If we're talking about the slaves, they would have also retained minerals gained through laser mining, you don't lose those when your ship goes pop. They would have most likely unlocked the engineer that. needs you to mine a certain amount, they will have also gained excellent knowledge in mining, something I hasd to learn myself. They also now know how to build a good mining ship, again, something I had to learn myself.

I'm not saying that is a fair exchange for being 'held captive', I am saying they gained something out of the experience though.

That seems quite like your trying to put forward the benefits to a slave for slave labour :)

Yes they are not the same chat system. Assuming the language in both chat system were just as toxic; it does not matter.

We of course are only guessing and the real reasons are not for us to know because privacy

Not a game, but is entertaining. I'm here for the same reasons you are. But there's a faction here who attacks other people for stating something we all learned as kids: slavery is wrong. Deceit and manipulation aren't great stuff either.

I am not telling him what he thinks. Those are his words. People of his faction here state that because "Elite is a game" that anything goes. Look, I TOTALLY get the RP aspect where we can do things in games we can't do in real life and that's great. I'm not judging that at all. I do it too in games and it's quite cathartic and fun.

But there's clearly a line, and this slavery ring clearly crossed it. I'm all for breathing grey areas in stuff, but come on, at some point you are going to have to draw a line on what's acceptable and what's not within a game. Even after FDEV cited a clear-cut case of violating the ToS, this is still a raging debate. Incredible.

What part of my argument is hard to follow? I thought I was being pretty clear. Those defending the slaver can be quite....creative in their approach so there have been tangents, couldn't be avoided.

For my part I was willing to kinda sorta be neutral on FDEV taking action against these guys....until that Pilot interview. Then ALL doubt is erased from hearing the slaver himself explain this situation. As a player, I get a say too in what kind of game I want Elite to be. And I don't want it to be full of scum that tricks players into being slaves. Yeah, it's really that simple.

Nobody forced them to build ship with 2ly range (just READ desriptions, it isn't difficult)
Nobody forced them to ignore fuel scoop/just fuel
Nobody forced them to land.
It was THEIR choice, so it should be THEIR problem, it isn't slavery, if you agree on it, and you have few methods to escape without any consequences.
PS:They still have profit. Now they learned few basic rules of elite. Have know-how about buildign ships (especially "don't ignore FSD and scoop")
Have money (enough to rebuild ship and they still have profit)
If they were far enough they probably have unlocked palin (5k ly from start system)
And they have progress with unlocking selene with this 500t refined materials.

If stranger will say "hey, put your arm into fire" It will be my, and only my fault if I agree on it.

PS:If they foced to do something- I'm in eta carina sector, force me to return to bubble. I'm waiting.
This whole situation is great for creating "space darwin reward".

Regardless of gullible or impressionable their victims are - that kind of behaviour says a great deal about the individual who chooses to engage in it and its hardly surprising that such activity has garnered negative press, which Frontier don't particularly want for their game.

How you personally feel about Frontiers reaction, is frankly irrelevant, becuase it's their party, and they will cry if they want to.

Oh I've never suggested it's a democracy. Ironically, you can find some examples of people thinking they paid £30 or whatever for a game and somehow bought themselves a seat at the table in this thread, rather than their opinion happening to align with FDev's with regard to this specific incident, but they sure as hell aren't from me. I tend to leave that degree of entitlement to others.

I would also note that despite attempts to suggest otherwise, all I've commented on here are two specific historical, documented incidents. I can't be responsible for the hyperbole that's been employed in repeatedly stating an invented 'stance' which I supposedly adopt to any number of wider issues relating to players, trolling, caring about it and whatever other spurious nonsense has been lumped in with it. I don't get to control what other players post. I do however get to control whether I waste my time responding to it and if so, how much of it.

Glad to see the toxic sludge in this thread has put the nail in the coffin of any chance they were getting the ban lifted. If Polygon ever find this thread they can have a whole new splash article with some of the quotes on here.

Oh look, I'm back again.

This conversation, if that's what you can call it, hasn't gotten better since the last time I asked you to behave yourselves. And I've already had to do far more that I would have liked with this thread.

Be civil, don't use derogatory terms to each other, discuss the post and not the poster. Otherwise you'll lose the right to post in this thread.
