Most Maneuverable Ship For Combat

no one mentioned the Adder?

Until I recently purchased an Anaconda hull I wasn’t feeling the vibes of many of the medium and large hull, and ended up stripping and selling them again after failing to work out what I wanted them to do. So I downsized to a fightin’ Adder; https://s.orbis.zone/czm7

I’m still nowhere near being good enough to make the most of her agility or weapons, but she’s a blast to fly and to my surprise danced a merry dance around some Low-CZs with a squadron mate recently. The Viduka is my fun ride for when I want to ‘git-gud-fast-n-fixed’.

Meh try any little ship you want, you'll be back in the Corvette in no time.

NPC fire can't be "dodged" in any significant way no matter how good you fly. Also no matter how good you turn, they can turn better or just as good so they can always bring guns to bear on you. Oh and they are also bullet sponges so you'll really start missing the DPS of the 'Vette against high level mobs.

For most things in the HazRez or wherever, this doesn't matter though I guess.

I would agree that the Vulture is probably your best bet. You can just toss the thing around without suffering the wonky drifting or sliding of the FDL and other ships. The Chieftain is also a similar option I'm told, but I haven't personally bought one yet.

Also I''m seeing the iCourier getting little love here, so I'll toss that name into the ring or else Rat Catcher will be very unhappy! :p
yeah fair, but im not planning on replacing the vette, i love it, I just fancy getting good at flying and then potentially giving pvp a go, and a small nippy ship seems like my best bet to improve my flying ability :p

A. Eagle. But it's made of wet toilet paper.
Which makes it more fun IMO, because you can't just go around tanking and soaking damage like most other ships - you actually have to fly like a real pilot to survive :D

Granted if the OP is looking to take down Thargoids or clear Level 7 Pirate Signals, then good piloting won't be enough, but I've successfully held my own in various level RES and even CZs in my Eagle. If there was a squadron of dedicated Eagle pilots, I'd be tempted to join, because a wing of well-engineered Eagles would be a force to be reckoned with, without being so OP as to be silly easy mode.

Big ships for turret-gunnery-frigate vibes, little ships for those squeaky-bum-time proper starfighter feels!

Funnily enough I got my vette for thargoids, was what got me into combat in the first place, i just want to get better at flying, so the eagle sounds great for teaching me hard lessons fast, thank you, and the cheap rebuy also makes this an attractive option for learning trial by fire style

Ah yes, I totally forgot about that - you can't beat the rebuy! I actually kinda enjoy getting ganked in this, because it costs the ganker more to kill me than it costs me to die (the game punishes gankers for killing cheap ships), and I get free Arx too ;)

Golly, all this talk about Eagle combat makes me want to take mine out for a spin. Too bad the bounty hunting CG will likely be over before I have a chance! Funny that the lowly Eagle is the ship tempting me back into ED, LOL.

Lol @ 730 dps.... I am defo trying this soon!

Edit: Not liking your shield setup though... my vulture has biweaves with almost the same raw MJ but half the recharge and recovery times...
what engineering upgrades and experimental did you stick on that? as i've heard the same about bi-weaves (I'm still pretty new to eng thats all, if that comes across as doubt haha)

So you talk about this Space Engineers so much here, I gave it a good looksie.

I don't get it. Looks like a kiddie cartoon game with stolen Minecraft elements.

it looks sick too tbf haha, never been a fan of the vulture aesthetically

Just the usual thermal resist fast charge. Along with 2 Heavy Duty Super Capacitor and 2 Resistance Augmented Force Block Shield Boosters. I think @WeComeInPeace went with A-Grade to get to the same values while still being able to incorporate the Point Defense turret. Not sure what for though. ;)

The Vulture is a dream to fly and do combat in, imo. There's a reason so many people love it.

I had to sell mine because of the droning engine sounds. I don't know if it's just me or my 5.1 surround setup here on my rig, but that grating droning engine sound killed my enjoyment of an otherwise fantastically fun little ship.

The thing about the dps with frags is that it decreases very quickly with distance (square law). I use this build to brawl. I fly very close to the opponent, ram them to a stand still and the engineering of the frags gives a reload time of 0.9 sec, which is very fast for a frag cannon. I also tend to stop my ship when an opponent tries to pass me head on, and then make a quick 180, which in a Vulture against NPCs puts you right on target, ~500 meters away, with the opponent still trying to turn like a whale, giving you a nice flat surface to hit. ALWAYS be close when firing frags, and always try to hit the largest possible surface of the opponent. If you do that, I promise you'll go "WOW !!!", because then the dps is crazy high.

Thank you, combo of both you and wecomeinpeace's ideas and i think I have a saucy build to try here haha

It is epic in VR. The closeness of the canopy makes it feel all the more real, and the ability to look over your shoulder and see behind you (to an extent) really aids in combat. And with the right paint job, it's a beautiful ship!

Mine is equipped with a thermal venting efficient beam (or is it long range... I can't remember) on top that can fire all day, and dual railguns on the bottom, allowing me to hit above my weight. For PvE, that size 1 beam actually does a surprisingly decent job at stripping shields. I sometimes swap out the railguns for seekers depending on my targets and the nearness of the closest resupply depot (usually a friendly carrier). Because of my loadout, I had to be creative with power management - my FSD goes offline when I deploy weapons, so no quick escapes!

that sounds like a fun build to try, and tbh, escaping isnt a priority, im good with learning the hard way so dying is an acceptable possibility :p thank you, i'll give this a go

There is a lot of fun stuff you can try weapon wise on the Vulture, mostly revolving around its unmatched ability to keep the distance close and personal. I have been running a dual Multi-Cannon setup for quite a while for some epic A-10 vibes. ;)
Others like to use it with double Plasma Accelerators, or even APA's.

Keep in mind though that it only really shines with quite some heavy engineering!
