Did the recent thread discussing supercruise just disappear?

Not really, I was going through all the DM’s you have sent people, admin rights are amazing, your messages were so rascally in nature, I couldn’t ban you. So engrossed was I, if I hadn’t had the SCA running, I would have missed my stop. Lord love that module.

You're a lovely chap, thanks mate. I hope you didn't get access to my encrypted censor-free section though? The pictures are quite scandalous, with the nudey Braben bobblehead that Leo sent me last week...

I have to ask though Is spending forever in supercruise all that this game has?

Hey, now behave yourself sonny jimlad.

OP, do you mean my thread here?

No, no, it was the one Red Anders mentioned, about spending forever in supercruise.

Probably a game not featuring flying spaceships would be more to their liking. Like, I don't know, Angry Birds?

Funny stuff.

I love flying spaceships but a huge percentage of my time seems to be doing nothing while my ship is in SC, because there's just nothing to do IN SC. And on my ships where I have SC Assist fitted, I'll be tabbed out doing non-game things until I hear either my ship drop out of SC when it arrives, or it gets interdicted by something.

If that's some amazing gameplay or something, well I guess I didn't get the memo. At a certain point the wonder of space just gets mundane and you just want to get to where you're going so you can have fun again.

I agree that there could be more things added to do in SuperCruise, however, a lot of the noise being made about supercruise being lacking is lobbying for microjumps and such nonsense. I'd dearly love it if resources such as Inara, or EDDB were integrated into the game, so I could jump into system A, supercruise in direction of the destination starport then pull up the in-game-inara and check the influence of Faction B or the local prices of commodity C. It could be done, as a sort of alternative interface mode along the lines of the codex / galnet / engineers / powerplay library screen using the data that is available in the servers already. I mean Inara et al rely on players snagging bits of data from their game files and uploading it via EDMC or similar, whereas Frontier already have ALL THE DATA, so there would be no ongoing workload to maintain this feature once they had added the interface(s).

I'd also like i if in ship, on foot game play was added, where I could leave the pilots seat and go elsewhere in the ship to do maintenance / tuneups. So I could for instance:
  • go to the engineroom to check the condition of the magnetic coils emmitters, and change any that were on their way out
    • this would increase powerplant / thruster / FSD output
    • or reduce power consumtion of a module that was out of whack
  • go to the hardpoint maintenance hatches and grease the multicannons to bring their rate of fire back to optimal
  • Sprint to the cockpit when the alarms go to say I'm being interdicted

It’s funny. Elite Dangerous is the only game I play where I actually do other things in the background while I’m playing it (alt-tab, etc). Well.. that’s not true, I also do that with mobile games. Go figure.

They should really just implement one of the cockpit panels to be a browser window overlay. Maybe that’s less work than providing more content or making big changes to supercruise.

Elite is pretty real like that. People look at their phones/the internet whilst flying, I mean, they had to invent laws to stop people doing that whilst driving cars. in the real world, with real cars. It's not a stretch to imagine that some space trucker with light years to travel, might have a device on their lap to look at when travelling.

Hah! Yeah I guess if you’re going to look at it that way then yes, Elite is very realistic.

A game has the ability to detect if it’s tabbed out. They should implement getting fined if system authorities see you alt-tabbed and not paying attention. Add more realism.

That means you're covering huge distances then ?

Are you still levelling up maybe ? I suspect most here don't do that, SC is just the the way to get to where you want to be...

What could be good is a proper way to navigate routes for multi-drops. Whilst you're in SC, you could enter details of how much you're about to unload at the first station, tell it where you aim to go after that, it calculates the weight, the fuel, all that sort of thing. When you get to the station, you dump your load, and your navigation is already sorted for the next stop.
