Elite Dangerous: Odyssey | The Road To Odyssey Part 1 - One Giant Leap

Dear Frontier, not this post does not represent everyone who owns VR. If Odyssey lives up to these videos, I'll buy it, VR or not.

I'm a VR boy, and I'm kinda embarrassed at how my comrades are behaving... We're not all like this!
Sadly, I'm in the #NoVRNoBuy camp.
Not out of malice, I'm just stating a fact.

I have really tried getting in ED flatscreen.
I have a projector and surround sound speaker system. Tried it on monitor and headphones. No good.

Some people can go back to flat screen. I cant. It's my loss.

at least i know what im asking David braben tonight. and it's definitely RAXXLA related.
(im not ready for having to look for raxxla on foot aswell. it's gona be a long walk)

I am still questioning the gameplay reason to buy odyssey in the first place. One major lack of information always comes with a FD presentation. Even here they state "We want palyers to engage with these (billions and billions of planets) [...]." but none of them really states why the players (we) want to engage with them. Sure some just find enjoyment in playing a tourist across the 'verse but speaking of a gameplay reason? As I know FD there most likely won't be any meaningful gameplay to it at the start, let alone rewards. Assuming the rewards are similar to exploration levels, I might as well just wait another year until the expansion really has mentionable gameplay to it that can compete with the already existing one(s).

Looks a great video for sure, well done Devs, but still technically way behind what Hello Games have been offering for free (although Frontier do lead the way with high quality realistic graphics)... Unfortunately, there is still no implimentation of VR. Only then will I purchase Odyssey.

Another burning question:

When we land on planet pop, can we bust a dance emote?

Here, take my money FD, TAKE ALL OF IT! :)
It's great I agree.

But really isn't it just updated to current standards?
We knew about work on planet surfaces years ago, looks amazing. But it's time FD started teasing other stuff. Two videos now and they are basically the same content with the exception of the "DNA harvester gun". Focused Feedback/ Design Discussions? Answer the bunch of common questions already posted? Make a slick newsletter with teasers like Sagittarius Eye? Peek of the week?

I mean, is it really THAT hard? 18 weeks until the end of the year. 18 pictures at one per week. There should be VASTLY more content than that to tease us with.

i mean even if they dont state it yet, i can see many obvious reasons for space legs that will eventually HAVE to be added. like shooting thargoids in their flesh form. they simply cant miss out on that aspect. another reason is to explore underground guardian ruins. i've seen some locked doors in those guardian ruins, they look pretty tiny such as no srv will fit in them. maybe space legs will unlock those doors for exploration on foot. and will allow us to unlock some guardian weapons for FPS play. guardian grenades and such. good to use against thargoid nests. you know, among other things. theres definitely a huge potential for odyssey, that goes beyong just gimmick, but actual usefull gameplay reasons. even if it doesn't come streight away from first launch 😄

My sentiments exactly :)

yep, all i want is VR support for Flying and Driving in atmospheres. dont care at all about walking around

I think that's exactly what we'll get.
It's quite obvious that the problem with VR is to make it work well enough on foot.

Funny thing is, I wouldn't even care about the "gameplay" side of things, I'd be perfectly happy to just walk around all tourist-like sampling rocks pretending to be Buzz Aldrin as long as I get to do it in VR. If the game is going to be all immersion, feels, vibes and "simulation" I'd rather experience it in the medium that is the perfect fit for all that.

I wouldn't need "emotes" to do that in VR.
