Question on pvp, ships and ganking..

Ive heard people mention that pvp in this game is rock, paper, scissors. Is there a ship/build that is faster/ more maneuverable than the typical gank ship and capable of harassing them?
If you're literally talking about harrassing and not destroying, then any of the already mentioned small ships ought to work, kitted out and engineered properly. Courier, viper 3, eagle, ieagle, maybe DBS, even a hauler.

Sounds very limiting playstyle wise with such a dominant ship
It is, that's why people (except the fdl fanatics) want it brought more in line with others. We need more diversity. You can still have fun with other builds and may have a chance against a mediocre fdl pilot, but just start away from the really good fdl pilots.

It's the most fun ship to fly once you get a little bit the hang of it. I would hate for it's flying characteristics to be nuked. That's the thing that makes it special, even if it's shields or PP would be made smaller the FdL will still be number 1. Take one into the rings and play dodge with the roids, lots of fun even without being shot or shooting at anybody.

Yea, i think they really need to bring the 3sec boost interval to 6 or 8 sec to be more in line with every other ship. Apart from that, the best thing probably is to reduce its shield values and/or increase the heat. Likely don't want to change the hardpoints. I could still see them reducing the maneuverability but itd be cool to get a balanced fdl without having too... maybe reduce the speed by like 7% instead if they don't do anything else.

It is very easy to get a ship that can escape ganking attempts.. you basically need some G3 A rated drives, some shields and good hull for measure. Then just submit to interdiction and immediately hyperspace jump to another system while boosting towards your target. The shields/hull should hold for most medium ships.

Now about harassing gankers? The typical ganker has a PvP dedicated, minimum G3 engineered ship. You would need a dedicated G5 PvP build for that wich some PvP practice as well... which means whenever you are in that ship, you can't do much else in the game. The PvP learning curve in this game is insane.. if you don't want to invest north of 100 hours studying/building/practicing PvP.. forget about it.

I plan to invest more. Love a challenge.

If you just want to survive a gank and escape then most ships if G3 engineered and above with decent shields/hull are capable, even a sidey, as long as you know how to evade of course (there are plenty of posts about that). A typical ganker ship has a lot of dps and has to be fast as well, so that usually means FDL, frag Mamba, frag Krait or similar. They don't usually have a lot of thermal weapons, so a class A shield (or ideally a prismatic) with the reinforced mod is certainly a good idea. If you want to kill a ganker you need a fast and mobile ship with good defences. A frag mamba can only do damage from close range and it probably won't have much therm resist on its shields so beams with TC could be effective, plus a grom missile to stop them jumping away. I have also surprised a few with reverb torps, even elite players. If you get ganked by a wing, just jump away, you may still get one of them if they have a badly engineered ship and you have a fully engineered corvette say, but it's probably not a good idea to stay and fight.
Oh-oh ...so many work: prismatic, grom etc, etc. just to make fun for ganker? :D Black list works faster and 100% guarantee.

Or you can just play solo... I played solo for the first 130 hours or so.. I just enjoyed the game in 'single player mode'.. but then it gets kinda old. And the moment you fight your first 10 gankers you realize the PvE combat was more of a glorified tutorial than the full potential of combat the game has to offer. I am no PvP veteran btw... been into 30 or 40 duels so far. It is a great aspect of the game.. haven't died once yet as escaping a losing fight is so easy in this game (the legal, proper, in-game way)

Lol. Believe me, it's the Imp Eagle will be your weak spot. :p
Ship can't accelerate worth a damn.

Try Achelous 8A though! More fun than Pom :)

Edit; Looked at that build you linked. Dude - that's bad. Skimped distro on an Imp Eagle = straight-line only.
Try this instead and you'll get much better agility and overall be faster: http://s.orbis.zone/b3t-

Trust me, I am not well versed enough in ship building to have built that on my own. I followed this dude's video below. It hits, straight line, 921m/s for a brief second and then falls to a sustained 916m/s. If I hit FAO, straight line, hits a sustained 924m/s, until I lose control cause I can't fly FAO worth a Rat's. And yeah, I was just going for a Dodge Hellcat Redeye, not so much a Corvette C8 on mountain roads. Ha! I'll build a Viper, follow your build. Thanks! ;)

Gankers do not duel. They want to wipe you. If they fail soon and you take upper hand - they will escape in any way - high wake, disconnect, logout etc.
So no point to fight ganker - you will lose or that will be draw. No win strategy for attacked player.

So what? Just because it doesn't end up with his ship blown to pieces it doesn't mean it can't be a fun fight. Most are regular, nice people really.. they will happily chat with you after the fight. In the last CG most I fought didn't escape.. they fought until blow up even when their hull was 10% and my shields were still up. Same thing when I was ganking people at Jameson's crashed cobra and got ganked myself :D . Got my first Corvette kill.. he could've escaped if he wanted I am sure.

Yeah, that build is literally junk. Sorry :)
Imp Eagles accelerate the worst of all small ships except the Cobra mk4. Don't be fooled by the top speed - they do not a good racer make.

That does not look like a gank :D
Gank happens in Deciat, when 1 guy does 20 kills in 3 mins of new players. Or new ships (i.e. just fresh empty ship). And they're proud of it.
What you say is kinda enforced pvp, still ...don't like it. Last time I got interdicted in AX system, waited to be blown...took him a minute maybe :D then added to ignore. I don't really want to bother pvp when my head is busy by AX learning.

I flew by the station and took her out for a spin, been months! Just flew around the station, was heading elsewhere. She's no slouch, handles very well. Just needs a good pilot. My two complaints about this ship... you run out of Boost Juice quickly, and planet side it gets HOT!! Sorry about the video quality, sliced most of the video off and rendered out in Premiere Pro and the color bitrate seems to be off, a little blotchy. I ended up smacking into the side of Drexler, BOOM! Rebuy! Ha!

People like using Imperial Couriers to frustrate gankers. It's fast, maneuverable and has good shields, so escaping is fairly easy. Also has good hardpoints if you choose to mess with them, and the rebuy is forgiving.

Heh, one way to "win" against a ganker is to anti-gank them. I like to take my Viper III that boosts around 800m/s and interdict the gankers as they are lining up to interdict someone. Then I just boost away and laugh.

I'd like to do this myself, but where do you find the gankers lining up to gank someone? I've flown around the places I hear about, Deciat and SD, a few others but maybe I am way off the area? Thanks!

Deciat, Shinrarta, Sol, CG systems, and the systems near the Baby Bubble. Just have to fly around and re-instance yourself occasionally.

What's the Baby Bubble, where new players start I assume? There's an area you can select in the marker selector, called Starter Zone Markers... is this the area? I pick these and they are all locked out.
