This is a warning to all other credit hungry cmdrs ,


There I was siting in the station looking at the mission board and then I saw it, an awesome Source and Return mission for 50 million!!!!!! For only 1k of cargo!!! I thought that’s really cool so I got my t9 and got to hauling , Too bad I didnt read the fine print of the mission were the 1k of cargo I needed was gold. All that gold costed me more than 50 mill , I lost like 10 mill😭😭😭


Before you ask , yes I looked for the lowest selling station and nothing was below 48k with in 50 lys.


Man I really wish the devs actually played their game 😔

Where were you? I was trading gold for a fair part of last week at 34k/ton

I've done a few like this, but in every case i made good profit.

Maybe the market was just bad for you.

Take mission. Realize your error. Buy sidewinder. Switch to Sidewinder. Abandon mission. Get umpteen million fine on Sidewinder.
Self-destruct sidewinder. Chose starting sidey.

Profit. (Ok no profit, but no loss either...)

Still a silly design tho and I hope gets fixed in the balancing. Imo wing missions should have their pay bumped but then have pay split between wing members but with possible time bonuses. That way they make sense, are doable by all AND still have incentives for playing in a wing.

If I order 50t of bricks for a building project I don't care how many lorries they come in and I don't expect to pay triple if they come in 3 lorries. I MAY be prepared to pay for for fast delivery tho

No, it used to be fine but it looks like the mission reward cap of 50m was overlooked by fdev when they changed everything recently.

It is important they know about this so they can adjust the mission cap to accommodate their change. It's less important that we point out pointless stuff that has nothing to do with that fact because it boils down to "don't do that mission", which is anti game and misses the entire point of fdev asking us to give feedback following their changes.

Hope the big bold front helped to get that through.

Depends on the commodity and amount. I tried to mine the 200t of Gold for, huh, Lei Cheung (?) and I stopped after a couple hours and 135t or something.
You're definitely not gonna mine 1k of Gold, there's no hotspot for it and even if there was, anything short of 2-3 overlapping ones would be way too time-consuming anyway.

I'm surprised OP lost money on the other hand, after the mining changes the Source & Return missions were borked for a couple of days (credits rewards were barely half of the mineral/metallic commodities cost) but that has been fixed.

Edit : my bad, forgot the 50m hardcap on cr rewards, that explains it.

Seems to me like it's working as intended.
From what I can see, you chose a wing mission to do on your own and didn't look past the payout.
I suspect if you did it in a wing, you and your wing mate(s) could have shared the burden of cost and the hauling of the Gold. Saving yourself millions of credits and you and your wing mate(s) would get the same reward of 50,000,000 credits each upon completion.
And also mining the Gold (in a wing) would further save on the cost of the Gold, but mining it is just an alternative option to buying it.

This is all true. The only difference being that about two weeks ago the cost of that same gold would have been a lot less than the mission reward cap of 50m, which fdev forgot about when they rebalanced the prices of stuff just the other week. So, two weeks ago the op would be guaranteed a profit irrespective of how they sourced the gold.

Given they did not balance trade or sourcing missions, this is obviously an oversight. So we can work around it yes. But I'll bet fdev want to know about stuff like this because...

IMO The mission cap is definitely out of date.

Also some of the mining missions also make no sense now either.

eg. There is a mission to mine 25 (insert Commodity here) for a reward of 2,000,000 million credits, but you can sell (Same commodity) in the market for 5,000,000 credits. What do you do, Sell or do the mission? :unsure:

If it's any comfort, you're not the first.

These missions are meant to be flown by groups.

Always check the approximate cost of cargo, indicated in the mission briefing.

Also if you can, use eddb to find the cheapest source.

Those ate made to be played in wings, so the more you are, the less you each pay for the cargo.
