Exiting to MENU while in combat/interdicted/ganked is within the rules. Let nobody tell you otherwise.

Who is the jerk by the way?

- the player playing a game by a ruleset which allows other players to get blown up?

- the player who calls a subset of the community jerks?
The ruleset also allows players to be blocked and for players to leave their instance after a short delay - the ability to shoot at other players is not a rule in isolation.

The same ruleset also permits players to affect the game while never encountering a hostile player, if they so choose, through selection of game mode.

Speaking of rules....Robert can I get an explanation of this warning I just got? I can't believe it. To me the word "jerk" carries no more offense than "carebear". But I get punished? I didn't even call anyone here a "jerk" specifically, it was a super general statement.

I feel it's not helpful at all to get a PM warning about something I said, yet there's no example provided as to what triggered the warning.

Would appreciate explanation and clarity, thanks.

Okay so they removed my entire post and the post Chosen quoted and replied to. And for the life of me I'm pouring over the rules the moderator PM'd me and I cannot find a single "objectionable" thing in that post. It cannot be that the WHOLE post was objectionable, but without someone citing for me the specific offending statement, how am I supposed to know where the line is drawn? How can I avoid saying it again if I don't know WHAT was the bad part?

This is messed up guys. You just PM someone a blanket form-letter then close the PM to replies so I can't even ask for clarity? Just...wow.

Personally, I have absolutely nothing against ganking. In fact, I think it livens up the game.

I agree with you to an extent. Forgive me, but I want to give an example from Space Engineers. I recently left Keen's server because it was having issues. That server was PvP, and we had a "villain" who was going around destroying bases and attacking everyone. He was "hated" by many, but when I switched over to a PvE server, I actually found myself missing him and those like him. He offered me a challenge (to avoid being found and destroyed by him) and a goal (to destroy him instead). He was both predictable and yet unpredictable, being a human player vs. a scripted NPC. He added life and adventure to an otherwise "dull" solar system.

HOWEVER... I do have a problem with experienced players using their advantage to "club seals". This guy and others like him get great joy out of destroying starter bases, which only harms the game by driving new players away and removing very cool assets from an otherwise empty world (assets that I personally want to peacefully explore). Taking this back to Elite, I also have a problem with gankers who prey on the weak and drive players into Solo. The whole "git gud" argument is no argument at all, because you can't expect a new player in a T6 going to Deciat to engineer his first FSD to be able to "git gud" enough to take on the wing of gankers who kill him over and over and over again, at least not for a long time. His only option will be to switch to Solo or block these gankers. I don't see how this is a win for anyone except people who are looking to extract salt. It definitely doesn't help the PvP community, especially those of us looking for other PvP challenges than just popping noob players (for example, PvP piracy).

And that's why I advocate blocking - it's the best way I know to remove the "jerk" (in quotes) gankers while preserving more balanced and interesting PvP with players who are interested in that. Of course I recognize everyone has different tolerances for PvP - I've been called all sorts of names for engaging in non-destructive piracy as well as PowerPlay-based combat. Oh, and I've had handfuls of players either menu log or clog on me while I was pirating them, because they didn't want to lose a dozen LTDs to a relatively harmless Dolphin, LOL. 🤷

I’m going to guess: anyone who uses a variation of the excuse -

it is the developers fault that they can’t stop my behaviour”

They tend to be the ones whose enjoyment depends on the unenjoyment of others.

Pretty sure people who call others jerks or carebears get a warning/infraction and the post gets deleted.
Which is pretty ok with me. You'll never see me call a player carebear, even if I oppose his views.
Don't call people names, and be fine.

As a customer I feel very much trolled by this I have to tell you. I would have loved to discuss this and get the clarifty I NEED in private, except for...

Secondly, that email address you just gave me was NOWHERE on the PM I received, so how could I possibly know that contact was my only means of redress?

I hope you take this as feedback and constructive criticism and not me dunking on you moderators. Which I very much appreciate you guys. It's just this system doesn't feel fair, informative, or beneficial as it should be. The user is given zero information about his offense, he's given no way to discuss his offense in private, then he's told he cannot talk about this in public??? I just...mind blown here.

Try reading the forum rules that you agreed to when you joined this forum.

This is your last warning about publicly discussing moderation.

Only if someone (or big enough number of someones) report the post(s), and a moderator happens to agree with the people reporting.

Hi,

It's all listed in the forum rules.

Appealing a moderation action

To appeal a moderation action against you, email community@frontier.co.uk. Harassment and threat emails sent to us will be ignored.

Posting about it on the forums as a thread or reply to a thread is not a valid method to initiate an investigation on whether or not the moderation action performed was correct.

But, as I said, please feel free to email the CM team who will happily review it.

Thanks.

I....I don't even know if I can reply to you since I got a final warning for discussing this. So I guess I'll just say thanks and no more.

Yes logging out through the only available way to log out, through the menu, is allowed. So are disconnections, server crashes, someone tripping over the cable, power outages and Acts of Glod.

Menu logging is perfectly legal in the middle of combat, just considered bad form.
Only in pre-arranged PVP or by the ganker. Theres a whole community that thinks trying to disrupt someones gameplay is bad form especially given the plethora of things you could do or games that are much better suited for the purpose.

Look at it this way, many of us get a slap on the wrists for an infraction of forum rules: It is easy to do and occasionally not entirely clear 'which bit' was the naughty one.

In a positive manner, Mods here are absolute angels in comparison to another forum I used to frequent (sorry Mods) and are actually pretty impartial & very fair.

Don't take it as a slap, just a little nudge for being a little outspoken ;)

As ever, there is the 'law' and the 'correct moral choice'.

The ED law says it is fine to blow up another players ship.

Some argue over the moral choice of using your Gankatron 2000 to blast a shieldless explorer out of the cosmos.

Not sure what ED 'law' says about combat logging but we hear a lot about the moral choice of it.

HI friend.

I don't even know what I can or can't discuss right now so I'm taking out these frustrations on pirates in the Mamba fragboat atm. Cheers!
