlds.
Because they are not building a FPS.

Some concerns:
  • The reveal sounds very combat focused? Are non combat play styles getting new first person content too?
  • Atmospheric landings are suggested by the blue sky, but no confirmation in the reveal?
  • Beige planets are back? BOOOOOO!!!!!

Promising trailer, but I can't say I'm too excited yet as a mostly non combat Elite player. I need more info before I truly get excited, looking forward to more details down the road. Hopefully not too far away now?

The text already states "Take on a wide variety of contracts and play your way, from diplomacy and commerce to lethal stealth and all-out combat. "

The ship approaches a planet with atmosphere and lands .... how much confirmation do you need?

Admittedly it's a thin atmosphere, and about 1 G judging by how they are walking but it's a great start. Question is, can we walk around our ships?

Is this free for LEP owners?

oh I don't know.

This to me sounds a lot like Destiny. Somewhere to group up with randoms for PvE raids (missions), and with weapon crafting via engineers. I hope they've not poured all their dev time into an FPS Destiny-lite. I suppose I don't mind an element of it, but I was really hoping for more diversity in the flight simulation.

Does anyone else think that this is going to be the most "liked" forum post in history?
