And the pretending to fly on the table is the warning sign that they should let you go and grab someone else? 😛
You gain extra brownie points for innovation and correct use of issued equipment. They don't 'let you go' from the army after you've signed up, no matter how mad you are...I had to get blown up to take early retirement...a bit more troublesome than a payout with a gold watch :D

They are so pinning their hopes in Vulkan. You have to wonder if the company who made SC with DX and an unoptimized mess will do better with Vulkan. Its not like there is some sort of rule that Vulkan can't be made an unoptimized mess either. Maybe the code whisperer himself is working on it!

Well everything else works great.

Time for those magic thumbs to get their Vulkan mind-meld on...

I don't say so.

To quote you again:

That's why CIG works on Vulkan and why they need it. ATM some graphical rendering is made by the CPU (because of the version of CE/LY they use). With Vulkan, they might be able to transfer a lot of those tasks to the GPU.

So, it isn't the reason they are working on. They might be able to? Maybe? Probably perhaps? But they could also do it by upgrading the version of DX they are using and optimizing the current mess.

Well it looks like Elite has motion captured bartenders.

I cant help but feel they put that shot in deliberately ;)

Don't worry - CiG has a trademark* on T-posing NPCs, so fdev can't steal all their work ;)

* probably :D

YAY! motion capped bartenders are good now!

D3D12 and Vulkan have enough in common that there have been (extremely niche) flame wars about who copied whom. Restructuring a D3D11 renderer to use one of them efficiently (and, let's be honest, removing the stuff that's still structured for D3D9) is approximately the same size of job.

So, in other words, CIG could have chosen to go either way. Thanks.

As for flamewars, how do you stand on monolithic vs micro kernels? :D

I'm getting a distinct vibe from that vid that 'on foot' and 'in ships' is 2 separate and distinct game modes...just the way it's talked about by the devs.

Oh hell yeah, they've said as much. If SC wants to do a pre-launch victory lap, they can seize on EDO not doing ship interiors ;)

(They might wanna shuffle the T-posing NPCs into an immersive cupboard in the meantime though ;))

Ah misread. Nah they can share a space too apparently (IE 'coordinate with teammates to master a multi-layered, deep, tactical environment where Commanders, SRVs and Starships converge' etc). They're gonna talk about shared combat spaces and the like in future vids. This one's more about the stations / ports being 'safe zones' etc. (And seemingly players being able to get lifts / never use a ship if they don't want too).

To stay on topic: Guess we'll see if they've added a railgun which can take down a ship ;)

I don't get that impression at all if you mean exit to menu.

Seems like there will be a fade to black as you exit and enter the ship.

We'll see...but it seems...from that vid...that the whole thing is a bit more convaluted than a simple fade to black whilst getting in and out of a ship. They talk about being 'transported to' the inside of a space station rather than what was shown in the background, simply walking in the door... like I said, we'll wait and see.

Nothing about exit to menu though.

And yeah, in space stations, i can see that happening. On planets, presume you will be able to get out of your ship anywhere and be directly outside your ship, otherwise it would make exploring on foot in the black impossible.
