Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Which most fanaticals try to flip on this thread as in "all you want is bash SC" which isnt true because A) praise and compliments are allowed B) positivity is allowed its just that neither last long with Star Citizen because as some people demonstrate amply, you need to really concentrate on looking at the shiny and ignore/disregard the ugly to remain that. But praise doesnt lead to a better environment or a gasp better quallity of product. It leads to cult-like behavior and manners as in religious matters. Criticism is absolutely needed in real life to bring things along and how "polite" that criticism is depends mostly on the tone of questioning. But it doesnt need to be polite in order to be true or legit. Of course acceptance of said criticism is difficult if its brought up in a rude or offensive way but we ve seen polite and restraint and very tactful criticism going absolutely nowhere regardless.

Instead I am eerily reminded of many real life situation I ve been in where my defensive and cooperative demonaer (I ve been told I have) actually encourages people to use strong language and become agressive towards me. I ve been in a few brawls which in hindsight might ve been avoidable would I ve stepped up a bit more forceful and determined to begin with /shrug.

But this is where the SC cult is at the moment. Be rude and people instantly disregard you because you aint polite enough. Be polite and you become the door mat and punching bag because people assume you are a female cat. The quality of your argument in either case is of no value and doesnt make any difference. You simply cannot reach these people with plain old logic anymore, Some people in this thread also show this very clearly and the more some of you try to pressure them into accepting and seeing the facts only makes them jump through higher hoops instead.

So why bother?

Because allowing these people free (unopposed) reign will result in chaos for everybody. Their unquestioning acceptance and tolerance already has lead to SC going off the rails to a degree that makes it unsavable in development terms. CIG was allowed to scope creep this project to insane levels because nobody was allowed to tell CIG what to do. "They know best" and "they actually know how" reigned supreme only that this never was the case as we discover now...when its too late.

If you hold your voice too long all you might end up in the end is recognition of a failure. But any chance for change will be long gone. I can see a lot of people fighting for change for years now....but they received no praise nor recognition for it. Instead they are called "haters" and "FUDsters" and being attacked constantly. And when that eventually stopped working because more and more people call the ugly turd a turd the fanatics withdraw into their echo shells and reinforce each other against cold facts and brutal reality. Their best hope today is that Star Citizerns development continues...notice its not "succeeds" but simply continues because as long as it runs it allows them to hope. Which isnt really important because as some have said already, even if it fails it will be remembered as the one true chance video gamming ever had. And it will fail because of all the hate and jealousy against it.

I do think that everybody, really everybody today realizes that Star Citizen isnt going anywhere. The signs and evidence for it is simply too obvious, clear and strong. But some people simply chose to disregard what they know and continue living in the dream.

There's only so many times you can say "Ok, it has nice graphics", which is the only real thing SC has going for it at the moment.

There's not much else to really praise.

The game as it is now isn't that different to how it was 2 years ago. Ok, they added caves and a prison planet and some other fripperies, but its still nowhere near being a decent releasable product, let alone the BDSSE.

Look at how much flack FD get for their devleopment speed on ED and compare how ED has changed over the last 2 years with SC, and look at what is coming for ED and SC (that we know of). And ED has around 1/5th of the employees and 1/10th (well, at a guess) of the budget that SC has.

Some backers will say most of the resources are going into SQ42, but a) they share a huge amount of code and assets and b) we actually have no evidence of what % of CIG's resources are going into SQ42 exclusively.

I don't think the people still playing SC realize that they're standing in the graveyard of a project that died many years ago. All that remains are desperate hopes and broken dreams.

And there won't be that much money coming in for long. It's the brutal time of the pandemic where the bare truths will come out. There isn't much room for illusions to thrive in anymore.

Just been browsing Spectrum and boy, they really are tearing each other apart over there.

The faithful acting like nothing is wrong that even negative things are really positive, while the negative people are not happy and getting into arguments with the faithful.

/r/sc is still holding fairly well. You have to dig around in controvertial to see a lot of the salt.

Over on /r/sc, someone posted this.

Star Citizen is something more than just a game.

I mean, you could do the same sort of list for NMS and ED as well if you wanted to expand the comparsion to silly levels.

If any backer asks on Spectrum about the whereabouts of the guy they pledged all their money to, their post gets deleted. :ROFLMAO:

Yeah, its kind of funny. Excuse given is people are probing into his personal life.

Erm, no, they are probing into his professional life, considering they have given him in excess of 300 million, and a lot of that money was given explicity because it was Chris Roberts and he made those promises.

Haha it's obvious. He's done a runner with the backer money.
90 days tops. :D

At the moment there is a very high profile arrest about a crowd-funded fraud. I do recall that the interest of the District Attorney of Los Angeles was piqued by Street Roller's refund. I do worry that something bad may happen to Star Citizen.

I like this new object persistence they have, and it is a very pretty game. If I wasn't interested in buying the game when it comes out then I wouldn't follow this thread

Best case scenario is he is heads down, all in, preparing the release of SQ42 beta, or failing that busy preparing a PR response explaining the delay.

Worst case tinfoil scenario is the investors have some kind of leverage or control on the development that has been triggered and CR is not in fact in full control anymore.

Worst case for who? For people who want a game to get released, that would hardly be the worst-case scenario...

Is it not permissable or reasonable to ask the CEO to make a statement given the current circumstances, not least the various rumours.

Remember all original backers have the legal right to publicly audited accounts from 2012-2015 and CIG have a legal duty to provide them. You just have to ask in the right way through the right channel.

What are the odds that Chris Roberts, a man whose grandiose plans are eclipsed only by his ego, would willingly not say a thing about his project in public for over 12months?

He's gone. It's Freelancer all over again.

"Haha, look at CR play his own game, its like he just seen it for the first time. He really doesn't care at all!"
"Wow, CR hasn't commented at all about the game he so clearly cares so much about, he must have been removed!"
"Yeah, I cannot think of any other possible explanation."
