GALNET - 29 DEC 3306 - Lakon Spaceways Faces Financial Collapse

Should I buy an Asp Scout before it’s discontinued? I do so love trying stuff with anti-meta ships...

If you want to try it out, no better time than with it 'on sale'. Also if you are based in LYR space or at Jameson's, extra discount is good too. I passed on the Asp Scout and DBS, but there are definitely non meta builds that look interesting for those 2 ships.

Predicting Lakon will get taken over by the Alliance as a military shipyard and a lot of heads will roll, creating a rift between Alliance and Federation. The tensions will motivate fleet command to formalize military ranks for independent pilots and they will roll out militarized Lakon ships to match the other powers.

Looks like:

1. Cobra MK4 monthly threads will be getting additional content!
2. If the thargoids poke back for real, the alliance will be horribly unprepared and get desperate to purchase new ships. Maybe that's the Rochester greedy end game with this?

GALNet 04 Jan 3307 : Lakon creates Independent spinoff, which will start selling new Designs soon

As of today and days prior to the Core Dynamics takeover being finalized, Lakon has announced a spinoff corporation which will begin production of competitive new designs in the next months. This new corporation will not be part of the Core Dynamics deal and remain independent.

While the name of the new corporation is not yet revealed, there's already leaked sales material circulating which has greatly surprised analysts.
Ship Designs such as "Boa/Constrictor" (indicating two variants), a "Starboat (Moray)", "Gecko" and a so-called "Panther Clipper" are already subject to wild speculations.

Core Dynamics could not be reached for comments but an anonymous Federal Source familiar with the matter stated :
"Officials in the highest Federal command chain are furious about this surprise move from Lakon. It appears as if Lakon made a last-ditch attempt to protect and exclude numerous Prototype Designs from becoming part of the takeover.
Already running production lines indicate that the Alliance might have made a brilliant chess move and was a key factor behind this bold move."

Interesting, particularly with Odyssey so near!
I've been following the 'story' with some interest so am looking forward to whatever the next few weeks brings.
Yes. I'm wondering if there will be new ships coming out with Odyssey. Maybe a mashup between the two manufacturers designs.

Lakon is quality.
Lakon is life.

Nothing better than using my Type 9 and hopping on the GalaxyHAM radio..... except maybe CQC

some other company will just buy the rights to make lakon ships. It's not like the manufacturers have exclusive technology they imbue their ships with. Unless the market just doesn't exist for a model, it'll be worth it for another manufacturer to continue building them.

This is like being concerned about one paper company going out of business when there are still other paper companies. Paper will still be made. Fdev has given us no reason to care about manufacturers outside of the IP they own.

Apart from the Anaconda hull being made of magic fairy dust.

and unfortunately, that's not some in-game lore thing. It's just because fdev refuses to re-balance the ships since SLF's were released so big ships behave like big ships that can't dogfight and small ships behave like small ships that can't solo big ships like they're basically the same size.

edit: it would be worth caring about if the companies did have some kind of modifier to their ships that was linked to their identity / role and that would be lost / changed if the ship changed manufacturer. We dont even see the ship yards where these manufacturers exist. For all intents and purposes, all ships are 3d printed at the stations they're sold at. Literally all the manufacturers provide is the rights to do so. Most are patent trolls riding off the work of designers who died hundreds of years ago.
