WHY is an A rated KWS TRIPLE the power draw of A shield booster?

Combat used to pay so little that I just accepted combat was for fun and I had to do the occasional evening of mining to make money; thus the KWS wasn't worth the draw limiting my builds.

Now, combat pays enough that I actually make decent money doing it; enough so that I wouldn't bother with the KWS if they cut it's draw in half.

Shhh, don't anyone tell this guy how much power a closed cargo bay door requires... Imagine if my electric garage door required more electricity than my hot water heater, especially while just sitting closed!

Not uncommon for my min-maxed builds to necessitate retracting hardpoints to use the cargo scoop. :ROFLMAO: One could imagine we did have tractor beams with it's draw!

Class 8B sensors, with a range of just 7km, weigh 256 tonnes. I can often see the target (with a pair of a approx 28g mk1 eyeballs), before the sensors do.

Not really on topic, but nearby, is the KWS really useful?

As a little example of the benefits a KWS brings...

It's been 2 hours since my last post in this thread. I've since logged in to the game and this is what my KWS has racked up for me so far...
ED KWS Bounty Vouchers.png

The highlighted Faction is the controlling one for the system, so I'd get that amount anyway.
But the remaining vouchers, including the 4 out of shot at the top list, more than covers my FC costs for the week and that's after 2 casual hours of scooping pirate bits to feed my engineering habit.
If you focus just on kill count you could easily double that amount in 2 hours.

They're well worth using, especially if you slap Fast Scan on them (y)

I understand correctly that you do not do missions on the rewards. Where you get about 4-5 million in 15 minutes.

I wouldn't say that. You grab massacre missions that payout 20+ million and the bounties are just extra. Or the mission pay is extra however you want to look at it, either way you make more than you would without

In addition: imo the extra time it takes to KWS literally everyone actually takes away from the end result because when you're scanning, you could just be killing them and moving on to the next finishing the missions faster. Doing this in a full wing increases it by 4x

That's why you fast scan and bind the KWS to the same button you use for your corrosive MC. By the time the MC has spun up the KWS has finished.

I'm taking as many Massacre & Assassination mission as I can, but I'm taking all the Mats & REP rewards from them which cuts back on the cash rewards a little bit.
The G5 Fast Scan KWS subsidises the cash rewards quite well and takes literally 2 seconds to scan a target. It takes longer than that to arm your weapons.
Bind it to your primary attack and you don't even need to think about it.

If I’m specifically out bounty hunting then I always carry one. It’s free money to get the extra bounties, even if you lose 25% using an Interstellar Factor. Not sure how much extra you get, probably not a lot, but FOMO means one is equipped on my HazRes FDL.

I also like to keep one on other ships for when I’m travelling through lawless systems as well. Nice to see what bounties are around, also nice to get paid in a lawless system for killing the pirates that interdict me.

And it still likely only increases your bounty values by 10-15%, accounting for almost certainly handing the extras in at an Interstellar Factors.

From a recent test I did, I got 1,865,834,496 normal bounties plus 805,496,704 from the KWS, which works out at 43.2%. I'm not sure whether that is typical. I'd need to do another test. I did many tests before and it always worked out at around 30%, but that was before the buff to bounty payouts .

If you farm in Gende, the bulk of the KWS money can be claimed from the main faction in the station where the nearest IF is, so you don't have to pay the 25% IF charge on much of it.

I stopped using a KWS long ago for that very reason and the fact that it slows game play, the scan is sloooow.
There are two options to avoid that. Firstly, you can engineer it for fast scan and put it on your main fire button so that it scans as soon as you open fire. Secondly, without engineering, you can put in on the secondary fire button in all groups and assign it to a button.key/switch that stays on, like the "-" key on the top right of your keyboad with a peg or weight on it. That makes it scan automatically whenever you target and shoot at a ship.

I'm surprised at how many people still claim that the KWS is too slow to be any use. It doesn't change anything. You just shoot all the ships and forget that you have the KWS and still get 43.2% extra. It's money for nothing.

A C-grade one is perfectly adequate and takes less power than an A-grade shield booster, so I'm not sure what OP is on about. An A-grade KWS offers no practical advantage over a C-grade one.
