As they've proved with PowerPlay repeatedly.
Frontier is obligated to its investors, but not to its customers it seems.
So how are consoles going to cope. Also the current engine can render at 16K, so if it's about pushing pixels, I don't see a problem. There will be a new graphic engine wich does not support VR running Odyssey
Wait until it's definitely too late to do anything?
Well here's hoping. Perhaps it could be another unexpected pleasant surprise moment like the orrery map mode?Sadly seems so. Its why I'm waiting for what Odyssey brings outside of its key feature but no longer.
You think this is going to kill ED? Time for your medication as you clearly have lost touch with reality.Rest in Peace Elite: Dangerous. You had a great run.
You can, along with others, help to 'motivate' themThere's nothing I can do. As pointed out, FD are aware of the issue and of the VR community's opinion. The only people that can fix this is them.![]()

Maybe it will have no effect, but doing nothing and trusting to Frontier's good graces will most certainly have no effect.
Best we get on reddit, then. For me at least it depends how it's worded (tho I will sign if I agree personally)
IF it claims.to speak for the whole ED community and that everyone wants VR it will be derided (and rightfully so) but it's not a huge stretch to think the vast majority of the VR community will be hugely dissapointed at it being dropped.
The difference between the last open letter and a potential VR one is vr users are literally not getting access to the game. Imo ED on a screen Is a different game entirely to ED in VR. As a game I have always felt ED was a bit shallow, bit as a VR experience it more than makes up for it and it papers over the cracks .
All that said I was (hopefully obviously) joking a bit. My gut feeling is most "content creators" don't play in VR so I doubt they will care much anyway
I agree with this. Part of the debacle and absence of information may be due to the fact that the release of this information was unintended (let's not kid ourselves here) and nobody was really ready to go public about this yet. Had VR support been included, even without walking inside ships, I believe this thread would have taken a completely different turn. Instead of veiling the fleet carrier release in a dark shroud, it would have acted as an invigorating push and I would have been happy to offer my sincere support for the work being done and the fact that I would be looking forward immensely for the new update while playing around what comes with the fleet carriers. Instead, here we are, 120 pages into a thread which to a very large fraction is VR-only or mainly VR players that are naturally concerned about the future state of their game as even the base game and Horizons gameplay may be significantly affected by features available only to Odessey commanders (as engineers are only available to Horizons commanders).Wow, the community would be All in, and money would be thrown at Frontier.
No, VR routines are significant pieces of code. They are worried about and working on getting the update out. Once they do that then they can work on adding the VR routines.View attachment 175608
VR is a significant part of my day job, so I follow all the major web publications. Not happy to come across a big headline like this.
In general B2B VR is doing great, it just doesn't have the publicity. Some people will keep barking "VR is dead/dying" or "VR is a gimmick" and I'm pretty chill about it, people are just ignorant and it's understandable. It's simply not on their radar so they draw conclusions from what data they have.
But for consumer VR to ever become mainstream (as much as it ever will, which I assume is going to be something similar to HOTAS -- definitely not for every home, but stable and profitable), we need major players joining in, not bailing out. And I have little reason to consider this anything but bailing out.
"we've supported VR for seven years, now we'll remove it for a while from the new content, just so we can put it back in later."

Of course there is something you can do. You can voice your opinion. While FDev has data on usage etc, they may have misgauged the importance of certain things to parts of their community. It is therefore up to you to voice your opinion (or not, that is your prerogative). There's nothing I can do. As pointed out, FD are aware of the issue and of the VR community's opinion. It will kill ED for me and from my perspective that is really my main priority. You think this is going to kill ED? Time for your medication as you clearly have lost touch with reality.

If you mean Adam Bourke-Waite, he's no longer working for FD. And considering VR drop in favor of FPS, there may be a loach behind it all.
