Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

There are two simple words that point to all that WiP stuff never being completed... Salvage and Refuelling. We've been waiting for Ci¬G to finish those 2 off since before 3.0 back in 2017.
Linked to this, ship to ship docking, which was promised way far back then, many ships even have this docking ring for that purpose. I remember the promises ("very soon") and all the cultist dream crafting that went around it. Honestly, i never cared too much about this feature, but it's interesting how it got buried in the same yard as sataball, land claims, space kitty, etc.

Yeah I did a deep dive on the more recent state of play:

Just as a recap. As of Dec 2019, the Hull C needed:

  • Chris's refactor of the physics system, which had recently been implemented at that point and was 'in the game'.
  • Ship-to-station docking to be worked up with that blocker removed.
  • The sliding physics grids in the Hull series to be worked up with that blocker removed.
  • Larger cargo containers to be added to the game.

Some notable recent roadmapping issues:

Bonus errata:

---

Given that backdrop, I'm not hugely convinced they've got the tech, or the game design, in a particularly great place as yet. Or that their functioning arrival is an inevitability ;)

If you can remember any of the pre-2018 chat that would be cool though. Like you say docking collars were definitely bigged up for a while.

Land claims is not for the release, it's an after release project.
Sataball has been effectively buried.
Space kitty : doesn't know, what's that ?

For the docking engine, they can't bury it. Too much gameplays and mechanics rely on it. They just, as usual, struggle to make it (like salvaging).

From SaltEMike, a really cool landing with the new flight model. It's on the right path...
EDIT : the twitch media insert doesn't seem to work, how do you do it ?

Star kitten was one of roughly 400 billion braindead ideas from back when CI¬G habitually broke every copyright law in existence and infringed on so many IPs that they became remained the laughing-stock of the industry. Since Sanrio is known to be a very generous and inclusive company when it comes to their intellectual property, CI¬G decided it was a good idea to make the laziest Hello Kitty clone imaginable and use that in their commercial activities.

…completely not a rip-off of

It was quickly buried and never spoken of again because the company had this odd fondness for not being sued into a smoking hole in the ground.

This was well after the era when “Archering” became an established term borne out of CI¬G's every-day activities.

Clearly this is subsumption in action. That NPC has the "joyrider" trait enabled in his nested neuropaths, and the probability volume he was pouring drinks in just triggered him to follow a different subset of functions to go about his daily life in the alternative featureset.

Good question... what is actually considered “release ready” version of SC? And is there a list of V1.0 features somewhere for the most open developed game ever?
According to Genuine Roberts, the current version is the release. As in "you can play it, yes?". There might be the list of v1.0 features, I think it might somewhere in v3 of this thread, but I'm not sure, it's too old, too many years have passed since we had v1.0

Part of a "care" package they sent to long standing employees

I wonder why they used LGBT version of spectrum, not the common one. Is that a subtle part of the message?

June is LGBT+ Pride Month. But if the package was indeed received in July, we could just chalk it up to yet another missed target date.

Also, it seems quite in keeping with their regular modus operandi to see something neat and then use it without any real clue what it's actually for.

As long everyone uses the Oxford comma there will be no need for violence.
Best invention ever. Should be mandatory everywhere.
