Extincted In The Wild DLC

One of the main purpose of the zoo is conversation. Therefore I think, an interesting theme for a DLC would be animals, whose survival depends on the success of their conversation programs:

  • Père David's deer: Todays population of more than 1.000 descend from the at the time last three fertile deer from the Berlin Zoo in the beginning of the 1900 century
  • Scimitar oryx: Extincted in the wild, but a common zoo animal
  • Barbary lion: Extincted in the wild, but an uncommon zoo animal. A little big bigger and a bigger mane than the other lion species
  • Black softshell turtle: The only know population survived in temple pods in the Indian area of Assam. The State Zoo of Assam is playing an important role in this conservation project, serving as the location where baby turtles are reared for six months. When deemed fit and healthy, and capable of surviving, the young turtles are released into the wild. As of 2016, the State Zoo of Assam has released 300 turtles. Now 16 temples in Assam are helping in this important project.

Building items should be basic zoo items: walls and roofs of bars and wire mesh

If this animal list is not interesting enough to sell DLC copies by itself, Frontier could add an animal which is almost extincted in the wild. There are of course many possibilities, but here is a shortlist of interesting possible additions :
  • any leopard but the African
  • Sumatra rhino
  • Numbat

Pere David's deer and Scimitar Horned Oryx are two of my most requested animals. That's a great idea! I also (even though they aren't extinct in the wild, I really want Saiga Antelope)

I would absolutely love this dlc. This would be really fun and could add for interesting scenarios such as breeding these and releasing them into the wild. A lot of people seem to not like this idea because they believe it will take away from other dlcs and it’s not realistic. Either way we can dream and at the end of the day it’s a video game. Maybe they can release this alongside another dlc.

I would love to have the saga, too! It is really a shame, that it's not kept in any zoo outside the UdSSR anymore. It's such an unique appearance.

This is not an unrealistic DLC (like dodo or other extinct animals). Those animals are still alive in captivity. The Scimitar oryx is even a common zoo animal, but often overlooked. I think it would be more popular than the Arctic DLC, if Frontier chooses to include the leopard instead of the lion

I never said it wouldn’t be realistic but everytime I bring up something about extinct animals or the Barbary lion in other threads others state a DLC like this shouldn’t be explored because it’s not realistic as well as other things. I completely disagree with those people and I think this would make for a great dlc.

I think the Dresden Zoo in Germany keep Saigas, too. At least, I saw them there some ten years or so ago.

And the Hannover Zoo bred (and breeds them ) scimitar oryx and some Zoo (don't know which one) released some scimitar oryx to a tunesian national park, where they built up a little herd now, living free again. (messed it up with addax, which where bred in Hannover and released to a tunesian national park.)

I'm against DLC with unrealistic animals, such as unicorns or pegasi or pteranodons - but animals that are kept in zoos, even if they are extinct in the wild can't really be called unrealistic zoo-animals, can they?

According to Zootierliste.de they aren't keeping them anymore. No Zoo in Germany keeps them currently. But there are 2 EAZA Zoos that still keep them(Almaty and Askaniya Nova)
I don't know if any Zoos that aren't EAZA Zoos are keeping them

Cologne was the last zoo in Western Europe to keep saiga.

I feel that a Barbary lion just isn’t distinct enough - visually or genetically - to merit inclusion when we don’t have unlimited DLCs coming our way.

There is also lack of consensus on the genetic status of lions kept in captivity that are claimed to be Barbary lions.

There is but the Barbary lion is still popular enough to be included in a dlc.

But how do you define popular?

We won't have unlimited DLCs and there won't be unlimited animals in those DLCs and I cannot see people choosing a slightly different looking lion that is not even universally recognised as being significantly genetically distinct over a completely new animal.

I don’t care it won’t happen so I’m not getting into it. I am bias because I am a huge fan of the Barbary lion. It is my favorite animal. I would also rather them change the skin of the lion in the game cause it looks awful.

I’ll admit another lion would be great but I don’t know if I would be willing to give up a animal spot for one. Maybe the asiatic lion if any. I like Barbary lions but I do believe them to be extinct in captivity as well as the wild or at least not 100% purebred anyway. Saiga and the deer would be welcome additions. I do believe we will get alligators, black rhino, red deer, dromedary camel, and maybe a leopard since there referenced in game decor. So one would think some future dlcs would represent the animals areas in the world.

Exactly, as I said many times I would 100% rather them fix the model itself then adding another. I do believe it’s unlikely any pure bred Barbary lions exist in captivity anymore but it’s clear that some lions have Barbary genes left in them. A game is supposed to be fun and I think a cool franchise mode scenario would be to breed a pure bred Barbary lion to release into wild. Again just my opinion on what I would find extremely fun and cool.

So extinct animals are not the same as extinct in the wild, thats where you are having difficulties.

There are barbary lions in zoos but not in the wild, hence they are classified as extinct in the wild.

I imagine why no one wants barbary lions is because lions are already in the game (who is paying money for a species that's essentially identical to the other African lion species in the game)

Or it could be because barbary lions are no longer considered a seperate species genetically from Asiatic lions.

This dlc idea is asking for animals that are ONLY found in zoos, it's a great idea. If you like extinct animals Jurassic World exists

When did I say they were alive in the wild? And the the creator of this thread is the one who suggested the Barbary lion. I imagine you can’t speak for everyone and neither can I. I wouldn’t want any other lions either if the one they gave us looked half decent. Also some argue that Barbary lions are still found in zoos. It’s been confirmed that Atleast there genome is still there in specific zoos. Don’t spin what I said.

Like the selection of animals, except the barbary lion.

I don't think the game needs another lion. Leopard or another (big) cat would be fine as well.
Just for variation I would like to see a primate or reptile.

A while ago, there was a topic about "how do you want to see DLC for the next 3 years", I posted 4 DLC (of 12) suggestions based on the conservation status.
So a big fan of this. At least we get rid of the continent based DLC.

No thanks.
There are many "living" animals that I'd prefer.

*note: It was still early when responding on this monday.... I did not read the OP correctly.
