I have no idea what you're trying to say.Someone who only plays in VR mentioned about the time put in to get a Fleet Carrier they will not use in Odyssey.

It's easy if you know we are talking about playing in VR. He won't see it in Odyssey because he won't be playing it.I have no idea what you're trying to say.
Probably stupid question:
As per my toys-out-the-pram posts above I'm v upset at no VR support for Odyssey and will likely be saying a sad goodbye to ED
but
How possible/easy is it to switch from VR to pancake modes in-game? I've never had to do that in a VR game beforebecause other games don't do such ridiculous thingsso I don't know but I suspect you can't easily swap in and out of something mid-game. I mean, there's the mirrored screen thing but that's not good enough to play on I don't think. Not sure how it would work.
So perhaps if as an interim measure, devs could come up with a clean VR to pancake transition that works easily or something? Then, while much less than ideal, one could land on a planet, take off HMD, do a bit of walking around and then jump back in the ship again and continue playing in VR. That might keep some VR players in the game if it works well enough?
It sounds like a lot of people have - it goes without saying that if you spend big money on hardware which is wholly dependent on one piece of 3rd party software you have no control over, then you`ve got to accept that one day, you will probably get hung out to dry. Not nice, but inevitable. Generically speaking - if you get 5 years out of such a setup before support is pulled, you're doing okay.
Not quite agree.
A game company that drops an already implemented feature during an upgrade is rather rare.
Why would anyone want to go back. Would you go back to watching terrestrial TV. Would you go back to watching it in black and white. Would you go back to CRT monitors that weigh an absolute ton. (somebody is going to say yes to that, I just know it) Phones with no touch screens. It should be about going forwards. It really should.I have tried really hard today to get to grips with flying in pancake mode.
I tried for two hours
I really don't get it... I don't understand the decision. As a teacher of design and technology (retired) the emphasis has always been learn from the past and move forwards into the future, learn from the prototype and make the next version better. VR will move forwards... it will get better in every way... it will develop... others will utilise it to great effect... and Elite will lose out, not financially but in being the vanguard... rather than the broom wagon. It is such a shame.
Yes... my pain is still with me.
I wont be trying 2D again... it's just not the same fully immersed experience. I have 8 months... maybe 9 of being on the same page as every other player... well perhaps not on the same page but at least reading from the same book, and then it's Horizons only if and when I fly.
Off to make a space ship out of a cardboard box, some string and sticky tape and utilise my own imagination.
Thank you to all who have contributed to these 241 pages... hope to see you in Horizons Open at some point before the lights go out.

Anyway, stick around to fight the good fight. We need every Commander we can get.
Just using examples of things I don't think people would want to go back to. If you think this game is important to me you would be wrong and I'm sorry if I gave that impression. It's a video game, it's a bit of escapism that's all. Maybe we just want the hobby that we partake in to be the best it can. Is there something wrong with that?Would you leave real life behind for a virtual world? Go to the theater or something, going outside sometimes help you, guys. What a drama you are putting together for something that will not come out until, at least ,a year or more.
look at the game now, in a year it will be worse, don't worry.
Why do you even have to say that?I guarantee that the vast majority of those players claiming that they won't be playing Elite ever again because Odyssey doesn't have "blah blah blah" will be there on day one downloading it like the rest of us.
i know these exist but my eyes are too far off or i'd have a piece of 1cm thick glass ...I have custom lenses that fit on top of the VR lenses...
No that's not what is being said. If you play using the expansion it does not support VR. If you're in space or on a non atmospheric planet, then you can interact with anyone from horizons or the base game as normal. Base game and horizons players do not get the walking part or the atmospheric that are coming in Odyssey as is standard for most computer expansions. So VR players will not be allowed to interact with anyone that has the "expansion"? Kind of kills the whole multiplayer aspect .
Things could be worse. We could be 6 years in and still in alpha!I am not saying you are wrong however we had an entire 2 years+ "free" expansion who's primary function was as an apology to the playerbase for delays and to get the core game in order then a further 6 month delay of fleet carriers also the squash bugs and make sure the game was working properly.
Just how many years can FD be expected to have as a free pass to sort out the game whilst still staying current and in players interest.?
Horizons was heavily intimated to be a year with some wiggle room to go over . I think waiting 6 years for the 2nd paid expansion is not being too impatient.
Whilst I agree with you in principle the pedant in me has to say, CRTs spank modern monitors and TVs for a lot of my gaming. I had to replace the CRT screen in my arcade cab and it is not even close to as good. I would love to go backWhy would anyone want to go back. Would you go back to watching terrestrial TV. I don't think it is honest calling those having their primary way they play the game not having support in their new content as haters.Love this, there will always be haters. Just like WoW there will be those naysayers that complain about it though they still pay their monthly sub and purchase the current expansion. Take my money!!!
Imagine what kind of desk you would need for a large widescreen CRT monitor.Whilst I agree with you in principle the pedant in me has to say, CRTs spank modern monitors and TVs for a lot of my gaming. Other than that I agree fully am just being obtuse
