Large ships docking at outposts.

It would be really cool if Frontier introduced a shuttle hangar bay for large ships, where the shuttle has 4 tons of cargo space, can land at small landing pads on outposts and stations, transfer data, and take missions. With Odyssey on the way, it could be used to easily land near hostile outposts so you can get out, do the mission, and get back into the shuttle to fly up to your large ship; I can't really see someone going into a stealth mission flying a Corvette or a Cutter, so having a small shuttle that is about the size of a fighter to stealthily fly in would be really nice.

If the Exopod was implemented into the game, maybe this would be one of the things it could be used for.

Nah .. it is almost perfect the way it is. A single ship shouldn't be able to get 99% of the job done in 99% of the game. I would go actually one step forward and create more game content that is 'small ship exclusive'.. Like super small outposts for small ships or missions that can be done only with a small ship.. This will give me more reasons to play with my Cobra MK3. Right now I take either the FDL or Cutter for most of the game. Diversity of ships played should be encouraged.. not limited.

I think there are ways to satisfy both, to some extent.

Add more locations that can only be accessed directly by small and medium ships (or even just small), but add ways to allow larger ships to access limited services there, but make doing so a bit of a ballache. If you're setting out with a plan, you outfit the right ship for the job; otherwise you can visit at the cost of time, effort and limited access. That's nuance. That's good imo.

Maybe if EVA is ever a thing, we can park our Anacondas and spacewalk across to the Outpost.

Kudos for ballache - that is now on my list of things that get past the filter! ;)

Many of outposts have gantries and other structures that look like they were specifically intended to service large pad vessels.

The NPCs already do :D If you are ever attacking a base which has parked security, sometimes the tiny base will spawn a large ship.

Always think in the other direction too.

we need stations that have HUGE Pads for carriers and stations that have no small pads (and dont allow those sideys to dock on medium).

every improvement mus always make the game more difficult.

I have two suggestion for this:
1- a smaller fleet carrier, with less cargo space, less jump range, that can be purchased by players AND used by NPCs as mobile stations (always on the move in pre-determined routes) These fleet carriers would only have small landing pads.
2- a small sized courier ship that can be used in the place of an slf. No hardpoints, no cargo/passenger space, but can be used by big ships to dock at a station and deliver data/missions/bounties. Small shields for bumpers, paper-thin hull. OR, it could have a hybrid cargo/passenger space of 2t, for special mission cargo (black boxes, VIP passengers)

I would definitely like to see Large Ships at Outposts allowed at least for Odyssey purposes. We can assume they can only connect by an umbilical or docking port, thus preventing cargo, but allowing a CMDR to board an outpost in person for some other business. Maybe an option below Request Docking that says Request Boarding - Fly to within 2.5 km and go stationary and you'll be FTB transitioned to the Outpost on foot.

Or a bonus setup, allow shuttles to fill the Fighter Bay, make them like SRVs with perhaps a 2t cargo bay, and no FSD. Mothership can be dismissed or recalled just as like the SRV. These shuttles can dock at small landing pads on the Outpost. If you transition to on foot, the ship automatically dismisses. This would make it untenable for mass trades, but still allow for some small goods to be transferred if you picked up any on the way, like occupied escape pods, random salvage, or exotic goods. Hell, I'd devote a fighter bay slot to it.

Just fly a medium combat ship? Totally suitable even up to high CZ. Alternately, go to the station in a medium ship, take massacres and stuff, go get your conda, go fight, go back to a small ship, dock up, cash bonds/massacres. This isn't really a dealbreaker...

It is flat stupid to be of the future and have docks incapable of interaction without options. Whoever makes these decisions needs logic Interdictions!! The person who implemented or was unaware should be wearing tea and crumpets on the front of their shirt!

Seeing as this is a major necro, I'm going to use it to brag about my carrier which lets me use any ship I like anywhere I like. I just rock up to within 6ls or so of the destination (either the mission system or the target), switch to a medium ship when I need to get or hand in missions and switch back to do the stuff.

I reckon the only issue with large pad access is the T7.
