Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

To be fair, I remember on the old Frontier Developments website there was a page for Elite 4 from about 1998-ish.
To be even fairer, if you're going by the “some guy mentioned plans” as the most massively ignorant, idiotic, and divorced from reality definition of “being in development”, SC has been in development for 23 years by now going by how Chris Roberts tells it.

I started playing Vendetta Online to get my Elite fix, waiting for Elite 4 while following everything I could find about it. That was early 2000’s
That doesn't really matter, now does it?

Just to be sure, you do know which number is higher, right?

That’s why we are 12 threads in here, right?

No we are 13 threads in because Star Citizen is the industry joke that keeps giving :) the first couple of versions had been used to establish a baseline, going back and forth between fascination, hope and crushing reality. Lots of salty tears were shed and the moderator team has cursed our all names many a times. Quite a few bans and many many infractions have been handed out before we all learned "how" to do it. Since than its been keeping an eye on Star Citizen, the development project and arguing its...oh why do I even bother? Newbies like you will never understand 😂

So hilarious that only in ED forums you find 12 threads about it ;)

You think? Its astounding what you can achieve when you provide a neutral platform that allows all voices without giving the screaming horde of SC fanatics the option to mass downvote or shout unliked opinions/views into submission :) Many people have tried but its pretty impossible to kill this thread when the bully tactics of the SC shills dont work eh? :) Frustrating I know but dont fret ^^

Ho I know them. But 120 000 posts just from the community of one game is an ED's exclusivity. The NMS, X4, Astroneer, etc communities are way less worried about CIG and SC.

Awww its only really a fraction of that number. We just go through repetitions because so many SC fanboys dont read at all and regurgitate every single thing countless times or make it a hobby to be difficult. Allowing these kind of people to participate increases the post count dramatically. Have you noticed how its always JUMPING several pages when another joker tries to troll or provide some "expert insight" defending poor poor little CIG?

It’s even funnier once you realize most of the posts are only from a hand full of guys

Exaggeration of course but I find it immensly funny how you whine about this thread always posting the same yet you yourself are a one-trick pony who cant help himself but ride the same routine every single time 😂

It’s funny that you think that worry is the driver. But then these are the type of giggles that SC keeps on giving ;). (Oh no SC, please don't threaten to become a game some more! I... I don't think I could take the worry 😳...)

A few obvious reasons for this forum having a history of mega-threads is that ED went into kickstarter concurrently with SC, and is still chugging along in parallel. There's always been a lot of cross-pollination between the playerbases.

One advantage it has over the likes of Spectrum and the subreddit though is that dissent and criticism of SC aren't verboten here (as they often were there for many years), and downvotes / 'moves to concern' (and periodic abuse) can't be used to smother those debates. Hence it's proved a logical stop-off point for any of the above fans who've fallen out of love with the project.

NMS launched in mid 2016 and doesn't even have a forum, just the subreddit, so accruing a megathread is pretty impossible. (Plus they've always had their own mega-dramas to keep them busy ;))

X4's releases have had an on-off cadence over SC's lifetime which may explain the lack of a parallel hive of villainy there. (It also seems to be a quieter forum from what I can tell, but I'll leave it to you to count the individual posts ;))

Astroneer launched in Dec 2016, and so also doesn't really have that concurrency aspect with SC. (2017 was the year of 3.0 absolutely not happening, and is considered something of an infamous dead zone for exciting content no? And in the intervening years SC has pretty much fallen out of mainstream press altogether. Maybe Astroneer players just don't even know it exists ;))

---

I dare say some here are driven in part by the 'great rivalry for the ages' that you're intimating. That it's an 'ED vs SC' thing. It's not for me personally, I find that tribal stuff daft. It doesn't seem to be the case for plenty of others here either. Both games are interesting because they're similar space games, and it would be good to have decent games in that genre. But both ultimately stand or fall on their own merits.

Personally I've spent the vast majority of the last 4 years not playing Elite. For me this is just a convenient place to chat about SC. (Which I pass through fairly regularly, while checking whether ED has become a game I want to start playing properly again ;))

But as always, thanks for bumping the thread. It means more wayward travellers can drop by. And more noobs can learn of the marvels of SC :)

Succintly and Fritz in the same sentence? 😂

They really are the Angela Lansbury of this thread.

I always imagine this happening when the residents of this thread see someone post something that suggests they like or enjoy SC.

I only get defensive when people say its better than something else or astounded if they say its a well managed project that looks after its customers or their money..

I imagine the first 11 threads were full of 'Just you wait til SC comes out, ED will be dead then!' and if it follows the usual pattern the threads are always busy until the game actually comes out coz then its measurable so theres nothing to talk about.

Also we get quite a few people here who have been banned from Spectrum for speaking their minds, some dont even play ED at all (until Epic ;))

Add in a 40-60% repetition rate of the same old debunked statements being used again 3 months later, the latest Jesus tech debunking, the constant retcon of who promised what when or didnt promise anything at all, the best from Reddit and SA, The Agent leaks, occasional cameos and the major fact this is the only SC thread on the forums unlike some others and the fact its been going on for years and you get 12 Threads easily.

Just be glad Fritz puts it all in one post rather than splitting it up or youd be on double that now :)

The Bitconnect rubes said we "haters" feared drastic changes they'd bring to the financial industry. The EEStor acolytes said we skeptics feared radical change in the energy storage industry.
Some of SC sides peoples arguments remind me of discussions with certain OneCoin fans.

Hey, don't mock this thread folks, it's been comedy gold now for eight years. It all under one roof so its easy to keep track of. I enjoy playing the occasional ham actor role, sometimes serious, sometimes trying to be funny, but likely not succeeding. I am far from being an SC hater, I am just an eight year confirmed skeptic, I like the idea of the concept, but the only way they will achieve it is to cut back on the dream crafting and get real. Trouble is they need the money.

My feeling with the road map is that it forces accountability internally. The issue isn't presenting it to the faithful, the faithful will buy it and accept the delays. However their investors will not. I am also of the opinion that production is going to move more and more to Turbulent.

If they cut their losses and built a front screen hub so that you logged into the hub and you could then connect to each reachable system from the hub. When you connect it creates a new game instance (server) and going back to the hub would then give the systems reachable from that system. All the connect to a system needs to do is port you to the system in some sort of loading screen depending on whether you are travelling by ship or simply waking up in the system you were previously in. That way Turbulent could build new systems and the game could be extended whilst forgetting all the miracle tech. Retain a group to churn out a new ship every 3 months and the faithful will throw 50M a year to give the time to create SQ42.

My dear LittleAnt - I doubt many people are worried about CI-G and SC.

Many of us backed SC, and have expected to recieve the goods.

It's nearly 2021 - and there's no sign at all of anything approaching what I could; even in complete darkness, with a following wind, dressed as Bagman and weighed down with a heavy handbag overflowing with ranta dung - vaguely recognise as either of the two games that Genuine Roberts owes us.

the fact that you were waiting Elite 4 doesn't mean it was in development. I even did and remember that the delusional posters in the elite 4 thread were theorycrafting about if and when FD would start the development and they said "no way before the release of the outsider".
