The Book of Commander Sisko (probably not coming soon to Elite Dangerous Odyssey)

Makes me wonder how Mobius is going to handle Odyssey. Will a commander be identified by his squadron? Will Mobius members have a secret sign that identifies one another? Will there be a key for making an o7 gesture, as opposed to .....

So many questions 🙋‍♂️

OMG if they dont have a salute animation I want a refund !

Edit 1: The config option should just be "o7 - [Bind a Key]"
Edit 2: I also want Hero Landings for the jet pack !

Damn right I'm greedy, its Xmas. Blame The Mandalorian for being too good*.

*I also lay claim to all the incoming Star Wars TV spin-offs, as well as previous/current Sci-Fi classics like nBSG, Firefly, all the Stargate shows, Dark Matter and The Expanse.
You can't have Dark Matter, I've already got alts named after characters from that franchise, and I've got ships named after characters from the expanse. I also think Artie at Inara' got dibbs on firefly, having named his website after the luscious "companion" hooker character in firefly. @Han Zulu would probably want to arm wrestle you over the starwars franchises, @Old Duck probably has dibbs on doctor who, but you might be in luck with Battle Star Galactica?

Christmas is over, old pal, time to stop quaffing Lavian Brandy and Kongga Ale and get back to business... There must be a lot of missions awaiting my kind attention following the drunken debauchery of the past few days 🥳

(I sent the new piccy on Boxing day - it must have changed in the last hour or 2!)

Oh I totally agree mate, I just like to point things out, in the way that toddlers do when they get to the age to make you feel very self conscious! Some people say I haven't grown up since then, but they shut up when I throw tantrums....!

Ps still plenty to quaff my dear old thing ;)

But without video evidence of this I was essentially told I was lying... The reporting system is that good 🤷‍♂️
Video was implied. It's kinda pointless submitting a report without it, or very strong alternative evidence, for obvious reasons.

Journal extracts can help under some circumstances, but are mainly of use when a player's ship has been destroyed ("Died" / "KillerName: CMDR*" events). Interdictions ("Interdicted" / "IsPlayer" events) followed rapidly by a series of "HullDamage" events without actual destruction can also be a strong indication of shenanigans but obviously this doesn't apply to Conflict Zones where there are no interdictions and damage is coming in from everywhere.

Video capture is always best, if available.

If we're going the FPS route then....ok then. I want to walk into a remote outpost, eliminate the criminals inside, and then claim the outpost and criminal empire as my own with my SLF pilot as my trusty sidekick. Maybe form a squadron to defend the outpost from unwanted visitors and undercover agents from all concerned superpowers.

Maybe create a real black market and not the underdeveloped version we have now. You want landmines? I can provide. Battle weapons? Of course sir, its 'buy two, get one free' week here. What's that? Incoming Dropship with Federal Agents? Ok boys, arm yourself with the plasma weapons.

It won't happen......but I can dream, right?

This post DEFINITELY needs a spoiler warning

TL;DR - Carebears need spaceship dashcams?

"Dear Mr Mobius.

I would like to make mention, that whilst having a beer at the local bar on the Moon, some cheeky swine shot me in the left buttock with a reverberating cascade gun. Needless to say, there followed a reverberating cascade of biowaste, and now I have very stained flight pants.

Please look into this for me, as it certainly is not cricket, where I am from. I am not certain if the guilty party, as there was a small group of rotten looking swines at work. I have my suspicionometer on me though, and I fear it was the work of @Rubbernuke .

Please kindly chastise this fellow for me, and inform him that I'd like to repay the favor in kind.

Yours brown-trouserly,

Cmdr D Braben"

Seems to be lots of emphasis on suits, so I'd like to suggest that players in Odyssey don't actually get bounties, they get their victim's dry cleaning bill instead.

o7... we're still out there commander! 🖖
"Out there" meaning Beagle Point? I've been all over the bubble for years, only ever encountered one other person and he was returning from the black at the time and I encountered him at Farseer.

This is what happens when your bowels are not double braced. Not that it was me, I'm more of a shoelace tying guy*

and then shoot them.

... and signed depositions from 92 independent witnesses, security footage from at least 18 sources and a pinky promise to not tell lies...

