Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Well its good to see Force Reactions are in green and have moved up to 0%.

Lot more green on that one, nice to see the Disclaimer that nothing is accurate is the biggest text on the page.

I still cant derive a damn thing from it though, hope you all can...or are we expected to put our own dreams overlay on it and see what we want to see?

Its a mess of a write up, i would not recommened trying to read it. I think its fair to say that there are bigots in most companies and communities and judging the whole of CIG or their community based on the worst elements is not a good move. However, if CIG management are aware of such things and fail to take action, then they are culpable.

You're free to believe whatever you wish, however Chris has always stated that the game would be free to play once purchased.

People who assume the game will not bring in revenue make a lot of assumptions and forget that there are many optioons for selling 'flair' and such that could raise money. Squadron 42 Chapters 1, 2 and 3 are in development concurrently. They don't need to remake all the assets and tools Squadron 42 takes place in the same universe as Star Citizen, that's 3 single player campaigns and the multiplayer all of which will bring in money. They have the tools and assets to tell an unending number of stories within the game universe, they are not all necessarily about navy pilots perhaps.

They can sell addon modules such as Theatres of War, and they don't need to stop there, more Murray Cup Racing tracks, ground based racing tracks - you name it. If he wants to create a 1930's or Victorian era murder mystery weekend at a hotel in the game he can do that, and sell tickets for it. He's creating the Star Trek Holodeck, in the game universe... that's what the SimPods are, they don't just have to do 'ships and space combat they can put anything in them.

They can sell ship skins, player homes, in-game collectables - you name it, none of which would substantially advantage a player in the game. Every year we have the IAE which is held at a convention centre in the game, we also have the Chairman's Club Lounges and the Million Mile High Club. What does that mean? It means that they can gate off parts of the game so that only those who 'qualify' can access that part of the game universe - if they want to sell tickets for real money to in-game events like the IAE they can do that, they can sell tickets to the VIP boxes for the Murray Cup Racing and SataBall tournaments. They can also make other events and locations, they can create 'guest star appearance events' if they wish, you don't even need the guest stars to come into a studio, they can play via FOiP and VOiP from home. There are lot's of ways to raise money that wouldn't prevent a player from progressing in the game if they chose not to partake.

LucasArts owned the IP for Star Wars, 75% of the revenue earned by LucasArts from Star Wars was not in movie ticket sales, it was in merchandising and licensing - toys, branded goods etc. Mark Hamill is perfectly accustomed to seeing his character's face on bags of grapes, cauliflowers and cabbages, as well as Tee-shirts, school bags and pencil cases. CIG already offer merchandise and there will be more.

They can make their own in-lore, in-game machinima to sell TV/Movie episodes if they wish, Chris and his board partners all owned a movie production studio that was reasonably successful. Whatever Marvel and Disney can do, Star Citizen can do. Chris knew from the early days when he saw the funding take off in a way he never expected, he's not just 'making a game' he's building a franchise - a living breathing universe, that's why they had an all star AAA cast, and there will be more. The Calders are specialists in licensing and IP digital rights management, that's why they wanted in on the project. They wouldn't throw millions at a niche game that would fizzle out a few months after release. Frontier Developments already had a released 'space game' why go for a niche company that has no final release candidate yet? Chris knew exactly what he was doing when he insisted on a unified 1st and 3rd person rig, He knew what the potential was for a living breathing universe full of stories, that's why he insists on such high fidelity assets in the game and why he went to one of the premier companies in the world for live action CGI instead of in-house animators.

Don't worry about money for servers, that will likely be the very least of Cloud Imperium's problems, try not to think so small, this was never going to be a 'game' for a few months then half price sales forever on Steam until Star Citizen II comes out. We gave them the support to build an Empire and that is exactly what Chris is doing.

How to misrepresent the state of the game to all your friends to get them to buy Idrises 101

Log in ahead of time and figure things out before you plan a group event. Each patch in alpha will have its own issues and understanding those will help you avoid issues. Even so it is an alpha some bugs are left in because it isn't worth fixing them and will persist as a larger new feature is developed that will handle them, always expect bugs in this alpha.

Pick a ship that is large enough to carry several players if you have one available, but that you are comfortable piloting. Trying to fly something like a Reclaimer, while impressive, can be a disaster if you aren't practiced. Also my friend got trapped in the bottom elevator shaft during quantum, lol.

Upgrade that ship with a drive that is faster, but beware going for the fastest drive on a ship without as much fuel or you'll lock in a distant location and find you'll have to stop halfway to refuel. Practice flying to the different spaceports and learn the route from the habitats so you can help guide your friends.

Check out any gameplay loops you want to show off ahead of time. Even better if the loops take you too the newer planets/moons so you can show off the scenery, like Microtech. You might want to start with something simple like a delivery mission. Fly your ship down and have each friend grab a box and bring it back. You won't earn a lot of money, but your friends might appreciate something simple to start and they can take in the scenery and work together, plus the system easily splits the money instead of requiring the beacon method. Beacon method is easy too, and you'll want to understand it if you have something like a mole or cat so you can distribute earned credits evenly.

If you are going to do ship to ship combat you may want to upgrade your ship accordingly. Get some better shields that can take a beating. If you have two shield slots combine a high health shield with a fast recharge. Right now ships pop, so bringing the right gear to a fight is important. Then go and practice doing the missions and find some you can solo. If you can solo them you won't walk into certain death that leaves your friends scratching their heads.

When you pick up your friends get into orbit and get them synced to a station by landing. Then if there is a crash or bug they will be located at a much more convenient location. Do this when you hop between planet areas as well.

I'm sure there are plenty of tips I missed, hopefully you'll get some more good info.

Look at this FUD!

Had a pretty bad experience showing my friends SC, how can I salvage the experience for them? HELP

quote:

Then we all log in & wow we can group with a nice friends list in the upper right on the main screen now and launch as a group! This is great! So we do that and we're all at different spawn locations...38,000,000km from each other... getting 30fps or less (unlike im March 60fps+ which Is what I expected). Ok this is definitely not going as planned, ok no biggy let me just spawn my ship and get to you guys..well an hour later im finally on my way to too show off my ships. I finally get to lorville and I crash to desktop as im landing annnnnnnd spawn back on microtech 38mil KM away again..at this point everybody is motion sick from the low fps, nobody got to see my ships, we said screw it & all logged off.

If you ever find yourself thinking "just how much longer will it take for CIG to add everything", just look at this, and remember this is just one aspect of one system

I want to go on a 1930's murder mystery weekend, where do I sign up?

There may be a point about Calders expertise in licencing etc dont know enough to comment but would be an interesting take if true

I love the one which starts 'Free to play....but they can sell....everything including all the community events'

However, if CIG management are aware of such things and fail to take action, then they are culpable.
Their track record isn't exactly stellar, with the community managers banning the victims of bigotry for “stirring things up” rather than the perpetrators…
The head community manager being a personal friend of the perpetrator probably factored in as well. :D

Where do these people come from ??

The guy claiming to leak things that can't be proven is a "possible Elite Dangerous marketing guy" of couse we can't proove that, it's just come from a possible leak about the other leak. When there are two possible leaks that probably aren't true they cancel each other out.
