Could Odyssey unlock the Cobra Mk IV again?

I wonder if there was a poll, asking players who own it, how would they feel, if it was made available, one way or another?

So much time passed, I don't think any significant number of players will be upset, because they have much worse things to be upset about right now... Feels like FD is just being lazy.

Personally, I don't care much, thankfully I'm in a Viper club, and see no reason to own any Cobras, but having ship locked off like that just feels wrong, especially when NPCs can have it and players can't...

And you would still have people being upset about it being made available, since they where promised it to be an exclusive... I do think that most players who have it would not really care, but you still have to persuade the last ones that DO mind about it.

Like I have said before. FDev made a mistake here. they should have made into a TIME LIMITED exclusive, they did not.

What we feel about it is kind of a moot point. It was a promise they made to their customers. It's a lose/lose situation. It can't be fixed. But thankfully, it doesn't really need to be either. Let's just hope they don't make a similar mistake in the future. On the other hand, maybe it was profitable for them – rather sad, if true.
It was a move that created a storm, in any case.

The Cobra 4 is a mini-Python/Anaconda, without the speed of the Cobra 3. It's a great little mining/expedition/materials gathering ship. It also can't compete with the likes of the Krait's and Asp's. Frontier sold it as a Cobra, so expectations were smashed from the start.

As for the holy stone tablets promising exclusivity, even Frontier may have learned enough to never do it again. They probably won't release it into general circulation, for fear of the forum screaming.

If you want to get money from people, you have to give them a reason to. Exclusive content is a good carrot. Making that exclusive content non-beneficial is how you do right by all players so things aren't unfair to poorer players.

Complainers who want the carrot without paying the price are the problem, not exclusive content.

If fdev wants to do pre-orders for something they can't run out of ...they're going to need to give people a reason. What else do you suggest that it be?

edit: and keep in mind, there is a real monetary reason why companies love pre-orders. Float. Having that money early means making more off that money before incurring the costs associated with the product launch. Assuming there is the option to cancel prior to launch so they can't make use of the money to pay off costs already incurred. Much fewer players will opt-in to a pre-order if everything "exclusive" is only exclusive for a period of time or that nothing is exclusive at all. It costs fdev 0 dollars to ignore crybabies on a forum, it costs them actual money to ignore people willing to pay for pre-orders.

I don’t think it should be made available with Odyssey. I think it should either be made available to all players of any version, or left as exclusive.

I think also that making it available to everyone would please far more people than it would upset, and those who‘d get upset could get over it, just as those who cannot have one now can get over it as long as Frontier keep it exclusive.

Frontier don’t seem to have a problem making a change to the game that they think will please more people than it would upset (see FSS over ADS, individually owned FCs over Squadron owned FCs), so I don’t see what’s preventing them from removing the exclusivity of the CM4, other than an ill-advised promise from the past, or more likely the unwillingness to deal with any backlash over it.

I really stuggle to understand this obsession with getting a Cobra Mk IV... Is it just because it was limited edition and people feel like they've missed out on something? Because, let me tell you, as someone who can buy the Cobra Mk IV, you're not really missing anything... It's not that good a ship.

However, if they remove the exclisivity on that, why shouldn't they also remove all the rank requirements that mean you have to match certain achievments to get a ship? The requirement for the Mk IV was basically a game ownership rather than a grind, but it's the same thing. You have to meet certain requirements to own one, and if you don't you can't. Like I can't own a Corvette, and since I never intend to grind the rank with the Federation I will probably never own a Corvette. Does that mean I should start a thread to remove the rank requirements because I'm missing out on owning a corvette?

TBH I don't care one way or the other. I bought one, outfitted it, found better ships, sold it and have never even considered buying one again. I don't care if they remove the exclusivity, but I do think it would set a precedent to have all the other restrictions removed too.

Yes, it is exactly that. FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) is a big deal in marketing. I don't have access to the MKIV and I couldn't care less. This is from someone who has almost every ship in the game, fully engineered. I mean, it's not even good?

Imagine the salt if the FDL was a timed exclusive, though? :D

The MkIV situation is a no-win scenario. They can't let it excel at anything without alienating everyone who couldn't get it, and they can't open up access to it without alienating people they promised exclusivity to. Chalk it up to a bad marketing decision and move on.

Being a Lifetime Expansion Pass owner (and therefore having access to the Mk4) I have said many times in threads like these, that I do not care about exclusivity. My game is not enhanced in any way by denying others certain content. I am perfectly fine with giving everybody access to the Mk4.
You don't have the option to deny or grant others access to the Cobra Mk IV anyway. It's not up to you and never has been. People seeming to get upset by thinking other players are denying them a Cobra Mk IV (even going so far as to call them "Nazis" in this very thread, of all things) are really getting worked up over nothing for no legitimate reason. Welcome to the internet.

Not meaning to imply you necessarily think otherwise; just clarifying the reality of the situation.

Zero.

You would have thought that when Arthur confirmed that PS4 owners would not get access to the Cobra Mk IV that the threads of people asking for it would have stopped. But no, it goes to show that even when Frontier give concrete answers on something people still choose to ignore it.

You're making some pretty unwelcome assumptions. I've never seen any of the information you mentioned, nor any comments of posts by other players about the Cobra Mk IV.

Fair point. It can be difficult to remember that people are still individuals sometimes too. There have been several threads about the Cobra Mk IV's exclusivity in the past that not all players and members of the forum may be aware of.

Things I have learn't about myself today:

1) Somehow, without me realising it, I have become a . My credentials revolve around the shockingly horrific opinion that companies should honor the promises they make.

2) I have somehow managed to gain some kind of power/influence over FDev and am the sole reason that FDev have so far kept to their word. This power/influence makes me a bad person and probably a .

Things I already knew about myself but have been reaffirmed today:

1) My opinions are worthless and I shouldn't be listened to, because I like flying the gift FDev gave me for supporting them before they announced that they were giving away gifts.

Lesson of the day: Be very careful when buying things from companies, because at a stroke you could become a massively influential person that no one should listen to... and probably a .

(Joking of course! ;) )

This thread reminds me of this movie 👻
