Newcomer / Intro Mining LTD's - what am I doing wrong?

  • I'm at Borann A2
  • I'm in a hotspot where about three overlap each other
  • I'm firing off my prospector limpets
  • I'm getting about one in fifteen 'roids with LTD's
  • Of those, about a third are > 20% loaded with LTD's

What am I missing? 200mCR an hour? Not for me it's not :rolleyes::(
are you placing yourself in between all three hot spots coming into the middle in the band that is in and then targeting that hotspot and running towards it - thats how i get my diamonds

Weird... there were no hotspots again showing when I approached - have had this glitch before - so I went to use the DSS, and suddenly they all showed up before I had a chance to scan... but my chat got flooded with all kinds of chatter... - is that normal?

Happens sometimes, I have even had to relog to get them to display. Now I don't bother, if the highlight circles are not shown I just use the nav markers to pilot to where I want to go.

IIRC, you can't see the spots in combat mode. They appear when you switch to discovery mode.

Same... before I took a break to start the engineering process and get myself up to Novice (still waiting for the signature to catch up with the changes in Inara) I had the same issue... so I usually find the low RES and then untarget and aim for the middle etc.

As soon as I switched to re-scan they re-appeared so all good. It was a good enough yield so all good.

Appreciate that I am not in Borann, but I am hitting 50m cr an hour if that helps. 200m would be lovely, but am still plenty happy with 50m. Sounds as though our experiences are similar.

I'm not mining in Borann though, I've found even a quadruple hotspot (3 overlapping and 1 nested) in Colonia. I doubt it's stripped bare as I never shared this info yet and, while all systems with stations or outposts are well known in Colonia, I doubt all unpopulated systems are completely examined yet, especially when it comes to rings. Maybe the devs have toned down the distribution of LTDs globally now?

Don't know if things have improved for you, but I am also up in Colonia, mine LTDs exclusively, and I have a planet with three hotspots. Am pulling around 50m cr an hour, am in a Cutter but am new to mining so am conscious that my build needs a tweak (don't have enough collectors!).

My experience with laser mining matches that, which is why I now do core mining. The pulse wave analyser means you can cruise above the asteroids pinging away until you spot a likely one. As I fly towards it can now tell if it is a faker or the real deal. When I get close fire off a prospector, target the fissures and then boom! Collect the goodies. I can make 50-80 million an hour with Void Opals or Benitoite more with LTD’s. Not a huge payout, but very few other things will net that much and it is not about money, it is about having fun.

A cobra will core mine, a keel does it better. And its not that expensive. Mine glowing (really glowing) crack them for the cores, cobra can make more delivering parcels/cargo. Best starter miner is keel for me, and im not even slightly on a meta curve loadout or in a rich area. I make daft money (relatively)

Decided to try this core mining thing. Outfitted a Python and spent a few nights in Borann. Just flying above the asteriods and pinging for the really bright ones. Made a couple billion (or close to that), but I'm so bored with it that I parked the miner for now. As I have no intention of buying a FC I really don't need the credits, so off to find something else to do.

Yeah I find core mining a relaxing change from other activities. Not something I would do all the time!

i do lazer mining in a keelback atm . i do not have all the equipment, then but haven't found a way to target the fissures yet! biggest payout about 5mill at moment...has you get target by pirates all the time

Currently in irula station 1-2 jump away.

any speling mistakes i blame the new keyboard it very touchy:)

How do you know there was an LTD update yesterday?
Cos the update patch notes said so. It wasn’t a specific LTD mining change. They reduced the number of fragments subsurface mining produces and reduced the frequency of asteroids in the peripheries of hotspots so a double overlap now has fewer mineable roids than the centre of a hotspot. A good triple hotspot is still better.
