New hotas from VKB - Gladiator NXT

I think im gonna hold out and see if any local places get them. That shipping is 1/3 the cost of the unit!
Anyone wanna do a group buy LOL.

well, my T16000 started doing the twist thing again. This one only lasted 4 months....
Looks like my hand has been forced. Purchased.

DHL has imposed a quota on how many they'll ship each week, so you should probably be happy you got Fedex instead.
Im gonna have to disagree with you on that one.
I have things shipped to me fairly frequently from China and Taiwan. Even during these times, DHL takes about 4 days to my door. Fed ex historically takes 2-3 weeks. Being that the shipping was 1/3 the cost of the item I was buying, the shipping method was a large part of my decision making.

I rescind all negativity.
Shipping was quick. Not as quick as the DHL I paid for, but not so long as to make an issue about it.
While I do wish they had not removed the buttons from the base. it is a non issue as this unit has more buttons overall than the T16000
Heres a short, poor quality first impression.

I really want to get one of these to replace my T1600.

I never actually want any buttons on the base of a stick, I want them all at my fingertips, so any of the complaints you personally had for this don't apply to me anyway.

Just have to pry open my wallet and brush the cobwebs away... I guess.

Interesting to see it in action. I wish I could try one out, since they changed the gimbal mechanism, and see if I noticed a difference. Those handle buttons go FAST. My right hat is for PIPs ( Eng/SYS/WEP/Reset = left/Up/right/down, and center press as all engine macro for escape ), middle is thrusters ( up/down/right/left, center press is reverse ), left is for menus ). Triggers are Primary/Secondary, Pinky is FSD, thumb is boost, side index is SCB... then on the base I have next target, target under reticle, landing gear, weapons retract, cargo scoop, throttle lever, SRV mode change, weapon group select, ...... the list is huge. I need those in VR. But I digress.

For me, I fly with one hand on the handle and one on the base, so it is a big deal to loose those buttons. But I am waiting on the base extensions before I make my final decision. If it's as good as it looks, I might be buying an NXT with the button pad extension.. I like the look of that combo,

Let us all know how it works out for you. Guaranteed it's an upgrade. I know I couldn't believe how nice it was after my last T16k.

I'm using the same grip as the NXT (Kosmosima GFIII- early birthday present from my wife). I'm having trouble thinking of what to do with the buttons! My last stick was a VKB Gladiator MK II with only two buttons on top, a pinky press and a hat.

I'm using the middle hat for pips, and right hat for targeting. I'm finding the pinky press on the new grip is a bit awkward in the activation (and the grip fits my hands perfectly otherwise), so that's my only complaint so far. I would use it as a mode switch but ... since I'm not even using the buttons I have now that's not a big deal.

I've spent so long on the Gladiator that I've moved almost all the button functions to the throttle long, long ago.

What kind of button layouts are people using?

I purchased a pair and am returning them because the twist axis sticks. VKB tech support told me to ask the forum about it. I did and was advised to buy some grease and regrease them. So I checked in with VKB support and they told me if I regrease them, I can't return them, and made no offer to correct my products. Their tech "support" forum just smeared me as a snob with too high expectations for not liking the twist sticking . . . on a $150 stick. Decent stick otherwise, too bad. I posted a vid review the other day.

(Assuming the twist and grips are exactly the same internally)
The spring definitely has a breaking force, though I haven't felt any stiction other than that. I've got my stick dialed in now where I want it, and here's what I did with the twist using VKB's software:

That completely sorted the issue for me. When I was testing it, I just found the stick to be far too sensitive on the twist in Elite. If one was of a mind, I'm fairly certain you could find a weaker spring for it and just do a replacement: https://www.mcmaster.com/springs/torsion-springs-5/

I do fly full FA-OFF all the time though, so precision is my world and thus I like strong springs. The X-Y axis I just gave a very slight nudge of a curve in the software and found them to be perfect (after switching out the cams for Soft Space Cams and increasing the springs to #30. Not sure what NXT offers in that regard).

LOVE LOVE LOVING all the buttons on this guy. Never taking my hand off the stick for incidentals (like landing gear, etc) is just really nice in VR. I also expected there to be a bit of a learning curve in building up my muscle memory, but jumping into a CZ in my favorite ships was just like riding a bike. My precision is noticeably better and I haven't even fully broken myself into the set up yet.

It has nothing to do with the joystick's response curve, or lack thereof, the twist mechanism physically sticks when rotated slowly. Likely a grease issue with my sticks.
