Honestly at this point, there is a backbone missing in this game. A driver, a cause, a plot.
Braben made his childhood dream come true. And I hope he is enjoying the fruits of his labours, but for the rest of us, we're struggling to find our way in this game. It is as if there's a private party going on in Braben's game and most of us don't get it. I tried my hand at all the different things to do and it gets very very tedious after a while. What never gets boring are the sound effects and the music. That is really nice and I love the Hardpoints and how the different weapons and mining tools sound. Great job on that. But there are only so many times I can bear doing the same things over and over in this game.
Then having those things to do nerfed, so that they aren't as rewarding is not a good move. I've just wasted the past 2 hours core mining for pretty much enough money to pay for my fuel and loadout. There isn't much else going on, because I've collected the millionth Black Box, received fines, claimed bounties, blown open asteroids, travelled to a far star sytem and back, engineered ship systems, googled how to get to an alien ruin, rescued a life support pod, driven across a bland, empty ball of rock and it's getting to be pointless, because it's the same deal every time and what for? Nothing happens. There are a fair few things to do, that's good - but it's the same short-lived, un-rewarding task that I honestly don't feel like doing in my precious spare time outside of work.
I had such high hopes for this when I backed it, now I feel left out in the rain. There needs to be something other than the same 'community event'; gather x amount of x item and deliver it to x place... honestly, is that all that's going on? Making a Galaxy that is inhabited by sentient beings who are able to traverse that galaxy, should have some kind of story going on in it, something to really aim for. Not grindy tasks and empty galaxy.
