So, Odyssey - 1st thoughts?

Why is it me that has to open the Odyssey thread? I read about it on the steam page and it mentions engineers. You can imagine how thrilled I am.

1st thought: It's Horizons planetary landings with 1st person shooter. OK, I kinda think it'd been better as Horizons content. And the engineer crap separate. And the stuff that has nothing to do with planetary landings. Planetary landings was the highlight. Maybe they are aware and just think pieces of it sell better.

So, what are your thoughts? Don't fight. Fanboi or hater - it's just different sides of a medal.

second thought: still nope.....and whats happening to VR support? cause I bought the game specifically for VR support. Is this going to be one of those Mac situations where you end up refunding the VR players?

1st thoughts:

Looks promising, but it sounds rather combat focused. Need a lot more details which will hopefully provide a lot of non combat gameplay too.

I'm tepidly hopeful, but not full on excited yet. Looking very forward to learning much more about Odyssey "soon".

I'm not interested. I played the original game back in the 1980s, have never thought of Elite as a walking around game, and agree with those who have said it looked a little FPS. Except that that isn't what I come to Elite for and other, specialised FPS games will do it better. So I'm hoping that this space legs content pleases those who wanted it, so the chatter about that dies off a little, while hoping also that my existing gameplay can continue as it is without me realising 'shucks I have to buy this new bit as they have ruined the old bit without it'. I'd be more likely to ditch the game altogether than be stuck with some noddy space legs bit. And I really love the game!

Looks awesome.

Also if that image is accurate its atmospheric planets. It shows a blue sky bit also atmospheric blurring of distant objects. So hopefully this is step 1 on a much deeper game.

The social hubs also allude to gameplay I haven't seen since the cantinas in SWG.

So I'm all in, they release it I will buy it.

Looks good.
Not a big fan of fps/shooters but the scenery looks great.
Open questions:
VR?
Ship interiors?
Gameplay?
Life on the planets?

Overall I'm surprised it got out today, and surprised the leaks were quite true.

Would've preferred a rebalance/overhaul, but that would've been propably difficult to sell.

The immediate reaction will be a lot of new posts on the Forum with players getting excited about the game again both for and against. We'll have a lot more to read the next few months.
