A thank you to Frontier and a photographic study of sorts

Hoppryngyl,

I was just wondering do you photograph a lot?
There is another commander on here, called Saitou who's screens stand out from the crowd and he turned out to be a photographer.

Yes, please! I'd like to use the first one as a desktop background...

Ok, will try and add hi-res links to them sometime today.

Hi Iskariot, yes, I have done quite a bit of photography, mostly b&w medium format film work. One of the main things I look forward to in Elite is capturing the fantastic visuals. Frontier have done an exceptional job with the lighting in this game and you really can stumble across some awe inspiring views.

I will certainly check out Saitou's shots, thanks for the heads up on that.

I've included a link to my photography website in my sig, shameless plug I know :p

Your photos are an excellent argument for external views!

I don't care what limitations are put in place, maybe allow external views only if the weapons are not deployed, but I've seen some beautiful areas myself and couldn't do anything from my Cobra.

I gave up trying to take screenshots in the cobra. The dirty smears on the canopy and having to manually change the fov slider to 0 every time I wanted to take a screen became a real pain. Sidewinder is perfect though.

For those who've asked for full res versions, they can be downloaded from here: http://imgur.com/a/IjIP7

Simply hover over the image and click on the cog symbol top right and choose 'download full resolution'.

Below are some screenshots from Eta Cephei:

This one is absolutely stunning. One of the best and most atmospheric I've seen thus far.

Yeah Eta Cephei is wonderful. So enjoyed exploring it, combined with the atmospheric music I get a little shiver of wonder down my spine. Frontier have really blown me away. When I backed the project I really wasn't expecting this level of quality and awesomeness. :) I have to admit where I was wrong; exploring can be magical in this game.

That is the beauty of this game. You can drop by for a frantic quick blast, you can plot strategy playing space entrepreneur, you can just float through space and enjoy the scenery, and dream of stars. :)

Not so much a game as a transcendental experience.
