What's your favourite part of ED?

As it says on the tin...

I don't just mean "Trade, Exploration or Combat", but a bit more specific. Like, do you enjoy looking for First Discoveries? Figuring out lucrative bulk trade routes? Influencing the BGS? PVP? Etc etc...

For me, I realized it's shipbuilding. Figuring out what a particular ship is suited for and how to engineer it. Theorizing and building different weapon combos -- and of course taking them into the ring for extensive testing. ^^
Ofc this requires involvement with many other segments of the game -- mat gathering, meeting Engineers' demands, grinding Guardians etc etc.

Alright, over to you. :)

real galaxy hypergiants and other real galaxy astronomical features to visit.... watching the pleiades from the mountains, and going there after ingame.

second to that - changing NPC behaviour by backgroundsimulation. other like birdwatching, i like watching npc traders and what they trade at stations.

I like to fly ships in space.

Really, that's it. I like first discoveries, finding that lucrative route before anyone else, subverting a system to Sirius control (or whoever), but first and foremost...

I life to fly ships in space.

Being as I tend to mostly play in solo, it has to be a combination of combat zones and community goals. The last community goal was ideal as it incorporated both of the elements I like (y)

Discovering my childhood dream of being an Astronaut would actually be quite restrictive whereas a VR headset and an Elite Dangerous account (or two...or three) means I can go rogue in Space. Allowing me to manipulate markets for my own benefit, strip resources from previously untouched and beautiful planetary rings for my own benefit, make children go hungry for my own benefit and maybe even make Content of other players for my own benefit. That's my favourite part, whatever my childish dreams were Elite satisfies my adult dreams....of being selfish, selfish in Space. 😉

The lore mysteries, all the secrets and all the puzzles etc is what I always go back to....although I do get the urge to go an expedition now and again and just 'explore'

whatever i do, it's always the setting and landscape that blows me away, and what makes me come back for more.

e.g., currently i'm grinding, and grinding hard: powerplay undermining, about 10k merits in 3-4 days. that's a very long string of interdictions. while the task is repetitive, the mere activity of flying in supercruise in that particular system just doesn't really get old: racing through planets in intricate orbits, planet braking, gorgeous views. even the npc can and do surprise you now and then. and the longer you stay there doing seemingly inane stuff (or even nothing), the more funny or gorgeous situations you see and get involved in. that's the real magic of this game, superb sandbox.

such a shame odyssey won't have proper vr support ... but i think that goes into another thread! XD

Exploring in the black with myself and the crew of my fleet carrier. Knowing those people signed up to never see their families again brings a warm fuzzy to the heart.
