Small Ships are often overlooked

Well even modern warships have highly automated weapon systems, you do not need people manning say Vulcan-Phalanx turret.

LOL, sorry, was drinking a nice cup of hot coffee and I had visions of some goon sitting on a bar stool attached to a Vulcan-Phalanx, with cigar hanging out of his mouth - one hand trying to shield the sun from his eyes, and the other desperately trying to get the blinkin thing to hit an incoming missile doing 950mph using an analogue joystick and finger glued to the trigger...

Admittedly I did spit a little coffee trying to hold back a chuckle!

does anyone else feel like small ships are often, generally, overlooked?

I like them for their agility and speed & ability to dock at outposts. What i'd really like is more small-ship specific content. Maybe missions than needed you to visit an outpost, or even planets where the gravity effectively prohibited large vessels. Something to encourage people to fly them as they're great, but often overlooked by people desperate to fly the "best" ship they can.

How about..... Missions that COME with a ship? - encouraging people to try different models because when they accept that mission, that's what they're given to complete it in.

This would be good for clandestine operations.. super power A wants to hurt super power B but wants Super power C to get blamed so you have to run the mission in a ship that bears the insignia of super power C.

I know, i do have one but prefer the Eagle - the point was trying if all the "you need engineering for CZs" were right ... answer is no, you don't need it, but it makes it easier.
Well yes of course but I doubt I could have been able to kill three Elite T10s in a row with a non engineered Vip 4,while I did it with my engineered one.I like to be on the safe side

I wish I could have half of your flying skills Kate...

Thank you :) but honestly it's just time and stubborn persistence/practice :)

I think being part of an organization like the AXI is good for staying motivated as there is a rank progression system and a (friendly) competitive atmosphere :)

In a row? I see why not, if you can take 1, you can take 2 or 3. it could kill cutters in CZs quite well. I did kill 2 anaconda + 1 FGS at the same time in the Eagle - it was Elite, deadly + dangerous IIRC, and ship 2 & 3 appeared a bit late to the party (multiple assassination missions in the same system, always fun. Did need some kiting after the first kill to seperate them a bit and regain shields, ended with 23% hull - but it was fun, unlike using my corvette in a wing assassination, which is a foregone conclusion - point at ship, ship dies, repeat until all are dead or run away, repair minor hull damage from phasing weapons)

what it needs is a 2nd utility slot :p
Im thinking mainly of the chieftian.. Rip out those 3 compartments put in standard class 5 compartments then using the freed up mass from those military compartments (they are heavier which does translate to more mass) beef up thrusters FSD and probably could allocate some to utility slots as well

Simply because after the first one (if you manage to kill it anyway with non engineered weapons) you'll be left with a derelict ship ,or maybe you are a better driver than me...who knows

I understand the theoretical process/workflow looking at your outfitting (and I guess the video cuts hide the fact a lot of synthing of ammo and repairing hull and modules is taking place inbetween attacks), but what I'm not quite getting is to what extent you can 1) stay undetected (and I might severely underestimate the benefits of running cool, I only really used heat sinks to keep heat low to avoid internal damage) 2) out of range while 3) not losing the Interceptor because they'll wake out eventually (or does this only happen when fighting them planetside?). Cheers.

I fly small ships a lot, mostly the eagle mk II - I just like its looks, its handling, its speed. I don't mind going to CZs in it, but depending on my aim and enemies encountered I might need to synth ammo.

I've also flown non-engineered Viper 3s into CZs, they are tough little buggers and can deal good damage with rails & plasma accelerators.

I'm also quite fond of the Cobra MK IV, either as a lazy all gimballed MC build (lots of DAKKA!) or with all rails (a tad hot at times, but the module reinforcement is there for a reason)

I often use the DBX when I go and help others with the guardian sites, because of its jump range, I also have an Eagle for exploration - of course it has only half the range of the DBX, but 34 LYs is still not bad, and the supercruise agility is great

My gauge for combat builds is usually the NPC Elite Anaconda - if it can't defeat it (in a timely manner), it is not good enough. I do fear that the Hauler build we had floating around our discord these days would probably take to long to kill it to be worth it.
Viper 3 shields are paperweights. Not sure how you would call them tough.

Oh you're here again, are you going to continue your ridicolous crusade against the "Infidel Engineers"? :ROFLMAO:

He might be a broken record but....he's not all that wrong about Engineering imo. It has a combination of every element most gamers can't stand. Grind, randomness of RNG, multiple "travel missions" , collecting mats that have no tangible value - and other busy work that's just a self-serving means to an end.

If the upgrades weren't so freaking game-breaking a LOT of people would skip it entirely. Seriously I just want this cancer over with so I can get back to just playing the game, but I can't make myself stop because the payoff is just too good.

I've kitted out my Mamba with all Multi's - as far as NPC's go it is like a mincing machine on rails... That C4 above your head going boom, boom, boom, boom like a pom-pom gun on a WW2 warship, and the remainder combining to make a noise similar to a very malevolent chainsaw...

It is just how easy it is to stall on a turn that I'm struggling to beat, but had the same with the FDL when I first started to fly one, so it should be a learnable skill!

Between now and Odyssey alpha is my 'learn to fly again' time, I think!
Perhaps some sort of stall warning would be useful.
