Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Why are so many ships announced?
Simultanously with the new roadmaps announcement CIG reacts to frequent criticism: How can it release new ships regularly? As those are offered for real money Star Citizen has won a reputation for being a ship sales platform.

According to CIG the reason for this is pretty simple tho: Its easy and can be accomplished on the side. Telling the ship team to work on a prowler doesnt result in lots of discussions. Because it doesnt draw resources and effort from other aspects of the project.

If you want to decide if you want to flesh out the existing mining profession or implement the basics of a new profession you gotta prioritize. Because works to one affect the other negatively.
That section is such a joke. If they have a dedicated "ship team" then developing ships doesn't happen "on the side". We all know ships are the #1 revenue stream and vital to keeping the show on the road. They're trying to frame it as though these people (and how many of the 450 staff are involved?) use the occasional spare cycle to work on the odd ship here and there when they're not working on stuff that CIG can't reveal because spoilers, when what they mean is the whole core tech dumpster fire is holding up any meaningful progress on either game, so they have dozens of artists with nothing else to do.
Thanks for the translation!

Because reasons.
Why does that look like more fun than the PTU?
I can't help thinking all the ppl saying Odyssey will kill off SC are as wrong as all the ones says Odyssey is a complete turkey. Both should wait and see what it actually delivers (much as SC fanbois should look at what that currently is, rather than keeping pointing to some fantastical future version that never comes).
I think Agony's point (note the highlight) is less "praise FD" and more "*#@$ CIG".

yeah kinda reminds me of all the "this MMO will kill WoW" talk back in the days. Tho to be fair SC hasn been "alive" yet so cant really be killed eh?

Odyssey will have minimal impact on SC. There is nothing wrong with wanting to play multiple games and hoping for the best for multiple games.

Its just that many of us are skeptical CIG are capable of delivering on the hopes and dreams of backers.

Ok, serious question from someone who hasn't been following the development saga: is Star Citizen getting closer to being fully realized (or even "mostly" realized) or is it still mired down in development purgatory?
In the past few weeks they said they were working on a roadmap to their roadmap. They have since released an article and a JPEG of part of that roadmap.

They haven't completed the first star system yet. There are no planets or moons on the current roadmap for the rest of the year. Core tech items like iCache and server meshing are not on the roadmap so we have no idea when they will land. Overall progress this year has been slow.

early days my dude....early days. But supposedely its worth the 45$ entry fee (cant confirm, I expect a little more....value for that kind of money then some other people) and can provide fun if it checks your preferences. Thick skin and patience an absolute MUST, also dont get if you get easily triggered by bugs and gamebreaking glitches. Most of the things that would be present in a full game are still missing or exist in a barebone temporary state because CIG still needs to figure out how to do stuff.

Why does that look like more fun than the PTU?

Waste of Space is by far the best bit of Goat Simulator. If you're into sci-fi and gaming, it's an insane romp through so many universes and tropes... Star Trek, Mass Effect, Portal, Elite? You got it. Mining? You got it. Prison gameplay? You got it. Hover bikes? You got it, heck, you even have Segways. That's right. A space goat on a Segway. Stephen Hawking? You got it. Star Citizen? The entire map gets updated with new sections/features as you extort money from NPCs to unlock stretch goals through the Crowdkicker programme... 😂

It's just hysterical.

First time I see a vertically-rimmed canyon. A nice addition from the 3.10 heigthmap.

The video come from an org doing a race in the canyon with a surprise attack by an enemy of the group.
