Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

(i.e chuck a dead NPC in your cargo bay and the game would be forced to keep your ship spawned)

Any experience of this or seen it in action?
Yeah, also had the experience of my own ship immediately despawning behind me the very second i step outside. Seems there's a timer somewhere and reusing the "same" ship (i.e. not spawned from a spaceport or a station) will lead to it disappearing if there's no one inside.

1 FPS!

DG REACTS to Elite Dangerous: Odyssey

Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tKeX9F1YaU

Has DG tried SC before criticizing Odyssey ? but wait now! he has made many streaming videos about SC :ROFLMAO:

Thats says it all 🤑

I like DG. He's not a blind fanboy (although i think still trusts CIG too much). He also likes some things about ED but has said the mean reasons he doesn't like it is because of the lack of competitiveness (ie: things like modes) and doesn't like what engineering did to the game.

Fair enough positions, although i like modes myself.

He also wasn't aware of a number of caveats that come with the trailer, but that's fair enough, he just watched the trailer and reacted to it based on what he saw, which is how anyone who doesn't follow ED and watch FD's streams would do. Can't expect him to have watched all of FD's streams to know that NPCs were not going to react on the way in, that it was an older build they made the demo on, that they chose a base with lower difficulty AI because they were getting their bottoms kicked when they tried the harder AI.

Ai, physics, network, bugs, delays, marketing tactics, promises vs results... There's soooo many topics any SC fan should better avoid to criticize others games about - even if right - if they want a chance to be taken seriously.

I hate to say it...but his comments were on the money for me. As a representation of Odyssey...pre-alpha footage or not... it wasn't a good one at all. I thought after watching the video for the first time when FDev released it....If that's all Odyssey has to offer, namely a bit of really cheesy, low quality FPS pew on foot, it's not going to do it for me. 😟

...And please, stop with the comparisons with SC, I'm certainly not making any. As a fan of ED...I'm just going on what was shown, even knowing all the caveats...so many possibilities for space legs, so little imagination shown. If I want FPS pew of any sort, there's a gazillion other games already out there that do it pretty good...because that's what they do. CoD Infinite Warfare did the FPS pew thing in space very right...and that's why it's still one of my favourite story driven FPS space games ever.

From FDev, I expected EVA, space salvage, some kind of ship interaction...you know... stuff that anyone developing 'space legs' for a space game with the quality and pedigree of Elite Dangerous should maybe have considered important.

Sorry didn't know that comparison was a sore point

It's not...if you like comparing two games that have very little in common apart from the type of people who play them. I tend not to do the comparison thing between SC and ED...since I've played both quite a lot and like both for completely different reasons ;)

FPS combat in SC is horrendously bad...from what I've seen from Odyssey, it doesn't look much better...as a definitive comparison that I don't really do :)

Ci¬G are trying to recreate some kind of Star Wars Battlefront rehash with the whole Theatres of war thing...to be honest, I'd prefer SW battlefront over both of the poor offerings I've seen from Ci¬G and now FDev...even with the EA lootboxes.

I would have liked to be in that first meeting when they launched the project:

"We're adding on-foot gameplay in the next release"
"Ooohh, space legs!"
"No, we decided to do planet-legs"
*Oh ...."

Anyway - back on-topic - no leaks from ToW other than the intro trailer? I was hoping for all the juicy NDA news by now :) As usual with CiG the intro looked liked a hyped-up version of the Odyssey FPS gameplay, I'm keep to see how it works out in practice.

I can practically guarantee ToW will be bad, of that I'm fairly confident. One positive...if it clears the trolls out of the PU so I can get some peace when I'm mining or running cargo...all the better. I'm not like Da Gaimez...I like my space games a bit quieter these days :)

Just quoting this as a reminder of how much IW passed by criminally underrated as a decent game standing on its own merits, probably just because the "target market" reading the tag "Call of Duty" expected yet another multi pew-pew Modern Warfare with AK-47, a Captain Price and zombie modes . It had quite a great setting and campaign.

Yeah agree, I don't have a problem with DG myself, he's clear that his problem with ED was/is the lack of pvp and the damage engineering etc did to the game he played. He's also clear that other people don't play ED the way he did, and that some players are happy with the direction the game went, and that's fine. I'm sure he'll try it and give it a fair chance.
