Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

High poly count, sure, but the whole game suffers because of it!
It no good having all these pretty assets if looking at them tanks your framerate!?
The lack of high poly count assets in other games isn't due to the lack of ability to make them,it's their usability in a gaming environment.
For instance,in ED the designers of the ships have a poly count they must adhere to,i'm assuming SC put no such limitations on the developers.

ED: maximize poly count to a degree that ensures smooth and consistent gameplay
SC: maximize poly count no matter the cost or consequence

as long as you stay with the black text SC wins ^^

Hey, maybe the can put a lot of their "detail" into actually delivering their bogus dream stories or come clear and tell what the game really will be - instead of marketing lies.

Unfortunately that assumes that they have a clear and coherent vision for what the game is supposed to become.

My worry/suspicion is that the 'marketing lies' they are telling us are the same 'lies' some in CIG believe themselves, and that the 'dream' is too grand to ever be achieved.

On a positive note, 8 years in and almost 1 system complete, with only another 109 systems to go.

As you say, who gives a flying fig about the 'poly count'. We want a playable, stable game, with plenty to do and explore, that is a fun and rewarding way to waste time.

Poly count is like pixel peeping in digital photography. If that's what you're fixating on then you need to be taking better pictures.

It's a gravy train at this point, the years are rolling by,the pressure to perform is nonexistent due to the resounding success shown by the bank balance.
Pay rises, promotions and general backslapping will be commonplace.
And at no point will the movers and shakers want anything to change.
The more they fail to make a video game the more money they make.

Yes.They know they cant deliver and instead sell the perpetual game. Next release in tomortrow's roadmap update. Bag the cash while sulzing about some crap pulled out their rears. Look busy and have high polygon density and the gullible will believe.

You know, I think I'm going to side with @LittleAnt on this one. I think there's no denying that, visual detail wise, Star Citizen is much more detailed than nearly every other game currently out there.
Not true. MS flight simulator DSC and so on. Even Star wars SQ isn’t looking that bad. For the age of ED I fund it realy good and is getting better graphics over the time.

SSD streaming my rear. Didn't take a genius to figure out it's better to install DCS on my new SSD. It's not so detailed though. There isn't a flowerpot in every second window and there are actually no room systems in the houses. No piping either and no HVAC. I mean there is no people simulated either. Nor barkeepers. Such is the sorry state of DCS detail.
But I actually don't think anyone misses that while they zip past the scenery in their jets. Probably too busy trying to figure out the flight "models.

"Room System" my rear, too. Who thought that nonsense up? It also lacks the usual fancy namimg that is sported to supply the delusional grandeur. It should have at least been iRooms - they can't even come up with more bogus names anymore.

BTW, Oxygen Not Included has a very detailed atmosphere, liquid and thermodynamic sim. With heat capacity and conductivity and you can make the craziest things with heat, phase changes and !science!. Does have indeed piping. And venting. It's a 2D game, so the polygons are quite reduced.

Ah, there you are @Darkfyre99 - maybe you want to report about the room meshing in Space Engineers I know you were looking for a hull breach not long ago.. And the joys of finding something you put in a container again the next day. That is i-persistency at it's best.

What freefly?

Well I don't know about you guys but I'm raising my investment in SC spaceships. It is a 315M USD market after all, with an index beating 15% growth year on year for over 8 years. The only way is up. I just hope it is not too late to get in.

Kermaz, a grey market trader on the refund sub, says the market at the moment is very depressed.

ResetEra trip report!

TL;DR - 7 attemps to complete a mission end in failure.
