Because it's not much fun to play a version of ED that isn't the one you'd play given an even playing field.
I'm sorry what do you mean by that?

Unless the only way to get certain resources to upgrade your ship is by walking or doing something on foot. I'm a console player BTW so no VR axe to grind here. That's just silly. If you aren't competing PvP space legs there's no issue
If you want to keep the VR helmet on, just don't select walking from the crotch panel seems more likely to me.
Absolutely right, people that have never played in VR should never comment about the lack of it. It really is a game changer as is removing it.It is going to kill ED for him, and for me, and for us VR users in general. And for those who think that "it's only better track ir", well, it isn't. I laugh at egg-shaped planets on flat version, the depth cues aren't there, everything feels small and in 1:72 airplane model scale, the mailslot is a slit compared to what it looks in VR (it's really huge), planets are tiny and asp cockpit doesn't incur height scare... One needs to try VR to understand how utterly fundamentally different that gaming experience is. Not with just Elite, with pretty much any game. DCS World. War Thunder. Racing sims, military sims and fps games... I will never be able to be so "intimate" with a F/A-18C Hornet cockpit, let alone fly it, yet in VR it's a pretty believable experience. This is what is being taken away from us and we are extremely sad it is happening, because it's the literal death of the game - for us.
Well no support for VR in Odyssey is a huge disappointment. I have two VR setups for Elite and enjoyed many hours with my kid in VR, spent 100s in the Frontier Store. I suppose they are willing to just lose a part of their loyal fan base over this. It's a real shame. Looking at it now, it is probably going to feel like two separate games to me, and I have loads of cracking first person shooters that I can turn too on flat screens if that is the type of game I'm looking for. There is so much competition in that space already, will be interesting to see how it works out for Frontier. Elite containing VR mechanics Half Life Alyx or Lone Echo was too difficult to do I suppose.
so can VR players perhaps expect the other enhancements such as the atmospheric landings, Ice Worlds, upgraded graphics, new SRVs etc. I mean to the onboard gameplay.
I mean that if you are forced to play in a previous version of ED because Frontier (for whatever reason) does not support your setup, it's not going to be the best experience.I'm sorry what do you mean by that?
Seriously, walking in Half Life Alyx is rubbish? It works and works very very well.I don't really care about VR in Elite Dangerous. I use it sometimes and the only place it works well in this game is CQC Arena, in the main game not so much.
Walking in VR in any game is just rubbish, so I don't care about rubbish space legs VR experience to be honest.
Half of those haven't been announced even in non-VR ...Hi Tim, so can VR players perhaps expect the other enhancements such as the atmospheric landings, Ice Worlds, upgraded graphics, new SRVs etc. I mean to the onboard gameplay.
There's no real indication of that though.nless the only way to get certain resources to upgrade your ship is by walking or doing something on foot.
Vote with your wallet then. don't buy Odyssey until it has VR support, and let Fdev know, whenever you can. After the initial 6 months of sales exhaust those that can live without VR, they will want to keep sales going, and if say 25% of the ED / EDH playerdase wont buy EDO , because they want VR support, then there will be a commercial decision made. But you will probably get good inship / space VR but crap FPS implementation.
I have VR via a old Oculus Rift DK2 720p set 2nd hand from 2016. but I haven't used it since July 2016 when I moved house, it's still in a box in the loft somewhere. I did really enjoy EDH VR but using a Siatek Cyborg Evo Joystick and keyboard it's "difficult" with VR headsets, you really need to add voice control systems not to break the immersion.
But as a 2015 lifetime pass holder I will get EDO free anyway, and all my playing since 2017 has been 2k 26" screen and I am ok with that. I may dig out the OR DK2 at some point , but I wont upgrade it to a decent modern VR set until EDO has VR support, but it wont stop me from playing the game. Anyway they have now said ED and EDH will retain VR support, so it's onlt the new EDO content you wont have, no one is taking away you current ED VR experience.
You don't understand because you're new around here probably, judging from join date. I have been waiting on this expansion since at least 2016. Bloody 5 years to be more exact. So don't act so surprised if I consider that I have given frontier enough bloody time as I reasonably can. People with LE pass have been waiting since 2014. Now we're being EXCLUDED from this update, like so.I don't understand
(...)
And give them bloody time..
Telling us VR users to be happy with what we have is not helping.
Too many cooks?
Well the 100 staff members working on Odyssey for two years must have been doing something.Half of those haven't been announced even in non-VR ...
CMs commit quickly when they can, for example they confirmed that LEPers will be getting Odyssey at no addition cost very quickly.
I do love these condescending ignorant comments, maybe @Katie Byrne can chime in how she and her husband are "single, living in a basement and dislike the radiation from sunlight" lolBut if was single, lived in a basement, disliked the radiation from sunlight, I'd definitely buy one online.
I couldn't buy in store though, because I prefer to use VR to go grocery shopping - it makes it so immersive.
Yeah, I'd like to see the new content and then see if the VR-heads think it would be a fun VR experience - maybe at that point it will be 'ahhh, makes sense now'I can understand the upset, but i can also see that it would have been stupid to delay an update in an attempt to get VR to work and more importantly, work equally well with non-VR players. I can imagine the rage had they churned out a poor VR experience, the outragfe would be worse.
Im pretty patient when it comes to the game but id be pretty annoyed if there was another delay just to get it to work in VR for what is a relatively small amount of the player base. They've not said it definately wont appear and hopefully they'll give further details when they start going into the game in more detail.
