Don't mind me please, but a lot of us rising a point that ED is, and should stay, a simulation game close to real fealing of being a spaceship commander. Lot of us also compare some behaviours in game to real life problems. So, if some stranger group of men will hook you on the street and propose a good job in Kamchatka or somewhere deep in the South America jungle, will you go with them without thinking?
Apart from that, if they used a nasty, racist or chauvinistic language, that was bad and should be punished. But whole situation looks to me like interesting gameplay.

Although I have a grudging respect for someone to come up with this scam but maybe we really need to look at the way these newbies were 'recruited' and the fact the discord people had to use was full of unpleasantness.

The thing is, ultimately this is a problem with Discord and access to Discord by kids, not ED.
Well even then you'd have to look at the ages and/or intelligence of the players concerned I guess - if someone approached me about this and when I joined the discord I saw it was named after 'one of Hitler's favourite Panzer divisions' as stated in the Polygon piece, I'd just tell them to go spin before bidding my farewell, on the basis that I'd assume they were a bunch of tragic edgelords.

Well, this is an issue because it's one app effecting the playing of people in the game and yep, technically it's outside Fdevs control about the Discord server.
That's the problem, I don't even know what 'Hitler's favorite Panzer Division' was, so it would only have been when I'd seen the content within the discord that the alarm bells would have rung.
Easy peasy, lemon to the squeezy easy lore wise I think to do. Pilots Fed issue a FYI and / or spinny ship tool tip.
