Will we ever get a ship kit and more paint for DBS?

The Diamondback scout is my favorite ship and has taken me on quite a few adventures -

A joy to fly and delivers far far more than it would imply by first appearance

It is arguably the best small ship for Thargoid combat and personally I feel it deserves more love from FDEV in the cosmetics department :p

The DBX has a ship skit and more interesting paint options (when available I always use the purple Operator paint)

And wouldnt we all be living in a better world if these options were also available for the lovable underdog DBS too? :D

What we need is a built-in photoshop for ship decoration like exists in the Rebel Galaxy Outlaw game!

Sad that we'll never get that though, because unlike RGO, Frontier wants to make money on lazily designed ship art and also doesn't want to deal with the possibility of naughty ship art.

Solution: Let people submit designs for decals and paintjobs for approval. They can then be sold in the livery store for Arx - give the designer a discount on their own items and 10% of any Arx that are used to buy their designs. Separate custom made items from FDev designs in the livery store.

yes this would be awesome! We could do a Skunk Works paint scheme for all ships - black with white stripes :D

They sell ARXs...sorry ;)

They could sell parts of the tool (brushes, colors, shapes,...) instead of pre-made paint jobs. ARX and custom paint aren't exclusive.
It would require some dev time tho', so most likely not a priority now.

Or at the very least, FD should fix the DBS cockpit bug that has been around for years now.

For people who don't know: a few years back, FD messed up both the DBS and DBX cockpits, somehow managing to combine elements of both cockpits into both cockpits. They fixed the DBX cockpit (which was really messed up, yellow light sources emitting blue light for example) but just completely ignored the DBS cockpit even after multiple bug reports and then submissions into the issue tracker.

You can see the old DBS cockpit in videos like Archon Fury's, and then compare that to newer videos like Kate's. It had a more rugged appearance, with exposed hoses and a solid dark interior on the front beams instead of the bright yellow we have now (which is a feature of the DBX). And different colors on other parts of the cockpit. Overall, the DBX interior is yellow and kind of lame, the DBS interior was cool and fit the whole "silent stealth" thing it has going.

How hard is it to fix this?? It probably takes like 5 minutes to fix and multiple bug reports by me were acknowledged by moderators who said they would pass it along to the devs but of course that went nowhere. And then they switched over to the issue tracker and then well, we all know what that means.

... or ... let the tools be free ... but have people pay to actually create the paintjobs. Amount of ARX for a paintjob depending on the number of custom elements.

I'd still be for an approval system where approved items get added to the store and their creator gets a share of the ARX paid for the paintjobs. It would create incentive for the community to come up with awesome designs.

this is really interesting and now I am curious what the difference is - any chance you could post an image of the old cockpit? :)

You have already a censorship on text/names etc.. wich act in a ridicolous way, imagine what can happen with people's made drawings ;) It won't happen be sure of that.

I kind of understand that, even though it can be bypassed with a bit of creativity (so far, my cutter is still called "Glory Haul") or some "*" here and there.
The point was that there's still a way to sell ARX while allowing custom paint jobs.

In any case, I don't see FDev reviewing each paint job submission. Too much work.

Solution: Don't have FDev employees review paint jobs. Have players apply to become reviewers and pay some minor amount of free Arx for each review. Paintjobs are only approved once a number of reviewers have approved it. For paintjobs where reviewers disagree, review can be necessary and "sloppy" reviewers do not get their Arx and may have their reviewer status revoked depending on severity. Also have people pay some amount of Arx for approved paintjobs, which should lower the amount of paintjobs that are just submitted for giggles.
