Galnet Update - 15/01/3307 - Lakon update

UNCERTAINTY HITS TAKEOVER OF LAKON SPACEWAYS
The purchase of shipbuilding company Lakon Spaceways by Core Dynamics is in doubt after allegations of illegal business practices.

Irfan Karim reported on the recent developments for The Alliance Tribune:
“The Independent Commission for Market Equality has confirmed that several Lakon shareholders sold their stock to shell companies, which were covertly established by departments within Core Dynamics. Furthermore, two serious accusations of blackmail have been referred to Alliance Interpol.”

“Trent Delaney, Lakon’s newly installed chairperson, has dismissed these claims. But coupled with serious rumblings from the Council of Admirals over losing a military supplier, this hostile takeover now looks less certain.”

In the Federation, the newsfeed Sol Today ran an editorial piece on the situation:
“Acquiring Lakon is another bold triumph for manufacturing colossus Core Dynamics. It’s a shame that it’s being undermined by the petty bureaucrats of the Alliance, who should be gratefully grasping this financial lifeline.”

“It’s also laughable that CEO Jupiter Rochester, one of our titans of industry, is being stabbed in the back by old-fashioned colleagues who are clearly jealous of his success. Perhaps his ‘Jupiter Division’ has finally outgrown the corporation and deserves to forge its own path.”

Dammit... seems like the two of us had the same idea simultaniously this time around. 🤪

I will say it again, Jupiter Division will be produce the new Panther Clipper, perhaps it will move over to Lakon from Core Dynamics to produce a new line of ships starting with the Panther Clipper?

Well we know more arms manufacturers are coming (who make the laser rifles etc) so its not crazy to think we might see some corpo action pop out a new ship.

This is the best news I have seen all week.
SAVE LAKON!
Lakon is love!
Lakon is life!

BUY MORE LAKON SHIPS, maybe then they can buy CD.

The Panther Clipper is manufactured by Zorgon Peterson, which itself is a subsidiary of Faulcon DeLacy.

It made me laugh in the same way when I read it! I figured it might be a comedy typo, that got left in by mistake - as in they couldn't decide what to call it before publishing, so chose alliance Interpol as it was crap and funny!!

I think I remember Alliance Interpol from either Elite 2 or FFE "Galnet news" back at 90´s, or then they just infiltrated my mind and caused Matrix style Deja vu.

Well, but that were like over 50 years ago, so things might have changed from previous games.

Well let´s hope so, and this gives us just Panther (no Clipper in the name, should be just fine), massive cargo hauler that takes whole station slot from wide to height and still struggles to fit in (needless to say, lights are red for others when one enters or exits station).

Not only we lack Panther Clipper, we could have also Type 8, good cargo ship that could land at medium pads.

Advantages in both could be huge cargo, very formidable hull/armor, shields and (multiple large turreted) weaponry compared to other similar ships nearest their class, enough to even make experienced pvp player think twice before interdicting it.

Negative sides could be that they would have a turn rate and maneuverability of an elephant, and very risky to land at high G worlds, perhaps low jump range even engineered to max.

Hmmm. OK...

Still OK. Although that's pretty much a T10...

Ah.

Theres not (as far as I'm aware) a "turreted brick" meta in the PVP community for a reason, I'm guessing.

Fingers crossed that Faulcon deLacy swoops in to acquire Lakon instead, ensuring that Lakon remains faction-independent, and finally bringing all three snake-ship manufacturers into one happy family.
