The latest Odyssey Video and DTEA

I do agree that they have not shown us enough.

It's actually a pretty welcome change of style from some previous releases though. Pretty sure I don't remember seeing SLF fighters AT ALL .. until the livestream they ran - while the servers were down - to apply the update! lol

Betas and alphas tend to concentrate on netcode and balance passes as a rule. Even though we as players are a bit short of info still, pretty sure the knee-jerk feedback is pretty useful for devs, who get three weeks headstart on up front concerns.

Yeah, I think it's super important and not a case of FDEV wanting free testers. It's a huge expansion to the game and as Arf stated, they will rely heavily on real world testing during Alpha, because the task is too large for them to accomplish on their own within any realistic time span.

Absolutely. It does cut both ways of course. Alpha is early access and a chance to learn your way around new mechanics without risking your main save but server scale tests likely need calls per second from modems of different speeds etc. You'd MIGHT be able to emulate that with a mega-computer but why bother when you also get feedback on DPS and AI behaviour, from Alpha testers enjoying their early access and - probably taking extra risks with no consequence - are trying to break the game / find it's limits.

How things look in a Stream & how things play are two completely different things & are subjective to each individual.

When I watched the Stream prior to the release of the FSS update......it didn't look good. But upon using it myself IMO it is waay better than the older method for System Exploration using Eyeball Mk1, particularly on Planets.

When the Stream prior to Carrier's release was shown.....it looked Meh! I struggled to think of how I could use the Carrier in my gamestyle, despite not playing ED for months. However once released I bought one & have been playing ED daily again since, visiting part's of the Galaxy I'v not seen before.

The Odyssey Streams so far, again just look Meh! to me, because it's focus is on pewpew only. I'm hoping that once released the rest of the update will give me something to get my teeth into for years to come.

I wonder how the exploration part of Odyssey/Legs will work. It's strange to me that Fdev is focusing so much on FPS aspects of the expansion, when in the past they spent so much time on "ooooh, this looks pretty" exploration aspects of ED. I'm still curious to see more of what Odyssey has in store for exploration and graphics improvements.

And you know d2ea and OA would be all over that.

I honestly don't think they are. We're coming off the back of 2 video releases, one was the Dev Diary, which yes, was about combat nd the latest video which did include combat, but also had lots of other stuff. Graphics, physics, what a base looks like when on foot rather than in a ship/SRV.

They had previously released videos about other things in Odyssey, including exploration.

I guess the point I'm making is, if Beyonce suddenly released 2 heavy metal singles, looking over the body of releases she has had, as a whole, you would not describe her as a heavy metal artist. The last 2 videos released by FD do not summarise (I believe) the entirety of the package to come, they're just the latest in a line of releases.

Beyonce's heavy metal albums are all people are talking about right now. We need a greatest hits release.

Strange decision to paywall the Alpha then.

I'd agree if Frontier didn't charge. Expecting commanders to pay for early access and then do the work that Q and A should do is a bit rich.
Pretty common practice these days besides there's no obligation to take part and if we had to wait for Q&A to squish all the bugs we'd be waiting until 2023!

Alpha and Beta we can do anything without loss. USE IT and report to Frontier so eventually when the game goes Live it gets serious. It you played the game just to see the new toys versus helping Frontier dial in the issues then don't complain when problems show up in the live play version.
I'd love to. So why are they charging me 15$ more to iron out their bugs????? If it was the same price I would have got it. IMO if I'm alpha testing your game i should get a discount not charged more

Has anyone declared DOOM yet?
Many times... Life, as we know it, is ending as ED will now be a poorly rendered COD with the majority of players never owning a spaceship, but able to shoot the eye of a hyperborian mega-gnat out at 6km...

But, in fairness, if one's mindset is against any particular feature it won't be well-received, particularly if the development time could have been allocated to whatever their agenda wished. Otherwise thare have been a smattering of thought-out and balanced comments too. (Naturally, not by me, as one may expect!)

All I know is Im not watching any videos of Odyssey that arent released by Frontier. At this stage its conjecture and for a while it will be Spoilers as Im waiting on console so I will judge Odyssey when it is playable to me and preferably be as 'in the dark' as possible about any aspect of it. So I can learn it and do it for myself.

The brainless logic of hearing the same old snowflake excuse, over and over.
"Everyones so negative, no wonder they dont share" is such a weak and pathetic take.
Criticism is more then warrantied with FDs shotty record of delays and lackluster features.

Many of the players I'm friends with in game haven't logged in for 72 month, just let that think in. However I do believe EDO will bring them back.

Ok, I have let it '"Think in" (I think) ... So, some of your friends haven't played since March 2016 .. Maybe they just don't like the game, I mean, it's not for everyone .. And I would say, as an uneducated guess, many of those friends (if they come back for Odyssey) will be gone after a few months as they don't seem to like the base game.
