Odyssey gameplay worries

Maybe this has been aserwed and I miss it but...

I'm reading news, Q/A about Odyssey and I get the impression that Odyssey is mainly focused on walking and shooting over settelments PVP/PVE. Maybe lot of players will enjoy that but I'm not one of them and for sure there are lot of CMDRs like me...
So I wonder what about rest of the gameplay which is exploration? Ok... there will be new: planet textures and thin atmosphere and I can will leave mine ship to walk arount but what else? In deep space I will leave mine ship and walk kilometers doing what exactly; walk around and admire new views? :)

(in purpouse I did not mention mining because mining gameplay was updated in past; trading well sort of too)

I'm still clinging onto this:
FORGE YOUR OWN PATH
Take on a wide variety of contracts and play your way, from diplomacy and commerce to lethal stealth and all-out combat. Diverse settings, objectives, and NPCs offer endless mission variety and a near infinite amount of content to enjoy.

from the above they make it very clear that there are multiple ways to play, yet going by the current batch of Q&A's you would think it's combat heavy...

What did you expect though, what can't you do in an SRV you can on foot? Driving into and around Thargoid ruins and Guardian sites or scanning lifeforms is the same regardless.

I'm also only looking for two specific things :

  • walking around the Bridge of my Carrier
  • performing Exploration and having something truly interesting to do

My worst-case Scenario :
  • nope, no walking around anywhere except Settlements/Hubs and on the Planet Surface
  • doing the exact same thing (Composition Scanner) we're already doing, just on differently flavored Plants that each come in slightly colorized variations but are effectively the exact same

That'd mean I'll be on foot as rare as I am deploying an SRV... = almost never, since there's hardly ever any reason to.

there's no ship or carrier interiors I'm afraid, as for exploration they manage to put it (almost) centre stage in that video above but didn't give any info on scenarios

I dunno, I'm hoping all this combat focus is to get the game/expansion out there as it's very journo friendly and that there is plenty of expo/salvage/smuggling/trade activities and missions

Yeah, but it looks like one of those Weatherspoons that you always see in British airports

Credits are meaningless anyway so the beer might as well be cheap. If they do a space-‘spoons real ale festival I’ll definitely be the one laid out by the bar in a pool of my own vomit...

EDIT: just realised your airport reference means the price of a pint might make my eyes water but at least it’ll be acceptable to have one before take-off at an ungodly hour of the morning!

One single sentence from FDev would be enough imo: "We are going to add a ton of exciting new Points of Interest for you to explore on foot, while at the same time we have overhauled a number of existing locations."

For example derelict settlements/ruins of human/alien origin that can only be fully explored on foot. Of course it's similar to exploration in a SRV, but so are FPS combat and ship combat: Point weapons at enemy, fire until dead, rinse&repeat.

In some ways FD made a mistake with designing SRV puzzles and explorable ruins in SRVs, as I can;t really see much else they can do. A plant scanned in an SRV is the same as it is on foot.

I hope FD have Thargoid ships to loot, or perhaps small caves set in like surface base landing pads, but it seems that ship has sailed a bit.

Well, in my wildest dreams I hope FDev would link exploration and combat gameplay (as they've linked trading and combat): Every once in a while there is a chance a derelict settlement or ruin isn't empty, but there are dangers lurking in the dark. Close to the bubble it could be criminals, smugglers, pirates, cultists; close to Thargoid space it could be Thargoids, close to Guardian space it could be Guardian AI/Constructs and in deep, deep space it could be unknown hostiles.

You could navigate and explore a ruin/settlement by working your way through and around obstacles (e.g. cutting your way through doors with a plasma torch or working the power generators to restore the power grid etc.). There could be traps/threats like automated defense turrets, unstable enviornment (a ceiling comes crashing down, a floor gives in). There could be loot/salvage/logs waiting as a "reward"...

I mean, there's plenty of stuff you could do with space legs and exploration, that is more than picking/scanning flowers and posing for screenshots

This was my dream for years!
Exploring deep space, being jumped by scavengers or pirates....running away from them damaged and looking for repair material on planets, old abandoned outposts, wrecks and such.
Making exploration dangerous and risky, not some museum walktrough!

FD has done a good job making it clear Odyssey is a FPS with it's own engineer grind for your guns.

This really isn’t hard to figure out. The ratio of gamers who like FPS to gamers who like flight games is probably like 20:1. FD wants ED to make more money than it does, and they know a sizable portion of the sales ED makes are just current CMDRs buying an alt slot, it has little room to expand. So, duct tape on a FPS!

I hope Odyssey is OK, but isn't a notable success. CMDRs will end up a forgotten backwater memory as Odyssey becomes the flagship and all the future development goes to dirtlegs. Fortunately, ED is enjoyable as is, but that would be bitter.
