The Pilot Will DUMPSTER DIVE for NEW SHIPS! | We need changes. Here's a few.

Just my opinion, but I think if Odyssey was going to have new ships they would have been teased already. Doesn't anyone recall how far in advance we got a look at the Krait mkII before it was released?

Secondly this is just speculation or maybe wishful thinking but considering that Odyssey is largely about planet surfaces I think new SRVs are more likely. However I'm not sure how this would work as the current one has to practically fold up like an accordian to fit in its bay.
Maybe the Mega-SRV (which as we all know will carry 32t of cargo, has a roof-mounted cannon that can take down a Cutter with a single shot, and has a crew of 4) will require a SLF-Sized bay?

I support this idea but only if the slf bay is on the underside of the srv.

Well it's seems Fdev want to add more to this game (nowaday, for some time in the past years I did not thought that)
Currently they are working on Odyssey but otherwise what will stop them from doing it ? Well money for a start. I would say if you want more things added to the game, make your friend buy it. And I tried but for some reason this game won't appeal to most sadly.
I would love to see most of your ideas in the game. I would love to see a lot of new thing in this game actually, the more the better as long as it stick to what we have, because as flawed as it is, I love this game and want more of it.
But beside money, it seems to me it's hard to add variety to it because of what the core game is.

Ok, so watched the first half, but dead tired and about to hit the sack. The rest will have to wait, but doing a TL/DW for others.

For those who haven't watched, its basically some theorycrafting and talk about what he would like to see in ED and what he'd do if he was in charge.

More or less the sort of thing we've all thought about at one time or another.

One core feature is salvaging. Either of whole ships or components. EVAing over, either repairing the ship to the point it can fly, adding it to your fleet, or stripping it down, maybe for a better component.

So far i see nothing wrong with the video per se, although i'm sure we would all have different opinions on where FD should spend their efforts or whether being able to salvage whole ships or components is a good idea.

I did grin when he suggested removing powerplay or integrating with the BGS. Something i've felt for a long time.

There were some other bits and pieces. He doesn't care much about base building but would like to see player driven economy and proper control of systems.

My main criticism i suppose is why this needed its own topic and was presented in a video format instead of spelled out for people to easily digest. YouTube is where you go to hear people share their ideas in video format but on forums its generally better to write things out.

Therefore, @The Pilot - my suggestion to you is to take off your YouTube head and put on your forum head and share your ideas/suggestions in writing. Don't make people watch a video understand what you want to say.

This is a forum. Points are better made in writing, and videos are for showing stuff off. You should probably have gone the open letter route.

If you put your points it writing, I can read them and decide whether to get involved within a couple of seconds. 8 minute YouTube diatribes aren't worth the time. Assuming that's what it was - I didn't check. :)

I'm posting this everywhere, because I think it's legitimately important that Elite players and devs see it.

The things mentioned here are by no means comprehensive, but they are indicative of larger issue.

And if we are "being heard". I'd like to make that easy as possible.

Read the comments below the video too.

I haven't watched the vid yet but will shortly. Judging by the title, the goal is new ships.

From my recollection, Frontier has simply been evasive when asked about this previously. I figure if there were no new ships coming, Frontier could have easily shut speculation down with a definitive 'no'.

I interpret this to be either:

1. There is 1 or more new ships coming but they aren't ready to show us (for marketing reasons or some such).
2. They are working on some new ships but don't know yet whether they'll be ready.

Personally though, given Odyssey's focus on on-foot gameplay, I'd rather we get several types of new SRVs than new ships.

EDIT: Having now watched the video, I agree. I too would love a salvage mechanic whereby I could salvage whole ships to then sell off, or repair and add to my fleet. Or at least salvage modules for selling on (assuming they're not an upgrade of something I already have).

he understands.

and just like that, new characters are born!

And from there, stars can only develop!

Leo would like to know if The Hat has been drinking?

The Hat informs me, The Hat, that The Hat hasn't been drinking as yet, but The Hat also tells me, still The Hat, that The Hat quite fancies being offered a beer by The Leo.

(God it's difficult writing like this when sober...)

I like you am no expert on the youtubes but I would imagine a list of does and donts for tubers is to not insult potential viewers.

Re: the video I downvoted and didn't watch.

Happy tubing.
I like his videos but he seems biased against small ships, I didnt watch this video because it's probably focused on big ships.

What the OP purposes is somewhat possible if Fdev were a bit more creative. I look for HGE's. When I find them, there is usually an abandoned ship there, usually a Sidewinder or a DBX, sometimes an Anaconda or a Krait. They are usually in good condition, some with scorch marks, all unoccupied, but nothing you can do with them. I shot one and ended up with a fine, so I don't know what the purpose is of having these ships in an HGE. I brought in a hatch breaking limpet to see if I can get cargo out, but there is no way to lock on to the hatch as a target. In conclusion, the ships are just litter in the HGE, with no purpose but eye candy.

It would not take much to include a mini-game tow with a tractor beam, or blowing them up for mats, or looting them for cargo. It looks like Fdev originally planned to do something with them, but decided not to.

X3 would let you salvage or claim derelict ships.

It's a nice mechanic.

Methinks the big problem would be balancing it.

Suppose I managed to claim a panther clipper. Assume that sucker is worth two billion credits. A new player could go from low born dirt munching
sidewinder pilot to a nouveau riche aristo in a couple of hours.

Maybe people are just assuming it’s about more ships because of the title but if you watch even 1 minute of the video the title starts making sense.

I’ve only watched 1 minute so far but I paused it to write this comment. So far I absolutely agree with the idea of salvage, and it’s something I‘ve wanted for a long time.

I’d love to be able to find derelicts to raid for pieces of equipment, better than what I have, or even find a whole new ship to repair and use. These types of mechanics are what the engineering system should be all over instead of the boring grind of mat gathering.
