So, how many of the Epic players have stuck around?

A better question would be, were any of the free epic accts sold even new players at all? Or is it just fake numbers pretending to be new players when its really all just people who are already playing the game and don't really mean anything at all statistically.....
I reckon it's at least doubled and likely more than that the number of total active players, based on what I've seen of system traffic reports and other activity indicators.

Some of that will be "I've got an new alt or six, better play more than I normally would to build them up" but very unlikely to be all of it.
(The Fuel Rats probably wouldn't be so busy rescuing alts, for example)

Almost every player chatting in the newbie district were new players when I passed through.

There will have been thousands. How many reach here (which I'm guessing quite a lot of us here see as all that counts :D) is likely a lot fewer.

I’m a new commander that got the free version from the Epic Games Store and I am still cruising around. Focussing on exploring for the moment.

I'm sorry but no, you're clearly playing the game wrong and are failing to meet or exceed the minimum Credits per Hour (CPH), as set by the Elite Dangerous Forum. Please set course for the nearest star-base to receive instructions on meeting your CPH quota.

Seriously.....welcome to the madhouse. :) (y)

If something is free it's not quite satysfing or engaging as if some1 pays money for it I guess. I paid full wack for both base and horizons back in the day when base was £24 and horizons £30ish or somin stupid... and its my most played game on steam with 1800hrs... second place is barely 700

Alot of ships still pay 5-15k in top right of screen and all seem to get 4x multiplier in left nav transaction tab. I have yet to see a bounty get above 4x in the transaction tab compared to the top right for the normal and high res extraction sites I have been collecting bounties in.

That's not working right then. Weren't those small bounties supposed to be x6?

Wonder how many will be here once odyssey drops? Huge initial in flux followed by zillions of posts, poor fuel rats breaking more records + everyone doing first achieves namely new flora fauna etc.
I've changed.... was into Building warships and raising hell.
Now I'm out in the black. And intend to stay there.
Metas credits bah all be damned seeya

Fuel rats are still around? IIRC they're the guys who deliver fuel to stupid people who run out in the middle of nowhere, right? ( I mean, no offence, but if you're planning to take off on a journey and don't have a fuel scoop / check you can reach another fuel star before running out, then there's something wrong.)

I actually know of two folk who got it free on Epic, then went over and bought it on steam cheap as they prefer having all their games there and plan on playing for a bit, so as a marketing tool I'd say it worked.
One had been thinking of trying Elite for some time anyway and hadn't got around to it and the other was someone who was fed up waiting on star citizen and is also a no mans sky player and was looking for a change.

Think about what it was like when you started. Its exactly the same just no progression. Would you have stayed around?

EDIT: Actually, that's a bit shallow. I think the biggest modern difference.. is high jump range. I wonder if people will experience the wonder of the bubble anymore. That's the biggest difference. Maybe you don't need scale because its all same same anyway. Don't know. There's no such thing as "i want" and "far away" anymore.

No offense but you really have absolutely zero clue what the new player experience is like. To a new player in his E-rated sidey a 100ly still is a long trip, and they see new stuff all the time. Far more often than we did. The game is far deeper and richer, and new players have our first impressions but better.

You are simply projecting your jaded mindset on others. Rest assured: they are not burdened with it.

There's a surprising number of people who run out of gas (petrol) in real life.

Since Fuel Rats are about to hit the 100,000 rescue mark, I'd say they offer a service to a genuine need :)

And you do? You're equally project fantasy forgetting all the challenges we had before finding community resources. Be less rude and look at yourself next time.