Shame your were silly enough to use carebears as an insult, isn't it?
(I had to be careful there not to be insulting as I recall a very 'carebear' moment when someone got mortally insulted because of my use of the term 'braveheart' :ROFLMAO:)

From what I've seen so far they're not going down the FPS route. Sure shooting maybe involved if you want it to, but as they've said a number of times it will be optional, also from what I can tell they don't intend to remove the spaceship flying part of the game and using your legs will be purely optional, so how it's becoming an FPS I don't know.

As to what you want, that's not ED. Maybe you should be starting petition to have star wars galaxies started again.

The episode in question aired 2 weeks ago on Disney+. The section I'm talking about is only known due to people watching after the credits.

Oh, I know it will be optional. My issue is that the development time to work on FPS isn't optional, and perhaps could have been spent on other, long standing issues in the game, or even EVA. But if their going down the FPS route (and of course they are), why not go further with it and add some UPS to it, compared to other FPS games?

Until the DLC is in our hot, sweaty, paws we don't know exactly what has been 'fixed' with the 'refreshed' code to make any valid appraisal of Odyssey. The expansion development time has been spent on content Frontier consider will sell copies (as I'd guess that over 2 years of development has to at least pay for itself) as well as compliment the game.
Why not wait, impatiently, until we get the chance to actually play with Odyssey? There appears to much more than just shooty-pew stuff to engage with.

Odyssey will be just as much a shooter as the main game is.

Do you call the base game a space shoot em up game? Stop calling it a FPS, because it's not. From what I can tell it's fully integrated into the main game. FPSers don't allow you to get into a ship and fly anywhere you want to. It's like calling GTA or RDR1 and 2 a third person shooter, which is equally ridiculous.

As to EVA it's in. Just not in space from what I can tell, but I fully expect that to be added at some point. They needed to start somewhere and this is how they have started, where most of the gameplay will be.

I also fully expect them to work on the space parts of the game after Odyssey is released. They themselves said that wouldn't stop.

But they needed to sell an expansion to get funds in. They can't sell an expansion on stuff that's already in the game.

I'm very happy with what they've added so far, would I like more, sure, but I have to be realistic. It's only been 2 years with a team of 100 or so. That's not many developers or time. From what I have seen so far they have done a lot more then I was expecting. I'm impressed.

Interesting comment - and not quite correct...

I do play in Mobias occasionally and had one CMDR shoot me in a CZ as was on the opposing side... (I followed the rules and jumped out to SC) But without video evidence of this I was essentially told I was lying... The reporting system is that good 🤷‍♂️
As you are part of a very exclusive squadron of gankers, I surely can see why the word of a random Mobius CMDR is more worth then yours.

Also always use shadowplay.

I only ever record stuff deliberately, perhaps I should enable the 5 minute rolling bit...

True, it was Ratkatcher :ROFLMAO: Maybe his reputation went before him...
(I was informed that there are Mobias 'griefers' who will shoot other players in the hope that they retaliate as they record everything...)

Fact: Development work has been done on FPS content for a DLC package. I'm not calling all of Odyssey a FPS, or the main game even. All I'm saying is legacy issues exist (Megaship Piracy broken since April!) and it would be nice to see them fixed before new content (and related bugs) get released.

And if EVA could be added, I'd like that too. Along with me taking over bases. Because I'm greedy. :)

Oh for sure, more Dev Diaries to come. As I've said elsewhere, I eagerly await to see what other professions benefit from Odyssey besides combat.

FPS stands for First Person Shooter. Odyssey is not a first person shooter. It is an expansion for a game we already have, it is not separate. Have they done work on combat for the first person perspective section of Elite Dangerous, well of course they have. If they didn't it would be like releasing the base game without any weapons or a means to fight, and considering Elite has always had combat in it I don't see the issue.

Has the Elite Feet section of the game got a combat element, well it would be stupid not to.

Yes, legacy issues exist, but most aren't major problems and the game is perfectly playable regardless. But it would be nice if they fixed them but fixing legacy issues does not sell an expansion, which they need to do if we want the game to continue.

Personally I would prefer them to work in the expansion and fix some bugs, which I expect to happen when it releases. Whether it's the bugs you want fixed is another matter. They just recently fixed the mining scanner issue, so they are still looking into these issues and not ignoring them.
