ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous: Odyssey | The Road to Odyssey - Mission Playthrough

It's 2021, GPUs have become much more powerful since 2014. I hope FDev give us more graphic options beside just increasing the resolution. Higher LoD levels and view distance to reduce pop-in and noticing LoD changes etc.
I believe they have a newer version of their proprietary Cobra Engine

Time for the wheel to turn to AMD me thinks Alex
Miners & re-sellers, they pick most. So for current video card you will pay 2x or 3x price. Which makes 1 video = 1.5x of anything else total in pc.
Year ago it was bitcoin top-jump till 20000$ and then it went down so videos settled too. Now, expected worst minimal is about 20000$ this means....video will remain expensive.

So smart companies will keep aiming old cards, like 1050-1060-1070. That what ED do now.

Don't worry, crypto will crash again soon. Right? Please?

note: this will only decrease the amount of cards bought by miners, not scalpers

I really do hope that they're using this Update as an opportunity to do a major overhaul of the ENTIRE mission system. Obviously they will have to retain the underlying Procedural Generation, but there are so many tricks they could use to paper over that fact-like the "Flavour" text that the Community Managers mentioned, & more frequent & organic application of Mission Complications & Mission Follow-ons. The manner in which we discover mission targets on planetary surfaces also needs a significant overhaul too.

Major overhaul one month before alpha? I seriously doubt that.

Not a bad walkthrough for a preview I guess. Seemed to me the mission was too easy to complete for 3 players, I reckon a single guy on his own could have managed it all if he had the correct suit. What I'm wondering is though, what would have happened to the ship if they had left it parked there at the start? The ship's shields appeared to still have full power when they left the outpost and it didn't look like it was under attack. Is that because it was parked a little further out at the end?

No, I meant I hope that Odyssey will include a fundamental reworking of the Mission System-in line with what they were saying about on-foot missions. After all, Odyssey will be bringing with it full-bodied mission givers, so its not beyond reason for them to add a bit more flavour to existing missions by giving them more background & more potential for wrinkles & follow-ons.

Oh, & if its anything like the Horizons Expansions, then players who don't get the Odyssey Expansion can probably look forward to some non-Odyssey exclusive content during this year.

Ah, I see. I misunderstood your post, my bad.

That's another problem - all that "discord" stuffs - I want game to stay in game. And age difference. I don't understand half of chat on CG now :D
Ok well feel free to give us a try if you want. There's no commitment to stay. It's quite relaxed. We are quite a small group and everyone is super friendly. The discord is more for the community side and a bit of fun. But we also use it to organise our group wing sessions and we have several squadron only wing voice channels which makes it even more enjoyable when playing together in game. It's made a lot of difference for me. Anyway pop in and say hi if you want.

Apologies to everyone else... off topic. Sorry 😉

I thought the same.
I expected as the ship was part of the wing that it would have come under fire. How come the ship did not attack the large skimmer right next to it? There should have been a turreted weapon on the ship to open fire on the skimmer, rather than leave it shooting at his wing mates. Covering fire for the foot soldiers. Also would have loved to have seen point defence on the ship, shooting incoming missiles. Needed more explosions / action.

It did look good though. My son and I are both looking forward to it.
He is jealous as I'm a LEP and I will get to try things out at the end of March.

Certainly keeping up with the retro design elements there FDev ! Liked the base look overall inside and out, noticed many changes in rendering, lighting, textures and scale.

Nice interior design, lighting and enviromental effects. Torch light cone on lights out looked good.

Considering that was a military munitions stockade I would have a few words with the base commander regarding security ! The infiltrators might have well been just a group of nuns on an afternoon Sunday stroll ! Now I might be a totally casual gamer but I would certainly ramp up the difficulty. A minimum of two guards per entrance/exit, anti-personnel laser turrets covering choke points, security skimmers passively scanning and escorting unvetted civilians. Multiple well defended reactors and due to the lethality of ship weapons, total base shielding to prevent bombardment and a minimum exclusion zone extending 50km with frequent combat 'air' patrols.

I did notice that the assault ship had multiple PDT defenses so I guess SAM coverage was acceptable !

(Apologies if this was one of those poor factions that has to produce clones from biowaste and animal meat and I will accept it is less expensive to throw them at enemies instead even though it can take awhile clearing up the mess)

Looking forward to full transitions in the future.

I think they went a bit "Hollywood with the 'Getaway ship'. :)

It looked to me as though the ship was not perceived as a criminal by the AI (perhaps because the pilot had broken no laws and thus the AI deemed him and his ship irrelevant).
If that's the case, it needs sorting.

I just pictured a mumbling humanoid clone made of biowaste, waddling towards me just barely held together by a space suit :)
I want those!

Some of those guards sure looked radioactive ! I Imagine the explosive decompression inside buildings could be nasty, in low g especially !

they landed on the landing pad you see in the video. To do so they need to have the permission, so it is obvious that they were permitted to stroll the base. The NPC were triggered only when they set off the alarm.
I think that all the dev talking to make the mission more intriguing was a big mistake.

I'm curious why he just took down the guards Sheilds then moved on to the next target. I assume it has something to do with the guy spazzing out on the stairs. I've noticed all their gameplay videos have conveniently avoided death animations...
