Newcomer / Intro Confused Newbee

So I am trying to build up credits by taking on delivery jobs and after 60+ thousand in credits I take a job but when I look at the route I find that even with a fuel scoop I will not make it. I end up abandoning the job and get fined 210,000 credits. It took a few hours to just get to where I was and another day to pay off the fine. What can I do to keep getting fined in the future. I really am enjoying the game but come on!

Thanks for the replies. I did have a scoop but wanted to make to many credits I guess. I was still docked where I picked up the mission so I thought I could abandon it there without any problem. Live and learn...

The Elite universe is a very harsh place at times so always check the small print for missions especially if the mission has a higher rank than you do or it offers a lot of money.

We all make that mistake at some point, some of us (looking in mirror), more than once. It's how I ended up making the pilgrimage to Hutton way, way back in the day. Failed to check the delivery destination before accepting and too stubborn/poor to abandon. Good times, good times. :D

Yeah, just check the map while you're on the mission window before you accept. Courier missions are nice and easy bread and butter ways of making money though so you're off to a good start. I've only once had a bunch of NPC's come after me because I had the wrong cargo. It seems quite rare. One of them did kill my ship though because I didn't realise there was a way out of interdiction.

And I've abandoned missions a few times. Don't sweat it.

To cover another common mistake before it happens ... if you ever run out of fuel, just call the Fuel Rats (go to fuelrats.com and click Get Help). They'll have someone out to rescue you in minutes!

Nice. I was a little surprised by how much fuel I used after getting my frame shift drive engineered and switched to longer jumps. That's another thing newbies should bare in mind. I didn't even realise you could plot routes with longer jumps in the system window until last week.

PS: And by that I mean the galaxy map window. Not specifically any system.

If you set up a home base and develop a good reputation with local factions mission rewards go up. Aim for a type 6 if you want to earn while trucking. It's a good ship with a decent range. You'll find also you need to buy the biggest cargo racks for the slots. Final bit of advice is to find a home base with a profitable return trip, over 5000 Cr per unit, inara.cz will be a good place to search markets. There will be one near you.

Where are you now and on what platform? PC,PS4 or XBox? And what ship do you have ?

I have an interesting job perhaps pay is 2m for 3 days plus mission rewards mostly data but some light cargo should be enough to set you up with a Cobra 111 and creds in the bank

scroll right to open navigation text panel scroll down to "Fastest Route" - "Most Economical Route l(east fuel many more jumps)" select

I never thought about establishing a home base to gain maximum reputation points. I'm not sure that matters to me but it's still an interesting point.

Nice. I just went with the default max. Though, like I say, I was a bit concerned with how much fuel it used. I usually park under a sun when the scoop hits near 60 while I check the system map for anything interested. That way I know I probably won't get roasted.

It's very important to refuel when you're outside the bubble and making long jumps. My little Cobra can only do like 26 light years so it's not too scary.

It takes more jumps but with a discovery scanner honking each system the UC data mounts up
