Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

One sure thing about reddit...there doesn't seem to be any farmers pretentiously asserting to be programmers or CTO's (whatever they are) posting anything about Star Citizen...Every time I read reddit posts, I get the distinct feeling that I'd get similar responses from my cows if I got them all together in one pen to discuss Farming Simulator 2019. Lots of head butting, pointless mooing and dropping crap all over the place that someone else has to clean up

Why would anyone care that the user has been PMd unless the comment is trying to imply something else entirely. The user has been sent to the naughty step, make sure you behave or you will also be sent to the naughty step!!
It's like the warning when you get temp-banned saying it won't affect your game access at this time.

Seems a bit heavy handed for a company which only got to where it is because of those people they are now threatening.

Comes across like unnecessary information. A bit strange as they relay such info for everybody to see but you would get a warning or outright ban for stating "I got PMed by a moderator". Shrug so the CIG moderator team is as incompetent and touchy as the leadership. Crap rolls downhill is the right term I think. Could very well be a sutble reminder/threat usable by anybody whos cherishing and praising the gospel = enforcing a certain behavior and obviously you need to walk on eggshells if you plan to critizise anything about SC.

Its the main reason the official CIG site has turned into an echo chamber in the past. The projects shortcomings and failings are so frequent and severe by now that the peasents rebel without regard for bans and punitive actions. I dont see that changing anytime soon seeing as CIG seems to be incapable of improving the mess they created. So either the moderation will turn even more agressive or the forum will add new restrictions to prevent badmouthing.

CTO is Chief Technology Officer - and like CEO (Executive) does the overlooking of executing stuff, this person does the overlooking of technology stuff - picking what technologies will be used, setting standards, etc.

So if you have a small company of four and you say: "We'll use git and agile, let's deploy a few WordPress sites" and your friends are like: "OK, cool (glad it's not me deciding that)", then you're technically a CTO, I guess.

Comments are an interesting read. White knights not gaining much traction and skeptical comments through the roof.

But as Mole says, CIG can always just sell another JPG to get people excited again.

TL/DR - CIG shouldn't spend time on trivial things, focus on core systems. PS: Also enable the ability to make female fun bags bigger.

CR said more funding will go to increasing scope, but they're now aiming forr minimum viable product so no "increasing scope", why then do people still keep giving them money? CIG clearly don't need it, they got all the money to develop SC and failing that they could sell SQ42 to finish it. Their own words.
It's a good thing CR absolved himself, I can't remember for what but he clearly isn't responsible for any failure or incompetence.

Chief Technical Officer, aka the guy who decides that no, let's not upgrade this month to enforce security compliance becase he doesn't have a problem figuring out clever passwords and ensuring that no untowards apps run on his compu... WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY KEYLOGGED MY PW AND INSTALLED A BOTFARM USING A MONTHS-OLD VULNERABILITY THAT WAS REMOVED FIVE UPGRADES AGO!?

Compare and contrast IT Ops guys who have to fill in request forms for clearly mandatory upgrades in the vain hope that the execs will approve them this time, and then clean up the mess when they don't.

1st rule of mod club is: You don't talk about mod club.

It goes both ways round.

CTOs are quite often pretty proficient. The problem is that they're arguing with the rest of the board whop see IT as simply a cost and don't understand the basic implications of technology, let alone the technicalities. So you end up with out-of-date infrastructure that messes the bed and the suits wonder why they can't do anything.

And having spent a lot of my professional life in support or ops IT getting noticed only when something goes wrong is an absolutely true stereotype!

Shoving the Mercury out won't drag them in much cash..when in comparison with the likes of the Carrack...since practically everyone that will fly one has already bought it...but it deflects the critiscism from the more shallow of the concierge enclave and stops them joining the revolt.
I dunno mate. The MSR main appeal, apart from being a better Freelancer, is data running. Which is clearly nowhere in sight... So it will put a bit of salt on that wound i think - there's another data runner ship in game (the Herald) but i suppose it didnt sell in large numbers as i've never seen any in the PU. On the opposite the MSR sold in very large numbers i suppose (it's got the same kind of appeal as the Freelancer) and the buyers will be quickly disappointed that its main function is at the moment just extra 3D assets. So the impact of that ship release will be a bit more short lived i suppose...

That's fair enough, but it's also worryingly common that the CTO is just the executive-trained person who also has a passing knowledge of the tech-side (enough to talk to, and be a danger for) the actual techs. Over time, they may turn into actual knowledgable people, if they don't switch to another C[whatdever]O position first. It's perhaps the latter category that ends up being more obstructive than the ones who get there by being actual tech people, who just so happen to have risen to an executive position.

Perhaps it might be a slight case of stereotyping to assume that anything SC-relate would be a case where actual merit wasn't a factor… :D
