Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

They have made the announcement about Turbulent since the start, why not for Firesprite ? Perhaps they just have only 1 or 2 guys from Firesprite working on ToW atm. You don't announce a partnership if you just get 1 guy from another company.

For what I read about Firesprite (I don't know them), I'm not really sure that their knowledge about FPS is better than the FPS guys of CIG. They just have one little known FPS released (The Persistence), so why making a partnership with Firesprite ?
Their main expertise is making VR games on PS. Perhaps, they just get 1 or 2 guys of Firesprite in the workflow of ToW for them to study it in anticipation of the future = adding VR to ToW/SC or porting ToW to console. If they announce this partnership now, it could be only because the real contributions of Firesprite only star know.
I'll repeat the one word...Illfonic

But they know. The money is going into the dev of SC and SQ42. You have a roadmap showing what is worked, you have a lot of dev diaries. You have each year a balance sheet and other legal docs. I don't know a lot of companies giving those sort of info.

Seriously... have you not actually looked at the only company in Chris Robert’s Byzantine network of shell companies that is required, by law, to publish the details of their financial information?

The Roberts Clan has siphoned off, through various completely legal, though utterly unethical, means, nearly 10% of their UK holdings income.

10%.

How much do you think they’re siphoning away when Roberts et. al. aren’t required to publicly declare, in a legally binding document, director remuneration and other sources of income? How many times do you suppose the money changes hands internally, with the Roberts Clan getting a cut of the gross each time? Where do you suppose a used car salesman and a d-list Hollywood actress got the money to purchase mansions, sports cars, and exotic luxury yacht vacations from in the first place?

Well in that case (a stand-alone ToW console launch), backer money wouldn’t have been going into SC & SQ42...

Now I’m sure you’ll argue that ToW benefits SC because it’s a testbed... (even though numerous signs such as the original fast respawn, curtailed maps, and networking specifics point to a silo mode designed for stand-alone consumption ;))

But let’s take a scenario: Imagine ToW is launched as a stand-alone console title, and bombs. It was divorced from PU norms to achieve that launch, because its use case was so distinct. (Fast rounds, fast respawns, skill matchmaking etc). As such it provided very little useful feedback for the PU.

Would you be happy as a backer in that scenario? Would you feel that backer funds had really been used on advancing SC & SQ42 alone?

So ? Making big mistakes learn you how not reproduce them.

if that was true in this case then the whole Wing Commander fiasco where a certain person got sacked coz they were incompetent and lied about the finances and timescales would be the lesson. As would that same persons 'reflections' after where they admitted it was out of control, would have taken many more years and much much more money to complete. And the bit where they said they had learned their lesson....

...until it happened the 2nd time as well....

...so this time the lesson learned was 'We need a source of money for as long as we want with no oversight or ability to make us stick to our promises'

So, if any of you are wondering in the back of your heads "Firesprite? Working on ToW, located in Liverpool, working for a guy in Los Angeles... that's kinda odd, where'd that come from?"

It's an Elms Family connection. Eric Elms specifically, father of Simon and Nick, both of whom work for CIG.

Eric Elms was doing a little business work for Warthog back in the days after CR's stint at Digital Anvil, around the time of the Gizmondo/TigerTelematics acquisition, alongside his kids Simon and Nick. Eric faffed off for a bit after 2005.

But he suddenly reappears in 2017: Working as a business advisor for Firesprite, on The Lost Bear, and The Persistence.

2017, of course, being the time of the US CIG VGDC goes into a contract agreement, along with a loan charge, with Firesprite.

Only thing CIG is focusing on is making more money via the cash shop.
Have they talked about how they intend to monetise ToW? It's gone from "this isn't taking any significant resources away from SC/S42" to being a full-on, multi-year outsourced project which must be burning a large amount of backer money, and they're not going to just drop that on the SC community as a freebie, or because it's a "test bed" for SC mechanics (like Arena Commander and Star Marine, lol). Is it going to be sold as a separate, standalone title?

Because you have info about "large amount of money" burnt into ToW ?
We don't even know how many persons work on it inside and outside of CIG...

Perhaps. Or perhaps not.

You are speculating like the rest of us.

Its about as valid as suspecting CIG are planing on releasing ToW on console.... although, maybe not. CR is on record saying he won't release on console while they have all those nasty quality control restrictions in place. Bad console people, expecting quality products!

And isn't that an issue? CIG have been coy about this topic. Exactly how many people are working on ToW? Sean Tracy made it sound like just a dozen people for a few months.

Recent revelations indicate it might be more than that.

One thing i can say about contractors, they cost more per hour than internal employees. How much backers money has been spent on this "its only meant as a testbed for the PU"?
