Elite Dangerous: Odyssey | The Road To Odyssey Part 1 - One Giant Leap

We've been told that VR is not being removed from existing game content - so neither are VR players losing their display method.

That VR is not going to be included in Odyssey at launch suggests to me that one or more non-trivial implementation issues exist regarding non-seated gameplay.

HDMI adapters for phones exist.
Were this true then FD would have said VR is still supported, but might be sickness inducing when walking around on foot.

They could very easily and clearly answer the VR questions, which they have only partially done, because they haven't said if VR will only work on the Horizons client, or if VR will still work in Odyssey just as it does today, but isn't recommended for walking about due to they haven't yet got a good solution for that to prevent headaches and puke.

I have a theory the 'DNA Harvester Gun' might be used for the ultimate Kali Ma moments of combat, just as we can get Thargoid Hearts.

shoots other player and gets a message
FINISH HIM!

We finally get the improved ice planets, hurray!! 🙌

But kuddos to the devs, the new planetary tech in Odyssey looks amazing!!
Just hope until then I can land on Deciat 6b without crashing. 🙃

There's also a consideration as to the form of locomotion - as I doubt that flatscreen players would enjoy VR players teleporting about.

All we have, so far, is that Odyssey will not offer VR at launch.

Nice video from the
It's great I agree.

But really isn't it just updated to current standards?
We knew about work on planet surfaces years ago, looks amazing. But it's time FD started teasing other stuff. Two videos now and they are basically the same content with the exception of the "DNA harvester gun". Focused Feedback/ Design Discussions? Answer the bunch of common questions already posted? Make a slick newsletter with teasers like Sagittarius Eye? Peek of the week?

I mean, is it really THAT hard? 18 weeks until the end of the year. 18 pictures at one per week. There should be VASTLY more content than that to tease us with.
Let's see if we get more detail tonight. Discovery Scanner videos are usually very informative.

see these bunker doors in the guardian sites? i bet they gona be explorable on foot. leading underground in a dungeon style content, or something along those lines.

it's gona be something like: shoot some thargoids with normal guns. realise they are weak guns that only work on npcs and pirates. go explore some guardian ruins. solve some on foot puzzles. unlock some guardian tech. craft some upgraded guardian weapons and grenades. shoot some thargoids for good. discover raxxla while you're at it.

Did i see a pilot in front of her srv?
I really hope we can go around on srvs and get in and out at will.
And no, i was not so sure it would have been the case until i've seen that frame.

Thanks for showing some new in-game footage and concept art.

Did they add more detail to the SRV?
Looks like the same old SRV to me (right down to the wheel thrusters that someone claimed were missing). It's just in an unusual matt black and the lights and thrusters are all off (presumably 'cos it's just pre-alpha footage with a bunch of the detail effects turned off).

Yes, we'll see.
TBD.
DB has been absent from ED direct comms for too long.
But also, pulling the strings from the CEO suite?
The decreasing of actual "deep" engagement and hype building compared to 2012-2016 or so is huge.
The gamers making content and promoting the game part time for free have outpaced the company.
With so many free/cheap digital tools and channels on the internet available, the approach is surprising to me.
NDA early access for select few and not even a weekly peek for the rest of us, not answering the most urgent, basic questions is bizarre.
FD would be better off farming out the hype strategy and publication to Sagittarius Eye and the two most popular streamers and Lave Radio
Give them including interviews, Q&A, screenies, etc.
Now that would be a strong and exciting reason to have an NDA and early access, versus what FD have done, which just seems yucky and sneaky and very not-transparent.

Well that Dev Diary teased a fair bit, but the clips, however short and brief... have me pretty excited for this.

I think the gameplay I am most involved in is exploration. I keep thinking about how they define thin atmosphere. Im also stoked to see fdev develop the planetary tech and atmospheres further.

The changes to the ice worlds, just from that short clip of the SRV and the fly over in a Cobra... beautiful!

Please give us visually non-generic armor. Looks like a Mass Effect knockoff. I want Alien franchise spacesuits. Something you wear over your perfectly functional Remlok suit, and customizable.

In that entire video, we only have 3 seconds of on foot first person (3:06 - 3:09). Of course, we have 0 seconds of VR.... heartbroken.

Please don't make us walk with that device or weapon aimed forward at all times, it looks extremely cringe-y. We should be able to stow weapons or devices, as we walk around.

Also, I'm curious, will we still be able to deploy the SRV on these worlds, or will there be a technical limitation that will force us on foot, no SRV. The SRV is a vehicle and moves much faster than walking.

Not just that, she was standing on a Horizons non-atmosphere planet.
